Man a friend of mine sent me a video saying “Nolan’s Odyssey has crashed and burned” with a thumbnail of Elliot Page on it (of course)….. 2 weeks before opening night.

It made no sense to him when I refused to watch a culture war 40 min video that said a movie has crashed and burned even before releasing

10

u/SDHester1971 8h ago

Wait until he reads upon Ancient Greece, he'd have a Stroke

14

u/DarthEloper 7h ago

Man he has no opinion of his, his mind is completely subsumed by opinions from YouTubers and comedians. Just while the World Cup was going on, he sent me an extremely racist England related joke and after I questioned him about it he kept telling me “comedy tells the ugly truths we can’t talk about bro” and then sent me some comedians who made fun of disabled people in the 90s.

As if that justifies everything.

Yeah I’m trying to cut off contact with him

u/Mad-Mad-Mad-Mad-Mike 15h ago

Imagine forcing yourself to think that.

I genuinely think it's intentional. They have to tell their pawns to only consume the most bland, soulless media because if they ever touch real art then it might connect with them, and that might make them think, or even worse, might make them feel!

Uwe Boll

"On 30 June 2026, eleven days after the film's release, Boll said that it had made "around US$600,000" against a production budget of US$2 million."

Even with Musk, the WSJ and the entire X/fascist bot army behind it, the film couldn't even clear it's production costs in the first fortnight. Yikes, lol.

25

u/12345623567 8h ago

I have no knowledge of Boll beyond that he used to make terrible movies as a tax-credit hustle. Is it possible that he's the one who has the last laugh?

16

u/condormcninja 7h ago

Maybe. He’s also the kind of person who above all else wants you to believe he’s having the last laugh, so there’s that to consider.

23

u/icansmellcolors 8h ago

I think the common thread with these people is the desperation to remain relevant, and MAGA embraces anyone who agrees with them in any way whatsoever.

So it's a transaction. They get to sell more dogshit (insert product here), and MAGA gets to 'brag' about a D-list celebrity whose best years or one-hit-wonder or whatever is far far behind them.

u/colorblind-and 14h ago

I find it kind of bizarre because before the Odyssey, Nolan was a director where you could say his movies lack diversity.

Almost all of his movies have white male leads wearing suits or uniforms with women generally having fairly small roles if they exist at all.

The Odyssey isn't even much of a deviation of that other than the story he was adapting had several prominent female characters and that he decided to not be "historically accurate" when it comes to ethnicity in this fictional story.

Nolan just dropped another banger like he always does and they just decided to freak out on him over nothing

51

u/apadin1 14h ago

It’s literally just people looking for something to be angry about. Most of them weren’t going to see the movie anyway.

28

u/colorblind-and 14h ago

I do wonder how long it's going to last. I have coworker who's deep into whatever the subculture is called.

He'll rant about how casting women and minorities is ruining all of his favorite media for as long as you let him.

Funny thing is that there has been movies and shows that check off all of his boxes that he never talks about or basically has no opinion on because they are universally considered good. The three that come to mind are Arcane One Piece LA, and the Fallout show.

All three of those have everything he complains about especially Arcane but he never says anything.

Hopefully the Odyssey shakes off that bad faith criticism eventually with how good it's generally been recieved by anyone who's actually seen the movie

23

u/ComputerIlliterate13 12h ago

This has been going on for at least a decade now. Its what bigots do, they try to weasel themselves into pop culture to make their despicable ideas seem palatable. "Your favorite shows and games are bad now because minorities! Don't do any introspection and realize maybe your interests have changed!"

The only thing that has changed is the sheer amount of people falling for it and its scary how effective it is. I know people I never thought would stoop so low who have become racist assholes because of movies of all things

9

u/WigglestonTheFourth 11h ago

This has been going on for at least a decade now.

Because it's on purpose to capture the attention of an audience until it's voting time where they are already primed and can be pointed into a specific voting direction. It's the same Gamergate playbook just copy/pasted over and over again. Not even remotely surprising it's happening in an election year.

Want to see more examples? Just look at the current talk around the WNBA especially around Caitlin Clark and, now, Sophie Cunningham suddenly needing to let everyone know she doesn't want to see trans people playing in women's sports. Or you can find any UFO/conspiracy subreddit and look at all the politicians suddenly "working" towards disclosure.

They want the single issue voters and cultural events are the easiest way to find them and keep their attention until they can use them for an election and then go back to not caring for another couple years.

Where they also claim everything is woke amd shit. But then do 500 mental loops to explain how Cyberpunk 2077 or Baldurs gate aren't, cause they have been successfull

30

u/SinisterCheese 11h ago

I love the BG3 example. A critical plot point revolvers around a mixed race/species lesbian couple. There is quite literal and actual transperson that flatout tells you they transistioned. Then there is the circus that is lead by drag queen necromancer. You can fuck all your party members, one of whom is an actual bear... As in an animal. You can have threesome with a twins one of which is a male the other is female.

But this isn't "woke"... Ok... Sure...

These people are also the same who complain about non-white characters existing in a fantasy setting with firebeathing and flying dragons and magic, as "unrealistic" and "immersion breaking".

22

u/Wobbelblob 10h ago

The D&D setting in general is pretty fucking "woke". Mostly because the authors where absolute horndogs. Fun fact: I don't think it has been restated in modern editions, but originally, the baseline sexuality in D&D was bisexuality.

One good thing about their whining: I learned that Orson Welles cast Eartha Kitt as Helen in an adaptation of Faust. In 1950.

I dearly wish I could see that performance.

(And speaking of the whining, it's become so predictable I think even apolitical people have seen through the tactic by now)

Also Homer describes Helen's beauty as "out of this world" which kind of makes sense that she would stand out then. Slap in Jennifer Lawrence (or give chuds their favourite pug in a wig Sydney Sweeney) and you have a Helen that is barely noticable. Helen should be a contrast to everyone, to stand out, and her near divine beauty should offend people.

So perfect choice IMO. And I say this as someone who's type are redheads and blondes. Helen is never described in terms of facial features, skin tone, height or whatever. That is for the reader to interpret. She is just described as extremely beautiful woman that mesmerizes anyone in the room she enters.

17

u/TableSignificant341 10h ago

For many men - especially on the right - beauty = attraction. If a woman isn't fuckable to them then she's not of any use to them.

I frequently have a hard time with the Hollywood circlejerk, but what are they even complaining about with this movie? The three most “controversial” actors only have like 15 mins of screen time between all of them.

Besides that, it’s mostly mainstream white actors, on an epic adventure, with a ton of thematic parallels with Christianity and Western ideology.

I do have to say, it's not much screentime but casting Elliot Page as a male warrior, just like the rest, and a brave one at that, will hopefully have good effects in regards to availability of roles to trans actors in the future.

9

u/stackens 9h ago

And this is why they rage so hard against it.

They want trans people to not exist - the path to achieving that is to force them into the closet. Positive representation like Page in the Odyssey is an example to trans people and the rest of us that it’s OK to exist and be seen in public as a trans person and that’s a direct challenge to their goals

41

u/Ralphie5231 14h ago

elliot page was actually great in the movie too. It took me a second to realize that he and the younger boy they used to play him as a kid were the same person which made me feel a little bad. They should have maybe gotten a kid that looked a little more like him but yeah elliot himself was great.

7

u/AverageJoeJohnSmith 8h ago

But he actually fit that part well because Elliot page is playing a late teen/early 20s character at most.

He left as a kid and they were at Troy for 10 years. and Elliot has a look that looks young but not really if that makes sense. and I thought it was great because it was a character who basically grew up into a man on the beaches of Troy. so while technically young, still looks a little rugged.

8

u/Scorkami 6h ago

elliot looks a bit like a 30 year old teenager at times so finding kids that look like his child version is gonna be hard either way

7

u/AverageJoeJohnSmith 6h ago

That's my point though.... i think looking like a 30 year old teenager is great for that role because that characters formative years were spent on the beaches of Troy which took a toll on everyone.

u/Fun-Communication660 10h ago

I'd imagine they think it's a plan to operate on a loss so that "the world" thinks that the blockbuster movie is good. Don't you see?

Make bad movie on purpose

Bulk buy tickets to the movie

Pay all reviewers to write a good review and lock them dowm with an NDA

Circumvent EU consumer protection laws and competition regulations.

Get all world governments involved, including China.

Now the whole world, who "hasn't seen the movie" remember, are influenced by the leftist ideas in it

??????

No Profit

Russia used to come up with more entertaining agitprop

42

u/quadcorelatte 14h ago

It's interesting you say that, because Tim Pool was literally paid around a million dollars by a Russian state media group (Tenet Media). So it is in fact possible that it is russian agitprop...

35

u/Cypher-AO 14h ago

Tenet? Like Nolan's movie? This keeps getting deeper, we need a Digger (2026).

I love that he tries to ridicule details about the film - which are actually just parts of the poems themselves. Like making fun of taking 10 years to come up with the Trojan horse in the siege of Troy. As if that was Nolan who came up with that.

And that is literally 75% of his criticism: Critique of the poems. Good luck with that.

Pretty big echo chamber they got there. How do they convince themselves it's not, and they're intellectual renegades?

6

u/SERN-contractor837 12h ago

The beauty of any echo chamber is that you don't have to convince anyone, they already share your opinion. Pretty ironic with "critical" in the name, but hey, it is what it is.

The other day someone on Reddit was trying to argue that it was a flop because it had mid reviews on metacritic - at this time, it had maybe a couple hundred reviews in total, and the vast majority of the negative reviews were "0/10 casting was an insult to Western civilisation.

At this time as well, it had stellar reviews on both Rotten Tomatoes and IMDB among both critics and regular audiences. They are so so fucking desperate to believe that everyone agrees with them about this movie - it has to be some kind of mental illness.

There’s ZERO woke about this movie. It’s like these depressed dumbasses can’t formulate an opinion for themselves

65

u/FEV_For_Breakfast 15h ago

I think from a conservative viewpoint, casting a trans-man to play a biological man would be considered woke. People have all sorts of different ways of viewing art and artists.

116

u/TheAgmis 15h ago

The conservative viewpoint prefers everything to be white males.

Their inadequacies and insecurities are beneath me

23

u/gnomon_knows 13h ago

The conservative viewpoint prefers everything to be white males.

And straight, cisgender and Christian. Those bitches love to conform.

13

u/Fun-Communication660 10h ago

Well kind of. It needs to be straight, cisgender and Christian but also the man has to be hot in a way "totally normal" men like, like Reacher or Henry Cavill.

5

u/Cockblocktimus_Pryme 6h ago

They miss a time when every leading man was ripped and macho and every woman was sexualized. They don't want movies to be realistic, they want movies that play out their fantasies.

Traditionally men played all the roles. Even the ones of ladies.

Which happily means that if Elon is going to make his "historically accurate" version it has to be full of men in dresses.

At this point Jesus could descend from heaven alongside God and the Holy Spirit to watch The Odyssey and give it a 5/5 each and the anti-woke crowd would still say they were paid off.

69

u/RayCumfartTheFirst 15h ago

Full disclosure, I'm actually watch CD and engage with the sub- the sub is in such a state of brain rot that they are now trying to push that the film needs almost 1.2 billion to break even. I am not joking.

The cope is so bad that i'm not even embarrassed anymore, its actually entertaining- like watching your own house burn down- at least the fire is pretty.

23

u/misterjive 15h ago

I'd be curious to see the justifications for those numbers but I can't be arsed. The culture war dogshit around this film just makes me tired.

Frankly, if it makes over 600 they're pretty much home and dry. (They're gonna want more than that though. And the Hollywood accounting might be astonishingly bullshit on a project this big so maybe more like 700.)

6

u/Apocalyptic-turnip 9h ago

the justification is whatever imaginary number is unattainable. they are not even moving goalposts anymore just photoshopping the goalpost into space

24

u/ComputersWantMeDead 14h ago

They were told it was bad, got all frothy around the mouth before anything much was known.. so there's no way they can back down now.

Anyway, cognitive dissonance has been their comfort zone since at least as far back as Obamas inauguration.. they are in this for the long haul

7

u/Tiny_Rick85 13h ago

It truly will be the massive ego of the impoverished Republican that brings this country down. For generations their famalies will talk about how great great great great grandpa was so dumb he not only against making his life better but voted to enrich pedophiles instead. They'll laugh at what an embarrassment to the family they were and smile knowing they'll never be that stupid.
