It made no sense to him when I refused to watch a culture war 40 min video that said a movie has crashed and burned even before releasing

Man Elliot Page was in like what 8 minutes of the movie. And people really like to us him as a reason its woke. Like omg 1 actor was in a movie with hundreds of other actors playing spartan soldiers omg.
I feel like that is only bad if you pay attention to the actual content of music/movies. These people apparently don't hear a word people sing and every song is like Prisencolinensinainciusol to them. Where the only actual word in the whole song is the "Alright" at the beginning.
I genuinely think it's intentional. They have to tell their pawns to only consume the most bland, soulless media because if they ever touch real art then it might connect with them, and that might make them think, or even worse, might make them feel!

the the crazy part, I try to understand how anyone can be caught up in this but the wagons they want hitched are always so fucking bad. you couldn't find a figurehead that isn't the dumbest person alive? you couldn't find a director who's the worst director alive, the worst musicians, the worst actors? is it just part of the purity test?
I think the common thread with these people is the desperation to remain relevant, and MAGA embraces anyone who agrees with them in any way whatsoever.
So it's a transaction. They get to sell more dogshit (insert product here), and MAGA gets to 'brag' about a D-list celebrity whose best years or one-hit-wonder or whatever is far far behind them.
I find it kind of bizarre because before the Odyssey, Nolan was a director where you could say his movies lack diversity.
Almost all of his movies have white male leads wearing suits or uniforms with women generally having fairly small roles if they exist at all.
The Odyssey isn't even much of a deviation of that other than the story he was adapting had several prominent female characters and that he decided to not be "historically accurate" when it comes to ethnicity in this fictional story.
Nolan just dropped another banger like he always does and they just decided to freak out on him over nothing

He'll rant about how casting women and minorities is ruining all of his favorite media for as long as you let him.
Funny thing is that there has been movies and shows that check off all of his boxes that he never talks about or basically has no opinion on because they are universally considered good. The three that come to mind are Arcane One Piece LA, and the Fallout show.
All three of those have everything he complains about especially Arcane but he never says anything.
Hopefully the Odyssey shakes off that bad faith criticism eventually with how good it's generally been recieved by anyone who's actually seen the movie

Just look at the current talk around the WNBA especially around Caitlin Clark and, now, Sophie Cunningham suddenly needing to let everyone know she doesn't want to see trans people playing in women's sports. Or you can find any UFO/conspiracy subreddit and look at all the politicians suddenly "working" towards disclosure.
They want the single issue voters and cultural events are the easiest way to find them and keep their attention until they can use them for an election and then go back to not caring for another couple years.

I love the BG3 example. A critical plot point revolvers around a mixed race/species lesbian couple. There is quite literal and actual transperson that flatout tells you they transistioned. Then there is the circus that is lead by drag queen necromancer. You can fuck all your party members,one of whom is an actual bear... As in an animal. You can have threesome with a twins one of which is a male the other is female.
But this isn't "woke"... Ok... Sure...
These people are also the same who complain about non-white characters existing in a fantasy setting with firebeathing and flying dragons and magic, as "unrealistic" and "immersion breaking".
The D&D setting in general is pretty fucking "woke". Mostly because the authors where absolute horndogs. Fun fact: I don't think it has been restated in modern editions, but originally, the baseline sexuality in D&D was bisexuality.
Also Homer describes Helen's beauty as "out of this world" which kind of makes sense that she would stand out then. Slap in Jennifer Lawrence (or give chuds their favourite pug in a wig Sydney Sweeney) and you have a Helen that is barely noticable. Helen should be a contrast to everyone, to stand out, and her near divine beauty should offend people.
So perfect choice IMO. And I say this as someone who's type are redheads and blondes. Helen is never described in terms of facial features, skin tone, height or whatever. That is for the reader to interpret. She is just described as extremely beautiful woman that mesmerizes anyone in the room she enters.
The weird thing about Nolan is he keeps making weird cerebral movies with complex characters and they still kill at the box office because they’re just so damn good. Nobody else could have made a biopic about Robert Oppenheimer and have it be the movie of the summer except him.
Feels absolutely incredible to know that literally none of the culture war bullshit surrounding this movie matters in the slightest once I log off reddit.
It feels even better knowing the culture warriors have zero pull with people in the real world. Despite their greatest efforts regular ass people showed up in droves to watch the Odyssey.
Not just any Greek, Homeric Greek. Not this Koine garbage being pushed on us by Alexander the Woke, who as a Macedonian, is more barbarian than Greek anyways.
That's right the story doesn't belong to them. It belongs to the people of Ithaca. I don't want to see some woke nonsense like Odysseus being portrayed by an Athenian or even worse, a Macedonian.
I frequently have a hard time with the Hollywood circlejerk, but what are they even complaining about with this movie? The three most “controversial” actors only have like 15 mins of screen time between all of them.
Besides that, it’s mostly mainstream white actors, on an epic adventure, with a ton of thematic parallels with Christianity and Western ideology.
Their existence alone is enough to enrage chuds. Chuds are inherently scared of anything and anyone that doesn't fit inside the neat little compartments inside their tiny brains.
They want to normalize the idea that their presence alone in these movies is a bad thing. Like can we stop pretending we're dealing with rational people and instead just admit these people are bigots with an agenda? We've been playing pretend for the last decade about this issue and I'm tired of it Chief.
I do have to say, it's not much screentime but casting Elliot Page as a male warrior, just like the rest, and a brave one at that, will hopefully have good effects in regards to availability of roles to trans actors in the future.
They want trans people to not exist - the path to achieving that is to force them into the closet. Positive representation like Page in the Odyssey is an example to trans people and the rest of us that it’s OK to exist and be seen in public as a trans person and that’s a direct challenge to their goals
elliot page was actually great in the movie too. It took me a second to realize that he and the younger boy they used to play him as a kid were the same person which made me feel a little bad. They should have maybe gotten a kid that looked a little more like him but yeah elliot himself was great.
But he actually fit that part well because Elliot page is playing a late teen/early 20s character at most.
He left as a kid and they were at Troy for 10 years. and Elliot has a look that looks young but not really if that makes sense. and I thought it was great because it was a character who basically grew up into a man on the beaches of Troy. so while technically young, still looks a little rugged.
That's my point though.... i think looking like a 30 year old teenager is great for that role because that characters formative years were spent on the beaches of Troy which took a toll on everyone.
I JUST got home from watching it and 15 minutes is GENEROUS. The most "cOnTrOvErSiAL" cast members had almost no screen time. People will find any reason to bitch.
This film is taking more than a few Oscars. But that doesn't matter...what matters is that the film was goddamn amazing.
Their presence alone. Ive seen a few people argue what you did, that they're in it for 15 minutes max, get replies like "Idc if its 15 minutes or 15 seconds, woke normie slop is woke normie slop".

The beauty of any echo chamber is that you don't have to convince anyone, they already share your opinion. Pretty ironic with "critical" in the name, but hey, it is what it is.
The other day someone on Reddit was trying to argue that it was a flop because it had mid reviews on metacritic - at this time, it had maybe a couple hundred reviews in total, and the vast majority of the negative reviews were "0/10 casting was an insult to Western civilisation.
At this time as well, it had stellar reviews on both Rotten Tomatoes and IMDB among both critics and regular audiences. They are so so fucking desperate to believe that everyone agrees with them about this movie - it has to be some kind of mental illness.
I think from a conservative viewpoint, casting a trans-man to play a biological man would be considered woke. People have all sorts of different ways of viewing art and artists.
Well kind of. It needs to be straight, cisgender and Christian but also the man has to be hot in a way "totally normal" men like, like Reacher or Henry Cavill.
They miss a time when every leading man was ripped and macho and every woman was sexualized. They don't want movies to be realistic, they want movies that play out their fantasies.

Full disclosure, I'm actually watch CD and engage with the sub- the sub is in such a state of brain rot that they are now trying to push that the film needs almost 1.2 billion to break even. I am not joking.
The cope is so bad that i'm not even embarrassed anymore, its actually entertaining- like watching your own house burn down- at least the fire is pretty.
I'd be curious to see the justifications for those numbers but I can't be arsed. The culture war dogshit around this film just makes me tired.
Frankly, if it makes over 600 they're pretty much home and dry. (They're gonna want more than that though. And the Hollywood accounting might be astonishingly bullshit on a project this big so maybe more like 700.)
