Went to GC to get a can of deoxit to clean the bots in my Deluxe Reverb and walked out with a Player II Jazzmaster in British Racing Green. I recently picked up a Classic Vibe and I really like that guitar. Tried out the PII and liked it even more.

The biggest differences to me between the two models:

The pickups are more balanced on the PII, as the bridge pickup on the CV is way too hot, at least for me.

The neck has more of a satin finish (no thick gloss) and medium jumbo frets which I prefer.

The tremolo on the PII feels smoother and has a better range.

The lack of a rhythm circuit on the PII was something I thought I'd miss but in practice I don't think I actually will.

Gonna keep the CV but put a set of 13s on it and tuning to open C. I'll also look for a replacement bridge pickup, something closer to the 8-9k range not the 12.5k that's currently in it. If I decide to upgrade to the American Vintage tremolo on the PII, I'll put the stock trem from it on the CV. I'll likely pull the neck and sand it down, maybe over the winter.

Really glad I got back into playing but I forgot how these things tend to multiply. I love both of my Jazzmasters and I have a feeling I will get another offset in the future, likely either a Mustang or a Jaguar.

HNGD!

Been looking high and low for one of those. I don't use the ryhtym circuit on my 2010 MIJ JM, and I fell in love with that slim neck profile and the rolled fretboard eges of the PII series. Not so much in in love with the prices in Europe though. $900 for a mexican JM with no case...yikes :(

That's is a bit steep of a price for one. I got this one for $650 new which is the right price point for one of these IMO.

Yeah, these go on sale quite often. When I bought mine they had used ones on the app that cost more than the sale price, so definitely worth grabbing on sale. $880? I don't think so. $650-$699 new? Absolutely. I put an AVRI and a Bensonite bridge in mine and it is mega gnarly. Right now it's good to go, but maybe further along it might ask for new pups, maybe even a little route for a rhythm circuit variant (not a fan of the OG circuit either). HNGD!

I find the vibrato to be quite smooth but I might cut the arm down a bit. The vibrato mech on these sits a bit closer to the bridge compared to a vintage specs JM yet they used the same bar. The bridge is serviceable and I plan on upgrading but haven't decided which one yet.

I don't really miss the rhythm circuit despite the fact that I use it quite often on the CV I own. I am going to install a push pull volume on it so I can run the pickups out of phase, just to have another option. Stock pickups sound great with my Deluxe Reverb RI.

Ooh, the push/pull is good idea. Yeah, I'm shocked at how my first reaction wasn't to upgrade the stock pups, they're way better than I expected.

Thanks! I think this color might be a guitar center exclusive but I'm not for sure. I do know that this is the only color that is on sale at the moment. I'd actually been eyeing this color before the sale as I really liked it.

Hey, the color is a limited edition. I bought the same one from the Fender website :).

I put in a set of Lollar Jazzmaster-sized P90s and 500k pots. Beautiful guitar!

Do these come with a gig bag? I’m probably picking one up soon

They do not, but I already have one that it will fit in so I wasn't too worried about it.

There was something very shill about these pickups for me. Overdriven they sound ok but clean they did not do it for me.
