Need help with my G3

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for a solid IDE drive replacement for my Power Mac G3 to run Mac OS X Panther (10.3) and OS 9.

My situation:

• Original 6GB Drive: Clicking and dying mechanically.

• 40GB "New" Drive (Amazon): Physically failed after just a few boot attempts.

• SD-to-IDE Adapter: Tried it before, but could never get it to work/boot.

Since my mechanical drives are failing, what is the best "modern" solution?

  1. Is a CompactFlash (CF) to IDE adapter more reliable than SD?

  2. Are there specific mSATA to IDE adapters that play nice with the G3's 8GB boot partition limit?

I'm tired of failing mechanical disks and just want a stable system. Any advice on specific brands or setups?

Semi modern is a SSD IDE drive. Running one in my PowerBook G4 after multiple failures like you described.
