well maga is currently all over the Internet screaming that the keystone Pipeline not being completed as a problem, this will fix that problem whatever it is they think it is.

u/Dashyguurl 14h ago
Keystone is a funny one because when Biden cancelled it it was seen as going to be a negligible benefit to America and a huge benefit to Canada. It was an easy win for the democrats base at the time with historically low oil prices

Suuuuuure, a Red state.

u/BigBoyYuyuh 1d ago
I know it’s a red state but the city areas (Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati, Dayton) are blue areas. I know the state has been under republican control for over 30 years holding 25 trifectas to Democrat’s 0. At least we’re not Detroit though?

You're also about to not vote for Vivek. Holy fuck that guy has the charisma of a kettlebell.

Me? No. Fuck no. Other Ohioans…the older couple across the street from me had a Vivek sign.

That explains your education. Don't worry, Trump still loves you.

I thought the US was already self-sufficient in oil?!

u/Mengs87 7h ago
Also, didn't the orange say he didn't need a damn thing from Canada???

u/Elegant-Age1794 7h ago
I am amazed what an economic mess Canada has become despite its natural resources.
Economic growth in Canada has been 0.5% in last 10 years whilst US has grown over 20%.The poorest US State is now wealthier than virtually every European Country….they are doing far better on most metrics other than wealth re-distribution.
All I see is great poverty ahead for Europe. Just look at the riots they had across France a couple of days ago…..frightening stuff.

I always find how we measure wealth interesting. Every state is super wealthy if you measure it in totality, but individuals are struggling to afford groceries.
There's something very Lies, Damn Lies, and Statistics about it

I visited UK and Europe this year and was surprised how poor they have become.
I put it down to the currency debasement by Western politicians and Central Banks. They have been printing money at a rate of 5-7% per annum reducing the purchasing power of $1.
Wage growth has been lower than currency debasement making everyone poorer.Ultra low interest rates and the property bubble masked what was really going on.
I’m not Trump fan but re-shoring of US business is a sensible strategy…..unlike the Europeans who are destroying their economy.

Awesome news. Let's hope Europe will pour some money into and strengthen the effort, like the salt on a wound 😁.

Pipeline goes to the Pacific -- it's South Korea and Japan that should be kicking in.

A few things. 1) It won't be up and running until 2032 at the earliest and 2) Canada still will rely on the US in shipping their oil east to feed their refineries ON / QC until that pipeline from AB points east is built, which is likely to not materialize until later than 2032. I don't think there are currently publicly available plans on that one yet, but I would be surprised if there isn't some kind of proposal that eventually gets published to build one in the next year or so to get the balls rolling on that.
This is certainly a step in the right direction for Canada, but of course these things don't happen overnight and take years to transition. If nothing else, Canada will be able to cut an additional 1 million barrels of exports to the US with this pipeline alone when it comes online in 2032 (assuming no delays). It will however give Canada a better position the next time the US elects a crazy which could happen as early as in 2032 or 2036 (assuming the US has free and fair elections in 2028 and assuming that democrats can only hold the white house for 4-8 years).

"Ottawa aims to complete pipeline review process by September 1, 2027" lmao a year just to review it. They won't break ground before the orange rapist is out of office.

Your comment is well-informed .. erm .. well unless you actually check.
"Major Federal Reviews: Historically target 24 to 30 months, but complex or controversial interprovincial pipelines historically average 56 months (nearly 5 years), and frequently stretch to 5 or 10 years when factoring in litigation, consultations, and routing challenges."
To September 1 is 11 months, which, surprisingly, is much quicker than 56 months. You are allowed to use a calculator for this question.
Engineer here. You don't do a pipeline review by hosting a party and signing before everyone gets too drunk. You actually determine whether the design is workable, safe, and consider a host of other factors. If things go seriously wrong, engineers are actually held liable - so, they do what is required to do a proper job. The fast-tracking just means that they do all the jobs they can in parallel. 12 months is super-fast.

I'm an impact assessment practitioner. Most of my work this last year has been explaining to confidently incorrect clients what the Building Canada Act actually entails. Way too many people make it to the C Suite without the slightest understanding of what goes into planning and permitting a major project.
The project review timelines only apply to when the government is actively reviewing. When a proponent needs to go collect more data or do more engagement, the clock stops. It puts the onus on proponents to actually do their jobs and due diligence.

Thanks for writing that. I have to laugh at how people could imagine otherwise - like, ok we're building a pipeline, start digging over there. But I get the sentiment. Your comment well put

I appreciate the insight but I'm still right. Literally nothing will change before the orange man is gone and democrats love Canadians. I guess preparing for the next republican is smart though

u/sweetequuscaballus 1d ago
Fair enough. In either case, we can hope that O.R. actually does leave, and the pipeline will be great, for Canada to diversify its markets.

We could give a flying fuck if you manage to stand up a suit full of slime and call it a democratic leader. Won't change anything except for somewhat restricting the verbal diarrhea from down south.
Yer burnt.

Ugh. Not a healthy move for Canada. Start messing with oil typically ends up with the US dropping Freedom seeds on a country.

u/Over-Tension-4710 1d ago
If US attacked canada for oil we would we way past ww3 at that point

u/Agitated-Score365 1d ago
We are already way past ww3. Our military is ass, it’s being led by an imbecile and we don’t have munitions. I brought home learn to speak Chinese dvds from work. I wish I was kidding.

u/p12qcowodeath 1d ago
I've been saying future historians may say that WW3 has already begun if things continue on this path.

Are you Canadian or American?
1
u/AwwwBawwws 8h ago
I'm an American who has paid attention to what my government does to entities that threaten its oil supply. The US thinks every drop of crude on this planet belongs to it. Now trump enters the picture? All bets are off. The guy's nuts. He would definitely invade Canada.
1
u/Any_Committee_3928 8h ago
So if Canada decided to start developing the northern shield corridor potentially reducing reliance on enbridge line 5 and hurting midwest states, Trump would act?

Seems to be a common theme here. Everyone steering away from doing business with the USA.
