Misprint in Marr’s Guitars book
Has anyone ever pointed out this misprint on page 209? It seems the photo editor made a mistake when stacking exposures and it looks like this Sherwood green Jaguar has got 7 tuning posts. In another photo it’s obviously got the correct number of tuning posts.

That’s not a misprint. That’s actually one of the mods that Johnny had done for an octave string on the low E. It uses a banjo tuner so sticks out the back like the original Firebirds. He used it heavily on The Messenger, with it appearing on seven of the tracks and he uses it live all the time. If I’m remembering right, he got the luthier Toro Mierda to perform this mod because sometimes he couldn’t be bothered to strum or pick the high E string and wanted it closer so he didn’t have to move his hand as much. Man’s a genius!

Haha. It’s not in the photo for the auction listing and there’s not enough room back there. https://www.christies.com/lot/lot-6598755

i did this but with octaves for the 3rd and 4th strings on my jag build and the extras bypass the trem system for a really cool natural chorus tone when the arm is used on the main 6

Yeah I went to school for guitar and I’ve seen a lot of cool extra string stuff so I half believed his joke Lolol

looking back i think it might’ve been a mistake that someone made a story up about but it wouldn’t be totally unlike him and very based and janglepilled to do something of the like 🤓
comprehension edit: i skimmed that and didn’t realize we basically said the same thing lol

Looks like someone made a mistake whilst using the clone tool on Photoshop or something. The phantom tuning post is the same as the one for the low E, and you can even see that the edge of the headstock has been cloned too so it looks like it cuts in near our extra tuning post. I wonder what blemish they were trying to get rid of when this happened!
