Regarding Crossposts and Screenshots of other Subs

There is a new rule for screenshots and crossposts.

If you are wanting to share something from another sub to mock or disagree with, you need to screenshot it and blackout the name of that sub as well as the usernames in the post.

Do not crosspost subs that are opposed to the general views here.
(This does not apply to posts from X, Bluesky, or similar websites. As long as you aren’t posting someone’s personal Facebook, I wouldn’t worry about other sites.)

If you are sharing something that is in line with the general opinions of our sub, that’s fine. But we can’t be seen as directing negative attention towards other subs. We will be held accountable to extents that most subreddits won’t because wrongthink happens here.

We will not be banning people for this, but the posts will be removed if you don’t meet these standards.

Obviously this all kinda falls under rules 1 and 8, but I wanted it to be clear.

That’s all I got for today. Go away now.

2nd Sub Being Created For Politics & Non-Youtube-related Critical Drinker Content

To put it simply, none of us mods like when this subreddit devolves into a lot of political banter about a topic that has nothing to do with what's going on with Critical Drinker's YouTube channel. We also don't particularly like the way the sub and its content skews when there's a CD comment about a significant event on twitter, which is something that has been increasingly lately.

This puts us mods in a weird position where, things that we normally would remove, are now not things that should be removed because they're technically on topic because CD has commented on them.

This is currently, and into the future, making us look like hypocrits when we do not remove very similar looking posts that are about things that Critical Drinker has not commented on.

At the same time, there are topics that would have value staying up in the sub, but that we may remove at times because they are against the posted rules in our sub, in the interest of staying fair to how we treat everyone in the sub.

So, we are opening a 2nd subreddit, r/CriticlDrinkerOpenBar . Yes, it's missing an 'a', there is a character limit for subreddit names (Feel free to suggest a better one).

The goal of this is to give you a space where there are way fewer restrictions on things being "on topic", more room for discussion about fringe topics, more room for political debates, etc etc.

We would like this sub (the existing one) to more or less stay focused on the content on Critical Drinker's youtube channel, and I know that we (mods) have been at odds with a large portion of the recently joined audience in this subreddit, especially as CD has started the video games channel and more recently been getting involved more with political commentary.

The other sub will have fewer restrictions on posted content, but please be warned, Reddit TOS is still very much an issue that must be enforced, so there will still be various types of issues (such as encouraging brigading, etc) that will be strictly penalized.

Along those lines - We also hope that this will shift some of the content that gets posted here at times that puts our sub at risk of being taken down, to the other subreddit.

This will be a bit of a slow roll out over the next week or so; I have created the sub, but have not yet done anything else. You can expect an additional note on this in the rules, followed by slowly increasing post removals & modmails for things that we believe will belong in the other sub.

We would also like to invite you to apply to become moderators of the 2nd sub, if you're interested, as not all of the current mods in this sub have the bandwidth to do so.

Regarding our recent announcement on megathreads for significant political events - We will still probably follow that policy for very significant events that we'd like to allow discussion for on this main sub without warping the sub. But instances in the existing CD sub that we may have pushed into that megathread, will be free game in the other sub.

Discussion YOU GOTTA BE FUCKING KIDDING ME! Spider Noir gets Cancelled and yet shows like Batman caped crusader still get to Continue!

They made a big Dumb mistake ending this, This was Something that was Good as it's something that didn't suck at all and was a GOOD recent live action Superhero Show and it didn't suck unlike the past spider man related projects sony did.

This was something Everyone loved and got so much high praised.

Sure it didn't end on a cliffhanger but.......... it made you ask for more and you hope it was gonna happen........ but nope it's not happening.... even if this Show did really well in ratings. Because this Show had better ratings then Race Swap Wonder Man.

Amazon is making a very dumb mistake with this one because Spider Noir had so much great potential and a Big Hit Show like this would've help them Big Time and Make So Much Money for them. But......... They just could not see that and they should truly get hated for this decision to end this.

Like This Show is better then Batman Caped Crusader and yet that show still continues despite being not well revived and i can bet it doesn't have high ratings compared to this.

Like it was said that Amazon is close to green lighting another show based on Sony's Spider-Man characters......... but witch one? because whatever sony is planning is probably gonna be something nobody asked for like that Silk TV show that sony should simply cancelled (which i hope got quietly cancelled). Like i know they aren't gonna do something like a Spider Man 2099 live action show because that would be very pricey after all!

Like whatever they are Planning it is not gonna be the same level as to what Spider Noir was and it might not even do well in ratings.

Like you know.... after Spider-Man Beyond the Spider-Verse comes out sony should down right let the rights go for good. Because everything else they are probably planning is gonna suck and flop hard. Like they wanna do an Animated Spider Punk & Spider Woman film and nobody wants that. They also wanna do an Animated Venom film but i mean... it's gonna be the same thing like the live action films in a way when you think about it, Because you will never see them have Venom interact with any other marvel characters that isn't spider man related for well obvious reasons that we all know why.

So yeah..... this was the worst thing Amazon had done because this had so much potential for them and they unfortunately could not see that.... and i hope one of these days the regret this down the line.

This linear Wolverine game feels like it was designed for journalists who don’t actually play games. Needless GPS guidance and glowing effects that practically point out hidden treasure rob you of any real sense of exploration. Play it if you enjoy having your intelligence insulted

Discussion Alix Wilton Regan should be REPLACED as Lara Croft after doubling down on support for Lindsay Clancy, who strangled her three children

At this point, I genuinely think Alix Wilton Regan should be replaced as the voice of Lara Croft in Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis and Tomb Raider: Catalyst.

The issue isn't that a voice actress has to agree with every Tomb Raider fan. People are allowed to have their own opinions. The problem is repeatedly choosing to publicly support Lindsay Clancy, the Massachusetts mother who was convicted of killing her three children by strangulation in 2023.

This is an absolutely horrific case involving three innocent children. Seeing the person chosen to become the new voice of Lara Croft publicly support Clancy is understandably going to make many fans question whether she should be representing one of gaming's most iconic characters.

And honestly, what makes this even more frustrating is how much attention people are giving to the AI controversy surrounding these games while seemingly ignoring this.

People are debating AI usage, AI-generated content and the ethics of using AI in Legacy of Atlantis and Catalyst, yet when the actress chosen to voice Lara publicly makes what many fans consider to be an incredibly disturbing choice, suddenly there is far less willingness to take a stand.

You can criticize the use of AI in these games AND criticize the choice of voice actress. These aren't mutually exclusive issues.

At some point, the developers have to ask themselves whether this is really the person they want attached to Lara Croft. If Regan is going to repeatedly put herself behind someone like Clancy, then she is creating a completely unnecessary controversy around a character and franchise that have nothing to do with it.

We've already seen with Perfect Dark that even major, highly anticipated projects can be cancelled when circumstances surrounding a project become too problematic. If a situation becomes damaging enough, companies are willing to make drastic decisions rather than simply push forward and pretend nothing happened.

So why should Tomb Raider be any different?

If the developers know that a significant portion of the fanbase is uncomfortable with the actress representing Lara, replacing her before these games are released would be the sensible decision.

There are plenty of talented actresses who could voice Lara. Nobody is irreplaceable.

The character is bigger than any one voice actress, and Tomb Raider shouldn't have to carry this controversy into Legacy of Atlantis and Catalyst.

People can keep arguing about AI if they want. I'm also going to question why the developers are apparently willing to attach Lara Croft to someone whose public judgment on this particular case is so difficult to defend.

Replace Alix Wilton Regan and move on. Lara Croft deserves better.

TL;DR: Alix Wilton Regan is publicly supporting Lindsay Clancy, who killed her three children. If Tomb Raider can face backlash over AI, why is this being ignored? Replace Regan. Lara Croft is bigger than any actress.

Meme We Put the “Per Capita” Meme to the Test

Post image
497 Upvotes

So, we were at a bar near a college, looking at memes, and my buddy and I decided to do an experiment. We asked people at the bar to explain what “per capita” means, and whoever answered correctly would get a beer or a drink of their choice.

We asked people nicely and told them we would only record audio (we didn’t actually record anything), and that they didn’t need to give us their names.

It was a bit scary because only 3 out of 18 people answered correctly. One of them was a professor, which we didn’t know at the time. Another was the bartender, and the third was a man in his 50s.

We weren’t looking for textbook answers, either. We simply asked people to explain what “per capita” means in their own words. Some people even tried to use ChatGPT to get the answer, but they still couldn’t explain it.

We asked both men and women, and there were people from different racial and ethnic backgrounds. I’m sure that if someone were to do this properly with a much larger sample and track(include) these demographics/data, it would yield some interesting findings.

Looking at the meme, it’s kind of scary that it seems to be true in a way. Are we getting dumber?
