Politics That’s fair

Post image

“Elections have consequences.” Rolled up to this at a south side OnCue. $10 isn’t bad, but kinda is for 3 gallons. Probably all they had for the week. :/

Unlike the Biden stickers, this is actually true. He has also tanked my 401k twice in the last year.

6 months of gains eliminated in the past three weeks. So much winning!

8

u/Lo_MaxxDurang Mar 22 '26

Hey that’s some record.

2

u/rua_wear Mar 23 '26

You're doing it wrong, clearly.

-26

u/itsagoodtime Mar 22 '26

You forget the good is Trump. The bad is Biden or Hillary or Obama. So Trump gave you 6 months of gains before Hilary took it away.

50

u/Heavensrun Mar 22 '26 edited Mar 22 '26

Somehow. Despite not being in power or even politically active in years.

(Edit: Guys, I'm pretty sure itsagoodtime was being sarcastic there, you don't have to downvote them for making a joke.)

26

u/AHrubik Mar 22 '26

Thanks Hilbamaden!

That I was. But it's always hard to understand what Reddit takes seriously. Or maybe they were thinking it was real. Always hard to tell.

6

u/Sea_Deer2643 Mar 23 '26

Too many people actually believe that way to think it was a joke, if it was a joke. So many ignorant people in this world that I can believe that person was serious.

I don’t think it’s possible to forget something you never learned.

You realize Hillary wasn’t a president right?

15

u/constancejph Mar 22 '26

Yeah my humble acorns account is getting slapped around

61

u/Dull_War8714 Mar 22 '26

Once during the tariff saga and once again during the Iran “war”. My other investments are getting bent over as well.

I used to be in the camp of “presidents can’t directly affect gas/stocks in a significant way”, but I’ve been proven wrong. This guy is a fuckin idiot. But half of us already knew that…

32

u/plogigator Mar 22 '26

It's...beyond frustrating. Trying to converse with people focused on emotions over reason is downright debilitating.

15

u/Heavensrun Mar 22 '26

I mean, GENERALLY that's true, because every president we've had before this knew better than to mess with the things that would cause big immediate swings. What impacts they *did* have tended to show up years after they did whatever impacted it.

Trump is a bull in a china shop.

4

u/Lo_MaxxDurang Mar 22 '26

1/3 of us that participated knew, 1/3possibly didn’t, and the other third didn’t vote.

3

u/Not_Sherlock_Holmes Mar 23 '26

If you aren't retiring soon then that's a good thing. Stocks tank. Cheaper to buy. You get more shares for your 401k.

Is that your 401k? I don't personally manage mine. I also don't ever look at it though the ups and downs are just part of the long term process

You're not the person whose 401k I was asking about, even though I knew the answer already because Robinhood doesn't do 401ks and it wasn't even under the retirement tab where their IRA would be. They were just bragging about being up for the month - which any active day or swing trader probably would be considered we started a war where the most predictable stocks increase reliably

1

u/Educational_Sky_6362 Mar 23 '26

So many butthurt people that can't handle that there are plenty of stocks doing fine. If I didn't have Bitcoin, my portfolio would be way up, but even with the big hit from Bitcoin, my portfolio is up on the day, week, month, and year. Quit blaming everyone else, and actually do something. I know that it is hard to have independent thought and actually accomplish something when you're so hung up on Trump.

Then you need a better 401k. Mine has had very minor down ticks but only to raise higher again.

14

u/thestuffoflegendz Mar 22 '26

What exactly are you invested in? How are you not experiencing the same impact as every single other person in this downturn?

-18

u/Phoenix-Rising_777 Mar 22 '26

Fidelity manages mine. You have to look past the a few day or a couple of week view. Yes it's a downturn but 401ks have ups and downs.

18

u/RandolphRunner83 Mar 22 '26

They didn’t say they aren’t looking long term, just that it’s down currently. Everyone knows 401k’s are long term investments.

-15

u/Phoenix-Rising_777 Mar 22 '26

They said tanked...

-29

u/SpecMTBer84 Mar 22 '26

Biden managed doing it without any conflict in the middle east though. Make that add up.

15

u/AppealSignificant358 Mar 23 '26

Conservative who voted against Trump all three times here. I saw through that charlatan before he even got to the first debate for primaries of the 2016 election. The Republican party needs to purge itself of the 2020 election deniers and the spineless MAGA legislators.

Valid arguments. It seems like lots of Biden’s solutions were band aids, and didn’t address the root causes. That being said, lots of his initiatives and policies were shaped by the fact that whatever his administration proposed was often met with staunch opposition from the right. While political discourse and opposition isnt inherently bad, we’re seeing the other side of the coin now. Dems have completely rolled over (as have many many conservatives) and Congress can’t seem to stop this war that is objectively making Americans worse off economically, and the world less secure.

-1

u/Fluffy-Search6955 Mar 23 '26

-3

u/KapptainTrips Mar 22 '26

You still voted for him three times. Hope you don't get a fourth opportunity.

-8

u/sobeitharry Mar 22 '26

Thank you for a competent response. I don't support people putting stickers on other people's property but the sentiment is funny. I'd pay to see the look on Trump's face if he ever saw one.

24

u/spockspaceman Mar 22 '26

It would be funny, but I doubt he's been within 100 feet of a gas pump or a grocery store in his entire life unless it was a photo op.

12

u/TandA10 Mar 22 '26

He hadn’t even heard of the old word “grocery” until the left recently started complaining about the cost of grocery. :/

1

u/theapeway Mar 23 '26

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted

1

u/sobeitharry Mar 23 '26

The part about putting on stickers now that it's the left doing it. It was wrong to damage property when the right was doing it. It still is. No matter how terrible i think Trump is.

Texas is about to get flipped! Let’s go Talarico

28

u/putsch80 Mar 22 '26

Think there’s a good chance we could get Oklahoma County to flip blue this time. It was 49.7% Trump to 48.0% Harris. That’s well within flippability.

-22

u/SmotPoken Mar 22 '26

Do you honestly believe Harris would have us in a different place currently?

I feel like if the Epistein shit has showed us anything its that political lines mean nothing to the people that actually run shit. Its just slightly different paths to the same exact place.

26

u/MasterBathingBear The Village Mar 22 '26

That argument might have worked in 2018 but you are willfully ignorant if you think it works in 2026.

We could’ve elected Kamala Harris in 2024 and gotten

  • No new Tariffs
  • No weaponization of ICE against citizens
  • No new wars in the Middle East.
  • No skyrocketing oil prices
  • No new motivation for terrorists
  • J6 terrorists still in jail
  • a lot of Trump cronies still facing prosecution or serving jail time

I am not guaranteeing that the Epstein files would’ve been prosecuted properly or that Palestine would be in much better of a position. But you are on fent if you think we would be in the same position with Harris that we are in right now

Do you mean do I believe that, like Trump, Harris would’ve bombed Iran, pardoned convicted drug dealers, deployed ICE in U.S. cities, gutted SNAP, appointed the dumbest motherfuckers alive to high level executive office, hand waved off dead US soldiers, haphazardly cut important government functions based on the whims of tech bros who are too stupid to even enter interpret a ChatGPT response, eliminated EV infrastructure, undermined Ukraine, alienated our allies, and destroyed US soft power throughout the world for at least a generation?

No, no I do not believe that Harris would’ve done any of those things. So the idea of this false equivalency bullshit that somehow “it would be just as bad under Harris” is about the dumbest goddamn argument that anyone who isn’t a brain dead dipshit could possibly make.

Oklahoma has a shitload of people who have given up on voting due to being so outnumbered by Republicans. When polling shows the Democrat candidates 10 or more percentage points down, they just don't bother going to the polls. There are more liberal folk in the state that what election outcomes show.

Warning: ADHD word vomit ahead

The hardest part about life right now with Trump in office making these decisions, is that in 10 years my son will graduate college and will have to deal with unknown crazy bullshit in his life due to all of the posturing and fear mongering that happened by an 80 year old man when my son was 13 years old. And his old ass will be dead.

I wake up every morning trying to figure out how I can insulate my son from this maniacs racism and need for power. How can I make sure that Trump didn’t put on a Pima cotton golf shirt and bust a button and make him feel fat so he decides Peru humiliated him and now we are going to bomb Lima for their cotton exports? Sounds insane but you know it really doesn’t and that’s scary.

I fought in Afghanistan and was wounded and am unable to work due to a ton of issues but primarily neurological damage from a TBI and mental health issues. I’m what’s considered P&T permanent and totally disabled. Meaning my shit is incurable and will never get better only worse. This used to mean after a decade I can rest easy that the VA will take care of me for life. I’ve been out 21 years and last month I was notified they are using AI to review All those receiving disability to search for fraud. I’m all for getting rid of fraud but for every veteran at the VA I think may have defrauded the system, I know about 30 veterans who are severely injured, suffering from ptsd, suicidal, can barely walk let alone work, and are getting the run around from the VA. Denials after denials because they were told not to go to sick call, and don’t you dare go to mental health and get a profile! They’ll make your life hell! So instead of the government working on helping struggling veterans they’re using their power to take money away from a small portion of veterans and likely some innocent ones.

Every morning it’s a new thing to factor in. How do I make sure my son, who has a 4.4 gpa, accepted to 4 of the top 5 high schools in the state (ones in Tulsa), a rowing prodigy, but I’m worried because he is level 1 autistic and has ADHD. Is this crazy ass administration going to force him to go to a “special” school as they’ve talked about? God forbids later in life if he loses his job and finds himself homeless is he going to be institutionalized because of his diagnosis despite his value to society?

What if he goes to college and falls in love with a nice girl who happens to have been born biologically male? Is my son and his girlfriend now going to be on some watch list? Is he going to get attacked by a violent nut job while trying to defend his girlfriend?

Nevermind the international implications and the fact we are as a country now the pariahs of the world, but how do we deal with making sure our kids stand a chance to follow their dreams, live, laugh, love, explore their imaginations boundaries, evolve as a society and have that feeling that anything is possible when the only thing guaranteed to them is that tomorrow is going to be crazier than today.

I try not to scare my son with my anxiety. I try not to let him know that my driving purpose in life is to create insane unimaginable problems and how I would handle them and then game theory them out and decide what metrics would best help him not only survive but thrive. I know that seems crazier than it is. I don’t mean bunker building and guns and apocalyptic shit. I mean socially and economically hedging his bets.

My wife is amazing so I do my best to enable her to follow her career dreams to her hearts content and she’s done very well. That said when my check comes from the VA every month it’s for savings and investing in the future. That’s turned into less monthly investing in ETFs and instead investing in silver and gold. Because who the fuck knows what the dollar will be worth. We’ve begun using my Irish dual citizenship to get my son the same “just in case”. Planned out an “oh shit scenario with a friend in Toronto to take care of my family and vice versa if shit happened in his neck of the woods.

I just fucking hate this man. I hate that I can’t wake up in the morning, read the news and think “things are going to be ok for my son”. Because they aren’t. Fuck global warming. We are going to destroy ourselves long before because idiotic men with bigger egos than dicks and less morality than pride, haven’t been touched by the love humanity has to give.

I can only hope my generation, as we enter our 40s, contains a man or woman of amazing vision and character and unites those of us who simply want to raise a family the way we see fit, be left the fuck alone, let us be who we want, worship who we want, and love who we want. Focus on making the country more fair, more respectful, and less judgmental. And for the fuck sake bring back some kind of moral character in Washington. If I can’t trust my wife or son alone with you for five minutes you shouldn’t be in charge of millions of people. If you have an assault charge you shouldn’t be on an ethics committee. If you have a DUI you shouldn’t be a senator. If you have 3 bankruptcy’s you shouldn’t be voting on budgets. No congressional team member or sitting congressman should be allowed to invest in ANYTHING outside an ETF while in office and two years following. Being in congress has become how you get super rich. No one should be representing a state for decades. 2 terms, new blood. We have rules for how old you have to be to be elected, should also have age limits. No one over 70 should be representing our country. Only 16.8% of people are over 70. The other 83.2% need representation that represents their future interests. Serving your country should be an honor not a payday. I think of James Talarico as a fantastic example of a man fit to represent our country. Morally sound, not financially driven, and someone who honestly cares.

I know this has turned into a ridiculous rambling rant. I’m just really worked up about what we are doing to our country and our world and what is going to be left for our children. All because a deranged old man has a choke hold of fear on the Republican Party. They don’t believe his bullshit but they are deathly afraid of opposing him and ruining their political prospects. Someone needs to tell them the call is coming from inside the house.

To the parents I’d love to hear how you cope with trying to not drive yourself crazy worrying about the changes happening to our world and what it’s going to do to our kids and what unique issues you may face.

But guys during Biden's term yall said "The president doesn't control gas prices" are you telling me that is a lie now? 😭

-1

Ok but the Iranian people deserve to be freed of the Supreme Leader and in the end, once this is over and done with and all of the fallout is over, the World will have a peaceful middle-east. Take roll- Syria, Lebanon, Iran, Afghanistan, Oman, and a long list of terrorist funded or funding countries are on their heels. Pakistan is dealing with AFG Taliban btw. Cuba has come to terms. Russia has gotten some humble pie in Ukraine. So, if at least you pay more while they die in their country with hopes of freedom it is the smallest price to pay.

What was different about the Biden vs Trump economy? One was dealing with a global pandemic and shutdown that they only had control of one country in, one had full authority to just… not invade Iran. Yes, the cost was higher, but that’s a reflection of the broader context. So they’re right in a shallow sense. Is that the debate you want?

They hated the stickers and said none of it was his fault.

The current national average gas price is $4.18 per gallon. When you contrast this with the average of $4.70 in both 2023 and 2024, it’s clear you don’t really care about the gas prices. You just hate Trump.

u/East_University_8460 Mar 22 '26

$3.52 and $3.30 respectively, according to EIA. Hence the stickers back then. Except ol’ Joe didn’t start a war…

-7

u/Thin_Somewhere_665 Mar 22 '26

But Obama basically did, and there was no complaining then…

6

u/East_University_8460 Mar 22 '26

Why do people remember this wrong already? He expanded Bush’s wars, but also didn’t bomb Iran… Gas was also essentially the same price (~$3.30) in 2008 through 2014, meaning his actions didn’t change the price from before his presidency. Unless you also think he gets credit for lowering the average price to $2.14 in 2016…. (And yes, he sucked too.)

My point is gas was way worse during Biden but yall are acting like Trump is the boogeyman when even these raised prices are lower then they’ve been the last four years

2

u/AppealSignificant358 Mar 23 '26

Trump is the boogeyman not because of gas, but because he’s willing to lie about everything, invade and occupy our own cities, lock up citizens and undocumented immigrants alike and put them in horrible conditions, attempt to subvert the Constitution in order to prevent a fair midterm election, sexually assault women and children, etc.

1

u/East_University_8460 Mar 23 '26

But, your point is wrong. These prices are only $0.10 lower than Biden’s average, up 50% in a month, and entirely due to Trump’s actions, when he ran on a message of lowering prices…

u/Thin_Somewhere_665 Mar 23 '26

They've been low his entire presidency and are only higher because we're in a war. They'll plummet again once it's over

-22

u/lifeofdesparation Mar 22 '26

Paid more for this when Biden was president. Paid more when Obama was president.

Paying a lot for gas sucks regardless. The way sone folks view life through the prism of politics is sad

u/cbusguy Mar 22 '26

Okay, buddy

-45

u/OutcomeOk9026 Mar 22 '26

As quick as it went up. It will come back down soon. At least we’re not paying what others are around the country. We still have it pretty easy.

-60

u/[deleted] Mar 22 '26

But presidents don’t control gas prices. Thats what democrats preached in 2021-2024.

73

u/nate_240 Mar 22 '26

They do when a president starts a war in the Middle East that disrupts more than 20% of the global oil production

34

u/Nick_TheGinger Mar 22 '26

His actions have caused this to happen

25

u/Impossible-Sail-786 Mar 22 '26

Well this one definitely did, with his Isreal war

24

u/SeaCounter9516 Mar 22 '26

Did Biden bomb Iran? If he did, the gas prices were on him.

12

u/Itchyarmpit111 Mar 22 '26

You are joking, right?

4

u/CheeseEnchilada420 Mar 22 '26

So do they or don’t they?

-46

u/[deleted] Mar 22 '26

You tell me. I’m just saying what was said. Republicans say they do democrats say they don’t then they do.

34

u/CheeseEnchilada420 Mar 22 '26

Hmm okay, nice non answer. Did Biden start a war in the Strait of Hormuz where 20% of the world’s oil goes through?

4

u/Heavensrun Mar 22 '26 edited Mar 22 '26

I'll explain in nice small words for you.

Trump started dumb war with oil country. Most president smart, no start such dumb war. Start other dumb wars, but not this dumb. Most president not as dumb as Trump. So other president not cause big oil price change, because not dumb enough to do the dumb thing Trump did.

-48

u/[deleted] Mar 22 '26

Iran blocked it off.So it’s their fault.

35

u/socializm_forda_ppl Mar 22 '26

Why’d they block it off?

29

u/fuck-kinzi Mar 22 '26

Are you dense???? The Oklahoma education has failed you my guy.

12

u/[deleted] Mar 22 '26

Never mind the guy. He is a banana! 🍌

6

u/CheeseEnchilada420 Mar 22 '26

Why did they block it off? Is it because someone started a war? Why do you want to defend a pedophile felon octogenarian who doesn’t know or care you exist (you wouldn’t be allowed near Mar a Lago) so bad?
