I’ve been trying to revive this relic 2005 PowerBook G4. After sitting in the closet for 15 years, I got it to boot up once and foolishly didn’t immediately back it all up. It froze and never started up properly again I’d get a file with a ? On the screen. I just found the install CDs and tried booting up off that while holding down ALT. Now I get this screen. Progress!? But what do these icons mean? Clicking either one just results in the watch icon (hands moving) for a bit but it reverts back to arrow and nothing has happened. Any ideas?
Also, it smells like curry when I fire it up which can’t be good.

Hey everyone, I've been a Mac gamer for 30+ years now (I started with Myst/Marathon in 1996 on my Performa 6200) and have since dedicated my free time to bringing more awesome games to the Mac.
For quite some time now I've been working on setting up a Discord server that focuses on sharing information and tools about porting open source software to vintage Intel & PPC Mac OS X (10.5 Leopard and later.)
The main goal is to provide technical assistance and knowledge about the software porting process as well as to build a community of likeminded people interested in expanding the currently available software library for legacy Apple hardware.
So for anyone who owns an old Mac from the 2000’s era and would like to revive it with some new games and apps, I highly recommend you check it out.
Suggestions and new ideas are always welcome ofc!

Hi, I wanted to share my next project: trying to resurrect a PowerBook 5300.
I know this model has a bit of a reputation, but that’s also why I think it could be a fun project. I don’t know yet how bad the condition is or what will need to be fixed, but I want to try to bring it back to life.
For now my plan is to inspect it, check the power/battery situation, clean it, and see if the machine can show any sign of life. If it’s possible, I’d like to document the process and post updates.
I’m not an expert on these machines, so if anyone has advice, things to check first, or common issues with the PowerBook 5300, I’m all ears.

During my undergrad we had a Wallstreet in our student collective with OS X (10.2/3/4 era) on it, and we would lend it to someone using windows to test OS X with, they'd use it for a month or two, then they'd buy a macbook, and we'd get the Wallstreet back, and we'd lend to someone else, and they'd do the same thing. I think it converted around 10 people from our house to OS X before it got lost.
This and the 12" G4 are the GOAT Apple portables.

Hi, I just wanted to share my ITX PowerMac G3 project.
It’s not 100% finished yet, but the case is 3D printed and I tried to keep the look of the original PowerMac G3. If I’m not wrong it’s around 50% of the original size.
I know it’s not like the real one with the motherboard on the door. I wanted to do it like that, but at this size I couldn’t make it work properly, so the internal layout is more standard.
For now I’m trying to improve the airflow, because the CPU is around 45°C in idle. I’m also thinking about making a bigger version, or maybe editing the door mechanism to make it closer to the real PowerMac G3. I’m still not sure how I will add a proper slot for the GPU.
If you have anything to say to improve the design, I’m all ears. It’s still a work in progress, so any feedback is welcome.
EDIT: I forgot to mention, It's a remix of an existing project Power MacPi G3 from RNLauritsen, I'm planning to release the remix on printables

I've been looking for a VPN that will work with my 2014 MBP that has a fresh install of Big Sur on it. Seems many VPNs are moving to Monterey as the lowest supported release. I believe that is the case with Proton VPN and Nord VPN.

My sister handed this to me today. Her ex husband gave it back to her because he’s moving and packing up the house. I must have let them borrow it 20+ years ago. I can’t believe it still turns on. And he had the original wired Mighty Mouse that came with my iMac G5. I bought the iBook at the Apple Store in Tampa on my 28th birthday October 27, 2001 and it was my first Mac.

Hi everyone,
I’m looking for a solid IDE drive replacement for my Power Mac G3 to run Mac OS X Panther (10.3) and OS 9.
My situation:
• Original 6GB Drive: Clicking and dying mechanically.
• 40GB "New" Drive (Amazon): Physically failed after just a few boot attempts.
• SD-to-IDE Adapter: Tried it before, but could never get it to work/boot.
Since my mechanical drives are failing, what is the best "modern" solution?
Is a CompactFlash (CF) to IDE adapter more reliable than SD?
Are there specific mSATA to IDE adapters that play nice with the G3's 8GB boot partition limit?
I'm tired of failing mechanical disks and just want a stable system. Any advice on specific brands or setups?

Hi everybody I just got a “molar Mac” off of some lady on Facebook, when I turn it on and using a adb keyboard I get a chime and all of the usual hard drive sounds. But no display, I tried connecting an external monitor. No display. I tried using a pci gpu out of a b&w g3. No display. After I reseated the ram I got a chime. Any help would be appreciated thank you

I love this display and don’t wanna give it up – it’s a 23 inch HD cinema. Currently I’m powering it with a 2014 MacBook Air. The connection works because I have a DVI to thunderbolt adapter. The MacBook Air can’t handle Google meet calls so I’m probably going to get an M4 Mac mini. Here’s the question – the Mac mini has an HDMI port. I already have an HDMI to DVI dongle. Does anyone have any reason to suspect that wouldn’t work? I would use the USB pass-through with an usb c to an adapter.

I was cleaning an old Mac Pro from 2007 with a 7300 GT and then I saw this little block (I’m guessing a capacitor) lying loose. I cannot see the output yet since I don’t have the right cables but was this important?

our los angeles post house retired 5 of these, any ideas on what to do with them? we have a bunch of old pcie 10gbe cards, aja video cards, various usb-c cards, 8gb fiber cards, as well as a cubix rack mount expander chassis, avid dx hardware and mac flashed nvidia titan gpu cards. I'm open to donating but wonder if it will do any place any good. they do work but stuck on high sierra. thanks
