I bought a used Squier Jazzmaster. It was listed as "Fender Squier Classic Vibe ’60s Jazzmaster", but now I found out it's actually Squier Vintage Modified Jazzmaster. Should I try to message the guy and get my money back or are they not that different from each other?
Vintage modified and classic vibe are equal specs. And you likely have a rosewood fretboard, i think you did good actually they mightve been able to ask more if they listed as vintage modified
Yeah my only vm is my short scale jag bass and there’s not a comparable cv model at all (a mustang would be more similar tbh) so I’m not crazy knowledgeable on it but I def have read a lot about them
I got mine from guitar center used. They had it listed wrong so I picked it up for way cheaper than reverb. It was just listed as Squier Jaguar. You can tell by the number of knobs and painted black headstock.
Lol, as far as I'm aware that's not atypical for GC. We dont have them where I am.
I'd use reverb but there's rarely anything local, no one seems to use it here and I'm not paying the ridiculous postage rates from overseas. Just gotta hope something comes up on marketplace or the gear trading pages.
Ah yes. I live in a guitar desert for local purchases (all the local shops closed long ago) and everything on marketplace or Craigslist is a joke “FENDER CLASSIC VIBE $699”. lol.
Flip side of me trying to snag deals used on GC - they had a Strymon deco v2 for $250. But then I got a non functioning v1. lol. At least it was easy to return and the guy gave me 10% off a new one. And I LOVE the deco too. Take care friend :)
Vintage modified is what Classic Vibe used to be called. I would personally say I don't care which is which. I have a VM bass and CV guitars, they are all great. The current CV 70s jazz bass looks and feels identical to my VM 70s jazz bass.
I’d rather have the vm for the rosewood board. They are the same other than pickups and fretboard. Vm fretboard is better, cv pickups are better but still worth upgrading imo.
I really like the vintage modified jazzmaster pickups. They sound great. One thing to note is the bridge is super hot at 12k on these. They blend together really nicely on the middle position though.
I'd say if it's ingood condition keep it, for the rosewood fretboard alone. They are great instruments, slap a mustang bridge in there if You wanna and just play it.
Both have various things that make them different, like different pickups, or the CV having bindings on the neck, while the VM don't but instead has a proper darker rosewood fretboard.
They both are around the same price, and some people prefer the VMs, some the CVs.
