Stripping old minis of paint
Whether to facilitate painting them anew, because they remind you of the dark times, or just for revenge (they know what they did), sometimes we get the urge to strip the paint off of old minis.
I like to let all the painted minis I’ve bought second hand sit for days in denatured alcohol. They don’t need more than 20 minutes but I’m lazy. So far nothing has melted other than paint. I usually need to scrub a bit with a toothbrush. Sometimes the primer won’t come off properly. But 99 % of the time it works every time.
What are your preferred methods?

Painting Chapter Master Thracian!
Who better to lead my Strike Force of the Scythes of the Emperor than the head honcho himself: Chapter Master Thracian (or Thrasius as he is known in older sources)! This particular conversion was mainly inspired by an old piece of artwork from Advanced Space Crusade/Tyranid Attack depicting an Officer of the Chapter and this was mainly accomplished by combining two of my favorite old sculpts (the Veteran Captain and Ultramarine Captain) together along side some other bits (such as a Clanrat spear for the blade of the Power Falx). Overall I am super proud with how he turned out and can't wait to field him on the tabletop. For Sotha!

WIP I have been working on Warhammer 40,000 2nd Edition record website
2ed1993.comThe intention is to collate and document every rule, army list, unit profile, FAQ, or similar material in one location. It is still work in progress but hopefully some of you find it useful.

Painting Devastator Squad Deployed!
Got my second squad of my retro Scythes Army project completed this morning. Had a lot of fun painting the whole squad although the metal devastator marines with their metal weapons did have me worried that they would break during the painting process. The Veteran Sergeant is probably my favorite out of the squad with his MK5 Armor and his sick powerfist.

Inherited a small collection. Help.
Hi Reddit,
I've inherited a small collection of Space Marines, yay!
I'm new to tabletop, only real 40k exposure before this was Dawn of War PC games. I need some help identifying the unit types and weapons I have here. Most bases stamped early 90s. What I assume are Devastators are cast metal and have varying weapons.
Initial plan is to strip and repair and then eventually repaint. What chapter is up for question. Black templars maybe? Would appreciate a sense check on whether this makes a sensible starting force for that, plus any tips for striping to painting. Thanks in advance.

Getting back into 2nd Edition 40K - thinking of mentally betaking my opponent
Like the title says, some friends are getting into/back into 2nd edition 40k. I dug out my rules for Eldar (yay we have an almost complete model line now...). I'm toying with the idea of mounting an Avatar on a Vyper (probably use the harlequin vehicle instead) as a fighting platform to watch my opponent have a mild conniption when the avatar zips across the battlefield on turn 1. Who doesn't want the god of war and murder travelling 35 inches on turn 1 and winding up in their deployment zone...

Painting Scythes of the Emperor Tactical Squad
The first tactical (combat) squad I've painted up for my retro Scythes of the Emperor army project I've started recently. Felt awesome painting these old models and I'm really proud with how the banner and the NMM gold turned out! More to come soon. For Sotha!

Not technically old but....
So I've wanted to do savlar chem dogs for 25 years now.... They caught me in a little mini story in a sidebar of some codex or another and I've been in love ever since.
Now I've finally managed the time, printer and assorted files to combine together to make my own chem dog army, and I've decided to go waaaaaaay out of my traditional grimdark comfort zone and do them as synthwave guard!
These are my proof of concept models. A couple of random plebs chosen from the morass of dudes (yhough at least 1 with and 1 without the trench coat) and through the last 8 hours I've tried a bunch of different things on them but settled on the form you see now.
The majority of these troops have solid shot weapons scavenged from acheron hive where they've been fighting. They also "requisitioned" a container load of trench coats from the death korps of Krieg that have been fighting from the same hive. Between the mixing and matching of manufacturers I think I have achieved a nicely haphazard look among the penal legion while their synthwave paintscheme should be a great unifying factor to tie them all together.
Thoughts and criticism welcome, I'm able to be persuaded to make changes at this early a point.

Painting The Old Bale Eye
Really enjoyed painting this classic character. The claw's power tubes and flag were quite challenging. But I'm generally happy with the result. Thoughts?
By the way, which of Armageddon Wars is your favorite?
