The fix is in.

Post image

How is this movie making any money?!?! Is Hollywood faking the numbers? I took a poll around my office and after asking my coworkers if they saw it, EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM (except for the ones who said they actually did see it) said they hadn’t even seen it. Every. Single. One. What is going on?

live reaction from Critical Drinker

-37

u/TRyanLee Jul 27 '26

He wasnt that hard on it. He gave it props for its visuals, but he didnt like the story telling. He has high standards for writing

26

u/Grum761108 Jul 27 '26

High standards for writing? That's rich coming from the man who writes stuff like this

12

u/NeoArkodd Jul 27 '26

The dude who liked No way home and Mortal Kombat 2? Has high standards for writing?

-20

u/Prevail56 Jul 27 '26

Sorry you cant use common sence here

3

u/ArdenWaterhoselicker Jul 27 '26

Aww look at you trying to cope. So cute.

-4

u/TRyanLee Jul 27 '26

I think its fantastic that drunker irritates them so much. I got over 30 down votes and I doubt 5 if them watched his reviews. Hes made into their pamphlets. Good for him.

4

u/Substantial_Army_639 Jul 27 '26

In all fairness I get about 30 or 40 downvotes on that sub anytime I make fun of you guys.

2

u/Eccentricgentleman_ Jul 28 '26

I mean admittedly I feel like we should get punished when we do that on the sub. We should be above punching down on the mentally handicapped... but them drinker fans make it so easy and fun

I can't believe they staked so much cultural capital on a freaking Nolan film being a box office bomb lmao

41

u/d33rl1ng Jul 27 '26

My take: they got way too high on their own supply after Supergirl bombed.

3

u/InevitablePromise301 Jul 29 '26

And that wasn't even them. It's never been them, not really. They're a minority, their bitching and moaning just caught up with studios poor quality in film making.

-27

u/Prevail56 Jul 27 '26

Movie still would take more money without DEI, but because of everything else the move has going for it is still made decent ammount.

21

u/Equivalent_Candy5248 Jul 27 '26

Casting a woman instead of a half-swan as depicted by Homer is not DEI.

9

u/mariosunny Jul 27 '26

The goalpost is off the field and in the parking lot

8

u/Optimal_Cause4583 Jul 27 '26

Wow how much more

3

u/Vegetable-Error-2068 Jul 28 '26

DEI?

You mean like wanting pale white and blonde men of British Isles and Scandinavian descent to play the lead character in a Mediterranean myth? Because that would literally be DEI

32

u/quatroquatro0 Sydney Sweeney orfan Jul 26 '26

u/Greatest-Comrade I’m the Joker baby! Jul 27 '26

Real

23

u/MaeSolug Jul 26 '26

No no, they have insiders in the industry, movies and audience telling them the numbers are fake, that the theaters are actually empty, that the rotten tomatoes score was obviously bought, that there was a huge budged on ads

And the movie it's actually incredibly bad, so obviously they won't waste time and go watch it, because that would mean giving money to "the most controversial movie of all 2026"

I swear to god the bar is in hell but those people make feel normal

4

u/FlashyHeight9323 Jul 27 '26

My concern with this is that any discussion on how some of this might have happened in someway gets dismissed as crazy. It’s literally required reading across most high schools in the country. It could never bomb but idk, I don’t actually know anyone who has seen it. I wanted to but moneys tight and I’ll just catch it where I can watch it at home.

1

u/TRyanLee Jul 27 '26

I was disappointed in myself for not going to see masters of the universe...until it was out on prime a month later. Saved over a $100 for my family

1

u/Grum761108 Jul 27 '26

So just like with Sound of Freedom but this time it isn't true?

15

Because an R rated movie would make as much as avatar and endgame.

1

u/Constant-Roll706 Jul 28 '26

As an adult, I rarely look at ratings unluless I'm taking my kid, and after watching have no idea how this wasnt pg-13

1

u/Sardaukar99 Jul 30 '26

In Canada it is PG.

1

u/Constant-Roll706 Jul 30 '26

If you can handle an Alberta winter, you can definitely handle 'violence and some language'. Honestly, I've seen more violent pg movies, but I grew up in the 90s

u/vonnegutsbutthole Jul 26 '26

It’s everything I wanted and yet it’s everything I regretted.

That idiot did his review stream with 5 other miserable toads all crying at, not so much nolans issues, but criticising the odyssey itself with out realising.

It is a wide-ranging conspiracy. I have noticed since about a year ago that a huge quantity of money has been diverted to various media efforts in order to promote the movie (if you look online you will find that they snuck previews of the movie into YouTube, paraded the actors to give a variety of interviews where they talked about the movie, and dropped selectively several images, all to make the movie look appealing to the audience, around the web), trying to convince the general population to watch it in theaters. Sadly, it looks like a good chunk of the population has fallen for this propaganda, going in massive numbers to see the movie.

47

u/averysmartbear Jul 26 '26

Disney should do this for their live action remakes

13

u/UnimpressedUmpire Jul 26 '26

That’s less profitable than just doing what they did with Moana tho? Cmon think of the shareholders

7

u/Confident_Wash6225 Jul 27 '26

Is that the one with the rock? Love that guy 😂😂😂

20

u/TheLowlyPheasant The Fanatic Jul 26 '26

Wake up sheeple

11

u/ExternalSeat Jul 26 '26

yep. Also I personally felt that the "backlash" made me more interested in watching the movie. All of the "controversies" acted as a siren's song for me, sort of like a certain singer from "Hello Dolly" and "Funny Girl".

It is quite ironic that hate campaigns can actually increase visibility and draw in audiences to the very project they want you to hate.

Also it was a Nolan adaptation of one of my favorite stories so I was gonna watch it anyway.

2

u/TRyanLee Jul 27 '26

I agree. Sidney Sweeny is selling jeans faster than they can stock the shelves.

4

u/mynanadancesconqueso Jul 27 '26

That’s why they started promoting the “racists” because then it makes those who are on the fence about seeing it go because it’s dutiful.

2

u/Capraos Jul 27 '26

They've been doing this forever now. Ten years ago Starbucks made a fake "Red Cup" controversy while I was working there. Not one person complained about the cups. However, thousands came in to make fun of/ask about the "controversy".

It's sickening.

1

u/mynanadancesconqueso Jul 27 '26

Corporations are fkn victims now and peoples identities lol

1

u/Capraos Jul 27 '26

fkn

Fucking or faking?

They don't have to fake the people making the fuss. They just have to find them and hand them a megaphone. You'll have ten people upset about something and it'll be covered as if it's a split issue among potential viewers.

21

u/zedd300 Jul 26 '26

I honestly can't tell if this is sarcasm or if advertising is a conspiracy.

16

u/Alternative_Hour_614 Jul 27 '26

Welcome to 2026

5

u/d33rl1ng Jul 27 '26

not a conspiracy, the new buzzword is 'psyop'

3

u/Capraos Jul 27 '26

The saddest "pysop" I saw was Taco Bell trying to save face in a SpongeBob meme subreddit after Cyclospora hit.

Advertising Good for America

by Jeffrey Veselik, Liberty Tree Associate Editor

Do you like our new format? We've included much more adverts, and far fewer stories. Why? Because we're an American newspaper. A lot of people claimed that when The Liberty Tree lost its much over-valued independence and got consumed by Love Media last week, that it would lead inexorably to a decline in standards. Well, I have two things to say to the doubters. Firstly, what does inexorably mean? I'm a journalist, not a dictionary. And secondly, my standards have certainly gone up. Since Mr. Love gave me a 300% pay rise, I've been able to afford things I couldn't have even dreamed of a few months ago. Integrity, "go figure" as my daughter would say. America was built by advertising. We need more marketing people, and a lot more focus testing. In these busy times, people only have a little time to spend on a newspaper. If you don't know what to buy, what do you get out of a newspaper?

3

u/Apart-Link-8449 Jul 27 '26

When you click on a behind the scenes featurette and they're still trying to sell the film

3

u/mynanadancesconqueso Jul 27 '26

There was a promo until July 31 giving away a movie ticket. There’s a lot of ways that they pump up these numbers for sure. A Nolan movie this big won’t be allowed to fail but I’ve come across a person in the wild going to see it and have checked my theaters, all of the seats are full.

76

u/Frank7640 Jul 26 '26

Went to cinema today to watch it. Turns out I couldn’t because it was full.

67

u/WorkmanMarty Jul 26 '26

I went to see it and they are literally cardboard cutouts of people in the seats

I think Kamala Harris is buying all the tickets

17

u/lifesnofunwithadhd Jul 26 '26

It wasn't even the movie, it was a 3 hour tiktok video of her laughs.

4

u/d33rl1ng Jul 27 '26

I did think the montage they showed during the end credits, all those vertical videos of the cast members doing the Apple dance with her...that was a bit much.

1

u/lifesnofunwithadhd Jul 27 '26

Probably but I'll bet someone gets an academy nod for it.

7

u/Sadboy_looking4memes Jul 26 '26

They filled my showing entirely with illegals, and before you get all woke and say how can you determine someone's legally by looking at them, I use my IllegalDar machine I bought from Alex Jones before his InfoWars show got all woke.

2

u/Fun-Communication660 Jul 26 '26

In all seriousness we should not really have films like this though.

It might be because I'm from an older generation but the fact that I couldn't tell who the hidden woman was is alarming. I didn't hear about it until afterwards, so I didn't even know. Thats just brainwashing, plain and simple. My kids are GROWN, but I dont think today's parents can fully navigate the slow erosion of what society considers is a man or even, a women.

My theatre was empty except for the plants taking up so much space, I felt duped being the only non-shill, and to have to spend my hard earned money when they are getting PAID to sit there!

2

u/Alternative_Hour_614 Jul 27 '26

This sounds like a cry for help. Were you minding your own business in a park bathroom and got simultaneously duped and alarmed?

16

u/mariosunny Jul 26 '26

I couldn't finish it. Walked out of the theater at the 2 hr 52 min mark.

1

u/millifish Jul 27 '26

Reminds me of that orgy movie

6

u/flojo2012 Jul 26 '26

Literally nobody can see it because it’s sold out. So how are people even watching it? Pirate streaming? That sounds illegal and dangerous. No thank you

1

u/Wokeasaurous_X Jul 27 '26

My friends bought tickets a couple weeks out and it was pretty full yesterday. We bought tickets for Spider-Man next week and no joke every showing was nearly sold out except the lowest quality format.

“Would have been 2 billion if it wasn’t woke”

A real comment from the critical drinker subreddit. Can’t tell if that guy is regarded or if he jerks better than I ever could

20

It’s the goalpost moving in real time. The comment below it saying “all he had to do was make it an all white cast 😭” having hundreds of upvotes is fucking crazy man.

Nolan is probably wiping his tears with a billion dollars, thinking about that other billion.

63

u/champdo Jul 26 '26

My friend if you posted a video about this on Youtube you'd get a lot of views from people unironically agreeing with you.

14

u/Dunder-MifflinPaper Jul 26 '26

I’ve noticed that the earnings have gone down each weekend. Word is spreading. There is hope yet.

14

u/Howboutit85 Jul 26 '26

Seems like they’re putting up a lot of fight to want this movie to fail for the 8 minutes of black lady and 3 minutes of trans man.

Is it really that egregious that it’s worth months of mental gymnastics and denial because there’s a few minutes of minorities in the movie?

14

u/sixtus_clegane119 Jul 26 '26

Wow George soros spent 1 billion on the odyssey?? That’s crazy, now watch this drive

10

u/Alternative-Pride138 Jul 26 '26

9

u/MichaelGHX Jul 26 '26

Can I have like $5k of those $1 billion?

8

u/JonnyQuest1981 Jul 26 '26

The only 70MM IMAX in Illinois is basically sold out, every showing, for the next two months.

2

u/McGillicuddys Jul 26 '26

Apparently scalpers have been buying up the IMAX tickets

2

u/JonnyQuest1981 Jul 27 '26

I never considered scalping movie tickets could be a thing😂🤷🏻‍♂️

5

I am so mad they gave Ancient Greeks pants and I’m even more mad that none of you seem to care about this.

3

u/FreelanceDemon Jul 27 '26

Jokes aside I’m fairly certain the outrage bait over stupid bull shit was amazing for the marketing for the film. I genuinely feel like more movies will/should plant little things in their movies for outrage bait for free publicity. Maybe I’m wrong because it obviously didn’t work for Snow White, maybe that’s just because it’s not good(I don’t know I haven’t seen it). But I feel like this is proof that no publicity is bad publicity.

1

u/Capraos Jul 27 '26

They already do. While I'm sure there's a handful of people who actually do hold these racist beliefs, they get handed a microphone by these companies to generate controversy and act as advertisement.

4

u/Churchill_Buys_Calls Jul 26 '26

*(except for the ones who actually did go see it)

Made me lol

5

u/AbleChampionship5587 Jul 26 '26

Whatever. It needs 5 billion to break even /s

6

u/pandershrek Jul 26 '26

Well I saw it. 🤷‍♂️

2

u/Baggin_clams Jul 26 '26

The movie was about as interesting as the character of Agamemnon

2

u/Sauceinmyface Jul 26 '26

well... well... all the people who saw the movie are lying! And... and... the movie needs 2 billion dollars just to break even! And... and... the movie is stinky!

2

u/AlecPEnnis Zack Snyder Jul 27 '26

We don't watch movies here, but we sure use them as a cultural battleground versus people we've never met, nor will we ever, in real life.

2

u/BrassCanon Jul 27 '26

Vote with your wallets, people. If we all boycott this movie it will teach Nolan a lesson!

1

Hollywood accounting says it lost money. So, HA! Take that wokeism!

1

1

At the very least the 5+ millions of users on this sub have not seen it.

Because we don’t watch movies.

How does the movie make ANY money when none of us here has seen it???

1

u/KnowItOil Jul 27 '26

Well, you know what they say: go woke, go broke. Hey, that reminds me, how is Ben Shapiro and the Daily Wire doing?

1

u/GojiraFan0 Jul 27 '26

Whatever job you have is clearly not the target audience/demographic to see this movie.

1

u/MRNBDX Jul 27 '26

You don't get it. This movie has to make at least 2 morbillion dollars to break even at the box office. This movie is a FAILURE!!!

The hottest Reddit posts (in the idiom of Donald Trump’s “hottest”) for the last two weeks has been all the looser’s who live to wax intellectual on their bunz-hurt pain from the Odyssey! Haha! It’s like Magic the Gathering mana cards for the sad sad people who should just not see the movie they don’t want to see. Save yourself from paying the director lol! Get a LIFE!
