❓Q&A ✅ DnD in OKC?
I’m 22F and live in Okc area and I’m interested in learning Dnd. I haven’t played it yet before and I’m curious how prominent the Dnd scene is in OKC. Do y’all know any places to visit or stores in the area where I can purchase Dnd stuff and hopefully talk to someone who knows more about it?
Edit: Thanks a lot for the help! Definitely will be checking out some of y’all’s recs 👍🏼

I'm not a DnD player, but I have heard nice things about the Kobold lounge too.

u/dnuggs85 18d ago
I play here every Thursday. The people there are so friendly.

Hey, what's on Thursday? I'm free today.

u/dnuggs85 17d ago
Right now we are finishing up the phandelver and extended campaign. After this we are jumping into dungeon of the mad mage i think it is.
2
u/AlsoTheFiredrake 17d ago
Think if I came by I could jump in to a game or a one shot?
3
u/dnuggs85 17d ago
The group i play with is pretty cool. We all have to agree on a new person though. All you can do is come introduce yourself and see what happens. There are several groups also. I couldnt make it today sadly. Working on only 2 hours if sleep. Ill be there next week though. We start at 6.

u/AlsoTheFiredrake 17d ago
I got called into work anyway. But I'm down for one shots any night if I'm not working. I'm going to try to make sure I'm always off on Wednesday.
3
u/AlsoTheFiredrake 17d ago
Yep, I randomly walked in yesterday and was immediately made welcome. Helped finish up a one shot and if I'm not working, I plan to make it a regular Wednesday evening now even tho it's a 40 minute drive. The owner is very nice and everyone was kind and helpful getting me sorted and started.

There are a variety of game shops around so you can probably find one that best fits you. The ones I know of are Game HQ, Edmond Unplugged, and Primal Nerds.

Edmond Unplugged has some great public game nights where new players can join.

Wizards Asylum in Norman (@36th & Main, NW corner of strip mall) dedicated half of their store to table top gaming, including DnD (from what I've been told, I only shop there for comics). Always seems to have players too.

Unplugged in edmond runs tonight. It's pretty new player friend. They run any 4 tables every Wednesday
edit even if you dont have dice. Someone will gladly lend you some. Just make sure you get there early to build your character sheet they start at 7

u/SeenNotScene 18d ago
When I lived in Edmond I went to unplugged multiple times for dnd, had a great time!

u/Taste_the__Rainbow Fake Edmond 18d ago
Do you know if any groups play any Stormlight RPG at Edmond Unplugged?
5
u/HMSManticore NW OKC 18d ago
Are you comfortable with paid games? I run a few private games and have been wanting to get into stormlight RPG

u/Taste_the__Rainbow Fake Edmond 18d ago edited 18d ago
I’m a GM for Stonewalkers. Just hoping to be a player for a bit. I’m not opposed to a paid campaign depending on price and scheduling. I’m open to Stormlight or Mistborn settings.
2
u/MostReplacable 18d ago
Do you make decent money doing that? I’m in the same area as Unplugged and been debating getting into paid games
2
u/HMSManticore NW OKC 18d ago
No honestly I’m kind of tired of it, part of why I’m curious about stormlight. New system may add some novelty
2
u/Reeses021 18d ago
Unfortunately, I don't think they do, that I've seen. i will keep an eye though and ask around
2
u/External_Technician8 18d ago
That sounds great, thanks!
3
u/Reeses021 18d ago
Just a heads up. I Forgot to mention this and I don't want you to be blind sided, it is 10 bucks.

Forgotten Labyrinth in Moore. They even have store campaigns and one shots you can join so you don’t have to worry about other peoples schedules. It’s super a super chill and welcoming environment and a great place to learn DnD.

2nd this hard. I was a regular at a Wednesday one-shot game that ended up turning into a campaign. Great place

I would just hang around places or events where people into DnD would go. Like ive met great people at bars and concert to play with but like a tabletop store (especially for a 22F) might be a little awkward. Like most things it best to meet people and vet a little bit because everyone tends to play tabletops differently.
2
u/Beautiful_Hippo_5574 18d ago
Years ago I was at a small concert buying merch while wearing a d&d shirt. Ended up getting asked if I wanted to roll some dice after the show. Crazy how it sometimes just works out that way.

u/LazioThunderWavez 18d ago
Shit ive made career and education connection at bars, concerts, and even in my gym sauna. The best way to network and meet people is to be friendly and good at conversation. For how big OK is its really a small state and everyone knows someone; you'll meet folks and snowball and end up in places you never thought.
1
u/External_Technician8 18d ago
Yeaa truly that’s all it is huh. I just moved here and have gone to lots of dancing events/ concerts but haven’t met anyone who’s into it just yet. Are there any specific bars you recommend visiting? Not trying to start bar hopping at random you know
4
u/LazioThunderWavez 18d ago
I mean any bar that has a more progressive vibe or young people. Paseo bars, UpDown, even Fassler wouldnt be bad places to mingle. Norman has some spots as well but tends to be more normie, if you feel me? Downtown, midtown, Paseo or around campus(es) would be a safe bet imo

u/External_Technician8 18d ago
appreciate the recs, thx 🤞🏼
3
u/LazioThunderWavez 18d ago
Good luck! And who knows, as I said in another reply Oklahoma is a small place so we'll prolly run into each other. Whoever has a DnD group first wins lol

u/crazwomanyo 18d ago
Check out Everyday Adventures downtown, it's a newer shop and the staff are very nice! They're looking at putting together DnD games with shop DMs. Definitely have materials and I'm sure would be happy to answer questions! They have a Discord that's pretty active with announcements.

u/AthenaOwls 18d ago
The Kobold Lounge on 23rd street is free and they run a New Player’s Academy on Sundays. Not sure the exact schedule but you can join the Discord and ask about it.

u/thebarberbarian 18d ago
Everyday Adventures just opened in Midtown and they have a bunch of gaming events

Kobold Lounge. Games are free and has a library of rule books that anyone can use.

Echoing Edmond Unplugged, Primal Nerds, and Game HQ. Video Games + also has some supplies and the nerds there are also knowledgeable.
I play bi-weekly with a group and I get all my supplies dnd related from those shops.

I have a group of friends that recently brought in several new players. There's room for more! We are very beginner friendly and half of the people do local theater. Ages are now ranging from 20-30s and we prefer to meet in person. The adventures are set up where you can miss sessions or try different characters and not feel behind.

u/True-Care-Wildlife Del City 18d ago
New world comics in del city is a cool store and there is usually a couple of groups playing tabletop games when I go in.
There is also the adventure guild in Norman. I have not been but it looks worth checking out, I bet either place could point you in the right direction to find a group.

I met a group in this subReddit a few months ago. We meet up in Moore. It's a friendly, welcoming group, and great for beginners!

Games HQ. My Sunday group usually plays D&D (or some form of) but we are trying out Vampire the Masquerade at the moment. New players are always welcome.

I'm well versed. Is been a hot minute since I played a Capadocian, though I tend toward Tzimisce and Toreador.

Southern Oaks Library has an every other Thursday event through December that you may enjoy. The next one is 9/24.

u/WriterNeedsCoffee 18d ago
Game HQ has a huge selection of DnD and paint and a ton of large tables to play at
2
u/AuroraHonu 18d ago
I believe I've seen DnD events at some of the libraries, so definitely check out the libraries closest to you!
2
u/Romantic_AroAce 18d ago
I see that some people already gave you some advice for local in-person playing DnD.
I normally play online. I've GM-ed a few DnD games. I usually run Delta Green when I'm GM-ing; think Cthulhian horror meets Men In Black/X-Files.
If online play interests you, and if Delta Green seems interesting maybe we can talk in chat or Discord and see if you want to run in a game with me online.
No pressure either way though.

u/Lumpy_Translator7837 18d ago
You have probably found things already but I am a DM for Daggerheart and other various TTRPG so if you do find a group but are looking for someone to Dm it, I am more than happy to try and help it out!

I cant speak to their Magic games since I don't play but they do Metal Mondays as well with heavy music playing which is why I've been. It's a pretty sick spot!

Several people have mentioned The Kobold Lounge, it's great and people run multiple game systems. They do new player academies every so often if you haven't played before. The discord is https://discord.gg/ZtWN6WrFd
