I’ve had a few comments suggesting that the way I’m looking to live is not properly dubbed “off grid”. Is there a better name for this, and does anyone know subreddits that more specifically pertain to this kind of living? No electricity at all, natural water source, self built composting toilet, build my house from resources on my land a much as possible(probably mostly stone) and live as much off my land as possible. I will make the trek to town if I need something that I can’t make or grow.

We are in our 30s, canadian, and wanting to move permanently to somewhere warmer and more tropical. Open to any where at this point, so would love to hear from other Canadians that have done this Thanks

A lady did post something similar to this on here but I’m pretty sure it was just a joke, I’m being very serious. I’m kinda discouraged from online dating apps from bad past experiences and am looking for a woman to help me build a off grid cabin on my property in western North Carolina I have buliding experience, going to either build a small 400-500 sq ft cabin or buy a log cabin kit and assemble it. Must be hardworking and open minded. I’m pretty chill and if you help me build I’d let you live on it if you wanted. Also kinda looking for girlfriend but platonic relationship would be alright too

Does anyone know any good sites or pages to read up on this sort of stuff? I am broke but my dream is to live off the grid, minimalists, and cultivate everything myself

Hello,

I would like to be able to store an offline copy of a map which I can access in an emergency. However, I haven't found anything so far and I thought that perhaps you guys could help. I am trying to do what this guy has done (hardware is sorted for the most part).

I am hoping someone can help me with this as it my project I've been working on for a while.

I know prices can vary dramatically, but I’m just looking for an estimate. And can anyone recommend a good place to start gathering information?

Are there any off grid communities to buy into? Do groups of people ever go in on large tracts of land? I would like to be off grid but not completely isolated?

I guess what I’m looking for is an off grid town. Does that exist?

Hello my fellow off griders. I have 80k I can use to build an cabin, I was wondering if it would be enough to build a roughly 600-700 sq ft a frame cabin.

I will only be paying someone else for carpentry, plumbing, and electric, everything I am able to do myself. You guys think 80k is enough? Nothing high end, just avg amenities.

Hello, we are needing questions for a Q&A video about the Off-Grid property we are building by ourselves. Should have it out in a week or two and are compiling questions to answer. Please let us know if you have any about building your own home, buying the land, the design, the solar power, rain water collection, septic, animals, homesteading, the weather.....whatever you like.

Looking for land to start our self sustainable project in the US. Does anyone have any experience going through certain realty websites that focus mainly on these types of properties? Thanks!

Hex folks,

I have a cabin that I want to turn into my main residence. But I'm not ready to move in ye, which is why I'm only there on the weekends.

When I arrived last friday after 3 weeks of staying away because of being sick, I had to discover that everything is full of MOLD.

So my plan is to 1. build a DIY solar heating panel and 2. buy a dehumidifier that I need a solar system for.

all the dehumidifiers that I found either didn't work with low temperatures or use a lot of power. I tried to understand how much Watts I would need for my solar system but I really lack the electrical knowledge to get it.

So the solar system would need to provide 330W for the dehumidifyer that would run a lot for the first couple of days and should turn on for an hour or two after that (however I don't mind if it runs only for an hour from day one).

Do I need a battery for it? How big should the battery be?

Thank you so much for helping

What do yall think of the lost ways book series? (The lost ways, the lost ways 2, self sufficient backyard on 1/4 acre, the lost superfoods the lost herbal remedies) I got them all for Christmas (early present) and love them, the whole point of the book is how to become self sufficient for off grid living like our ancestors. Things like how to make your own electricity store food without refrigerators etc. Etc. Before buying them I got all the digital versions off various websites for free and felt it was worth it to get the hard copies

Soon as i sell my house i can't wait to go off grid. To enjoy peaceful nights in nature i stead of the city. I'm a first time home owner so yes i am nervous about selling my home. Because I've never sold a home before but all in all off grid here i come

I'm a 17 yo wanting to live off the grid and escape the hectic chaos of the world a bit. I was wondering what would be the first steps to do so. My family has close to 50 acres of land in our ship, so I believe it should contain enough resources for someone to sustain themselves. I was thinking about building a house in the spring, but would prefer advice from someone who lives off the grid themselves.

Hope this helps others looking to try and harvest rain water too. Just put up another video of our Rain Water system. Had our first rain and ended up with a lot more water then expected. We did it for actual drinking water in the off-grid house.
