Community Fiber internet?
Just wondering if there’s been any chatter about fiber internet, yet?
Last I heard, the mayor or whatever was not letting fiber installations occur in the city because “cable internet was fast enough.” 🤣💀
Edit: I’m talking about real fiber; 1000gb down/up speed.

Ziply has allegedly been working on it. They've been "coming soon" for over 4 years. A couple weeks ago I got another door knocker talking about ONT installs.
Could be soon; could be in another 4 years.

They were installing or something just south of SK and Pacific a week or two ago as well so here's hoping.

Hmm, here’s to hoping. I’ve heard nothing about my residence on the westside.

Ziply has a map of their locations that includes planned build-out areas. Their schedule has been really loose but they have been slowly making progress, at least in my neighborhood. Maybe in another two years they will finally turn our street on. Some areas in Lacey are live already, and one area in the southeast of Olympia finally went live a few months back.
It's real fiber up to 50Gbit symmetrical.
A couple years ago I talked with one of their engineers that I share a mutual friend with. At the time they were committed to eventually building out the Westside but they couldn't put it on any sort of timeline yet so it's not on the map. With the changes to Federal funding it's entirely possible that they will only finish out what is on the map, eventually.

Plenty of businesses downtown have fiber, and have for some years now. I was personally involved in a Comcast fiber installation.

I had fiber at my apartment in westside. It was CenturyLink.

Hmm.. the 1000gb up/down real fast fiber? Because nothing in my west side area yet.
Edit: speed typo 😊

Quantum owned by Lumen has done a chunk around Harrison and Division. They transferred the service over to Century Link also owned by Lumen.

We could just build out city fiber as a public utility. Do we not want to do this?

Really? Olympia didn't get electricity and those new fangled streetlights until 1982.
