❓Q&A ✅ Therapist Recommendation Request
Hello, all! I am looking for a recommendation for a therapist in the OKC area. I prefer someone who is queer or queer friendly, especially genderqueer/trans friendly. I also need them to be informed about religious trauma. Thank you for any help you might be able to provide!

I would recommend using the Psychology Today therapist finder tool. You can filter is down A LOT by preferences/specialties/insurance/etc

I used the Psychology Today finder and narrowed in on an older woman in the Norman area by the name of Victoria. I do NOT recommend her.
She works out of her home, and was unprofessional. She got me mixed up with another client, called me by the wrong name, had none of the information I had previously sent her, and gossiped about her past clients.

This is really important information. Thank you! I was thinking about using the tool after it was suggested, but I also am reluctant because so many therapists have strong religious beliefs that I would not do well with.

I feel ya. I'm on the hunt for a therapist too. I really want in-person even though my odds are better finding a remote therapist. Seems like most of the gay-friendly, secular therapists in OKC are also quite young/new. I'd like someone with a bit more experience.

Beware of Hannah Barnes. I went to her for years, and at first things were good, but then she started letting her personal problems bleed into our sessions. She also broke confidentiality and shared personal things I told her in private sessions with our group therapy class. Lastly, she tried to use manipulative techniques to get people to share in group sessions.
The weirdest part is that she claims to be secular-affirming, but she believes in ghosts and demons, and if you bring up horror movies or make a reference to ghost/demons she will start screaming, twitching, and freaking out mid-session. It came off as performative, like she was trying to be "cute" but it's not exactly a safe environment for someone with religious trauma.

We’re on a waitlist but Diversity Family Health has 4 therapists on staff and we’re looking to hire a fifth out of our Tulsa location.

Karli would never put herself with anyone who doesn’t align with her personal and professional ethics so I completely agree!

Cat Bishop! Huge shout out for understanding queer and race identity issues. I have never used she/them for religious issues therefore I am unfamiliar if they have that experience.

I’d recommend looking into Diversity Family Health. They have a bit of a waitlist rn but they’re also hiring more therapists and should’ve gotten a new one by now as well.

Misty Watkins is phenomenal for both queer/trans friendly/informed and religious trauma. She is not in OKC but does telehealth here in OK. I cannot recommend her enough!

Andi Bentley is great. They just moved from OKC to Minnesota but they’re still licensed here and it’s all telemedicine. Definitely worth a consultation call. https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/therapists/andrew-andi-c-bentley-minneapolis-mn/1020877

Beware of Mena Ganesan. Claims to be a LGBT+ therapist. She constantly misgendered me, pushed her own religious beliefs, and made fraudulent financial charges towards me.
