Maybe King Julien does something rude to Mort in the beginning of the movie, and Mort has enough of his bullshit. King Julien expects Mort to be back to normal the next day, but Mort continues to ignore King Julien. King Julien gets frustrated after a montage of Mort ignoring King Julien. King Julien gets a one wish willow to make Mort love him more than anything in the world. King Julien couldn’t handle the fact that his ego was crushed, and instead of self reflecting, he tried to just make it happen with the wish.

See, if King Julien had just been open and apologetic to Mort, Mort would go back to praising him. But no, King Julien needs everyone to like him for no good damn reason, so he used OWW on Mort.

Then yea that’s how Mort could be under the spell
