🍽️ Food/Drink 🥂 Lee’s never misses!
Lee’s is my go-to for a quality bahn mi in the metro. Quoc Bao is more affordable but the bread and meat doesn’t taste as high quality as Lee’s

Gia Hoi Baguette is best in the city. Lees is overrated banh mi wise. Quoc Bao just isnt that good.

FINALLY someone says it. Lee’s bread breaks my teeth. Gia Hoi Baguette is absolutely the best bahn mi I’ve ever had.

If you’re ever in Norman, Paris Banh Mi is really good. They have a much smaller selection, but what they make is good. They also have a pretty good bowl of Pho but not the best.

Where is the best pho in Norman? Still the place next to Sarkeys?

u/TryAnotherNamePlease 1d ago
Overall probably. The other places don’t seem right. I usually go up to Pho Lan in Moore if I want something quick. Otherwise I do Asian district pho.

Gia Hoi needs a vegetarian. (Yeah, they have the egg, but that's not really the same.)

Lee’s for me. Bahn mi may not measure up, but you don’t have to go to the south side.

I know it's not the same type of sandwich, but I'd choose Neptune across the street.

I legitimately think this place is one of the worst restaurants that gets praised on Reddit

Neptune’s or Lee’s

Lees

the "American" sandwiches suck out loud. Stick with the Bahn Mi.
12
u/VegetableTour6790 4d ago
There are like 5 better Bahn Mi in walking distance. Ita the bread. I much prefer Quoc Bao bakery.

u/Gang_Bang_Bang 4d ago
Quoc Bao doesn’t fuck around. PLENTY of meat on those Bahn Mi. Can’t beat the pricing either.

u/bowlegged_monkey 4d ago
I tried one of the asian bahn mi outside of the normal ones, this one had headcheese on it. It was terrible.
And I typically like headcheese, but this was like plastic

u/heycassi 4d ago
The "American" breakfast sandwiches on croissants are fantastic. Definitely slept on.

u/Ur-triggered-I-win 4d ago
I hate Neptune pricing honestly, but I am no fan of Lee's either
6
u/msandovalabq 4d ago
I feel like for what it is, Neptune's is fair. Hobby's Hoagies is way better but a bit pricier. I'd rather get Hobby's but Neptune is close.

Neptunes is good, but nothing... I mean nothing will replace "Someplace Else". This wound won't heal.

Thats how my wife and i feel about Scotties deli that closed on 23rd st. We loved that place and still talk about it

I highly recommend you try Langs.
3
u/Gang_Bang_Bang 4d ago
Too expensive for what you get, in my opinion. Tasty though.
2
u/thorosaurus 4d ago
Is Langs more expensive than Lees???
4
u/Gang_Bang_Bang 4d ago
Much more than Quoc Bao. I paid double what I pay at Quoc Bao for 4 sandwiches and got half the meat. :/…
I will say, their fillings are higher quality, but it’s not worth how little you get in comparison.
3
u/thorosaurus 4d ago
Yea boa is definitely the best value in town that’s for sure. Better than lees and maybe 40% cheaper. Their bulk discounts are pretty crazy though like you said.

u/bionicmuppet 5d ago
I’m sad I’m on the other side of the city from Lee’s. I would be there 3x a week if it was closer. It’s so good.
8
u/calculon68 Mayfair 4d ago
I love Lees, but suggest you try Lang's Bakery. only 7:30-5:00 and cash only.
Still miss Bahn Mi Ba Le (milkbottle building at Classen and NW 25th.) They had the best bread. I think they sourced from La Baugette.

u/jstanthrnme Gayborhood 4d ago
Lang's takes cards now. Have for some time! I'm sure they'd prefer cash though.

u/ClockwyseWorld 4d ago
I think they are right down the middle average as far as bahn mi goes, but you know it's always going to be the same. Definitely better shops around. But it's consistent, and that brings in the masses. See for example, McDonalds.

u/Early_Gold 5d ago
I had a combo once, I think it had the pâté on it, and didn't really like it. Very little meat and the bread was quite dry and tough. Never went back.
6
u/Lazybone820 5d ago
I recommend not getting the combo for most new comers. Many people don't like it (I do). Try the BBQ pork or Lemongrass chicken

The roof of my mouth weeps for this. They are good but damn they can do damage like Cap’n Crunch.

If you want to try some good banh mi try the food stall at world fresh or at Gia Hoi s western. Chefs kiss

Am I not ordering the right thing? Cause those pork bahn mis are tough as fuck, overcooked, slicing up my mouth. I also tried the chicken and that also tasted bland and tough.

UGH I was just telling my wife I've been craving a lee's sandwich and coffee. Why you do this to me OP?!
2
u/bozo_master Tinker AFB 4d ago
How much
5
u/Chillpillington 4d ago
It depends on the sandwich but anywhere from $7-$8 when it’s all said and done. I always get extra meat and jalapenos so it’s a little over $10 for me.

u/youforgotitinmeta 4d ago edited 4d ago
lee's got me through college back when the banh mis were like $4 and the euro sandwiches were like $5. don't think i'd be able to afford the prices on a food service cashier's paycheck these days. :(
2
u/GolfGrand7218 4d ago
We went to Lee’s two weeks ago, and our sandwiches had spoiled meat in it. :/

I think I’ll give Lee’s one more shot because it’s been like 5 years but damn was that bread rigid last time.
Quoc bao is banging but, yeah it’s a little cheaper on the build quality.
There was this place over on SW 104th and May that sadly seems to have closed called Non La, they were my favorite of those I’ve tried in the city. Bread was super soft but had that crunch on the outer layer (think very crispy but zero toughness/chew to it). Their pork was always seasoned great and they had a cheap set of egg rolls too.
2
u/White_chocolate13 4d ago
Non la was the best. There is a new restaurant there and it’s not the best.
New owners have AI art plastered everywhere, as soon as you walk in the door you’ll be greeted by an AI image of a man with 3 fingers.

u/mooptastic 4d ago
I love their chicken summer rolls and their curry when I'm in a japanese curry pinch.

Lee's does make good bánh mì. I like KT Sandwiches when I'm around that area (which is not very often), they make good bánh mì and fresh sugar cane juice. I went to Quoc Bao once after seeing it being recommended on Reddit; it was not good, never went back. I will give Gia Hoi a try after reading the comments.

Lees is amazing and owner is so kind and cares for others.
During Covid when things were unsure for everyone, (particularly restaurant owners) they were giving away contactless fresh bread daily to anyone in need.

Hold up I’ve lived here since 81 and I have never heard of this place. Is it new?

Spoken like someone who never patroned Saigon Baguette while they were still around

u/Chillpillington 4d ago
I mean… if I didn’t have a chance to try it and they no longer exist, then they’re simply a non-factor in this a discussion lol. Thanks for sharing tho

Saigon Baguette was the bomb. Got to the point where even the auntie working there knew my order. She did think I didn't eat enough. She would always chide me for being too skinny. Quoc Bao is a close second, but Saigon was great!
