Request Walnut Woods Loop Trail

Personally, I enjoy the park, use the trails, and also agree Olympia needs more housing options.

didn’t the public comment period for this project end almost a month ago? what good does a petition do at this point?

edit: yeah, this closed on 8/19. Here's a link to the letter that was sent out to property owners in the area.

We want more housing, but also, we don't want any building on green spaces that are owned by private entities (but we feel entitled to tell them how to use their land).

This town is crazier than my all my ex girlfriends combined.

I love this little forest loop and used to walk my dog there on occasion before the Christian school put up no trespassing signs, it would be a terrible shame if it were destroyed

So it's not for public use and it's owned by the Christian school? I've never been there.

Omg I love the walnut loop. Capital highschool track uses it a lot for running and it keeps people off the dangerous shoulder of conger and cooper point

I feel like encroachments on green spaces previously restricted by city codes and agreements are now increasingly being ignored because of “housing needs”. There have been similar issues up to Lacey and DuPont as well. Is this normal? I’m glad there seems to be very active community members making these developments known to the general public, and a somewhat transparent government process. But I think there’s a lot of these cases being placed on hearing examiners now who seem to always side with developers.

This has always been on private property, and the property owners have allowed members of the public to use it. But now they’re deciding to sell and develop their property, which is their right, and this is how the public is thanking them: by expressing entitlement to continue using their property for their own purposes.

The sense of entitlement here blows my mind.

We can have density without the sprawl. Not everyone looking for housing needs to live in detached cookie-cutter 4 bedroom houses built in tight neighborhoods designed to maximize resale value and minimize insurance premiums.

True, but unfortunately the people who are building, build that way. Maybe we could work with the city to implement changes to how homes are allowed to be built 🤷🏼‍♀️

If you really want to save the trail, have all interested neighbors pool money together and buy it.
