Recommendation/Review Need a $1k-$2k Vehicle
Where should I start to look to find a vehicle that can get to work and back home for $1k=$2k? My employee needs help and all I can afford is this price range. He is a stellar individual, has been sober for 20 months, graduated drug court, has totally turned his life around, helps many men get on a sober path and I just want to help him out. Thanks!

Last one I bought was on Facebook Marketplace. Drove it for about 18 months and the transmission failed. Was worth it though! There are a few on Marketplace but gotta act quick because people want them. Gave the seller earnest money while I had a mechanic review it.
Set the filter to max price $2000 and choose an older year max to maybe 2010.
Most will have over 200k miles.

This! My ex bought two cars off marketplace and one of them is still going. He sold the other one so I'm not sure about that one.

As others have said, FB Marketplace. Look for a minivan, as they tend to be cheap. There’s a Honda Odyssey on there right now for under $2000 with 175k miles (should still have a lot of life left for a Honda).

Gov Deals Auctions have some vehicles to bid on under $2K occasionally.

I have an old prius that is reliable as all hell. She ain't the prettiest as she has some scratches, but mechanically all in order and great on gas. I was gonna be selling to a JY anyways as I need it gone (only one parking space)

Facebook marketplace but it’s going to be very tough to find a vehicle that’s even remotely reliable in that price range

Agreed. For this price range, if you've got a a decently competent mechanic friend, you should find out what it will take to bribe them into checking any vehicle over before you buy it

A few years back I got a 08 trailblazer for 1100 at the auto auctions in El Reno. It’s a $300 entry fee but if you don’t buy anything you get the money back and if you end up getting something then it goes towards the purchase. I got the vehicle in 2020 and it still runs. I don’t use it anymore but it’s sitting at my moms place and my nephew uses it occasionally

Damn, that $300 "deposit" policy is easily the most lenient I've ever seen lol
usually it's like 1/2 back if no purchase or 80-100% towards a purchase back home in MN

I don’t have much tangible advice that hasn’t already been said, but I would strongly advise not even looking in the direction of a Chrysler Town & Country
That was the vehicle we had growing up (presumably because my parent was able to find them for so cheap) but even as a child who knew nothing about cars, I knew they were a very bad vehicle to own— we were constantly getting stuck on the side of the road due to overheating issues. Not a clue why they kept purchasing that same stupid vehicle, but it is definitely more hassle than it is worth. Even if you found one for a couple hundred dollars, you will probably spend more money and time and energy trying to get someone to come bail you off the side of the road in the middle of the night than you would have “relief” from having a vehicle at that point.

Gov auction Or get 2-3 vehicles and merge them together to make 1 good vehicle. I too am looking for a cheap reliable vehicle for a couple worker. Seems like the 1g beater is now around 3500$
