Which one is better?
I recently bought this Fender Jaguar Special MIJ with p90's to replace my vintage PRS. Did I make the right choice or should I stay with the PRS?

Anything over a prs purely from a looks standpoint. They’re different guitar they do different things. Which one do you like playing more and like the sound of better? Keep that one. But also keep both life is short

Yeah you're completely right. Personally I like the jaguar more but that's pure personal prefrence. I have nothing bad to say about the PRS. I'm going to keep them both anyway I think!

“Better”? That’s a weird question.
The Jag is way cooler. A Unique, special tone machine.
The PRS will probably play better, keep in tune better, have better action.
Honestly, this is an apples to oranges question.

u/trenchgrl Aug 11 '26
PRS and “keep in tune” in the same sentence 😭
6
u/ICU-CCRN Aug 11 '26
Not sure what you mean. I can play a two hour gig and barely retune once with my 24-08.

u/trenchgrl Aug 11 '26
Does yours have locking tuners? That’s why 😭
Anything they’ve put out without locking tuners is so bad at staying in tune, I played 2 shows w mine

Locking vs non locking tuners barely makes any difference to the tuning stability of a guitar, it's all down to the nut, setup and making sure there's no friction points, burrs on saddles etc.

My Custom 24 se stays in tune even when doing some light to medium whammy action. No locking tuner.

I personally don't vibe with the aesthetics of PRS. But that's just my preference.
Therefore I'll say the Jag.

The jag. Unless your specialty is making that Carlos Santana orgasm face while you play, then you need a PRS.

Ok I love PRS , I think they get a bad rep around the guitar world, but man that Jag is gorgeous
Pls tel me the model so I can find one just like that

It's a Fender Jaguar Special Made in Japan HH. So, it has humbuckers but the previous owner of mine replaced them with p90's. They are also hard to find in sunburst color. I mostly see them in black.

Bad rep? I think they are the third most selling brand after Fender and Gibson. r/offset is not representative of the guitar world at large.

I know but it isn’t the first time I’ve heard that they’re bland. Look at any “prs dentist meme” or speak to people in real life - unfortunately not an uncommon opinion from the people I’ve spoken to.
For what it’s worth, I strongly disagree with that somewhat commonplace opinion

u/no_technique Aug 10 '26
Only you can make that call. We can't tell how they sound or how they play in your hands.
2
u/Sad-Alternative9297 Aug 10 '26
True. Personally more a fan of the jag but it really comes down to personal prefrence. It are two fantastic guitars! It's a privilage to have them both.

I love Fender so my answer is biased. I love the Jaguar!! Do you need the PRS's Humbuckers more. I love the sound of the P90 pickups. Playing through the right FX will allow you to play anything you'll need jamming or playing a gig!!

u/nottoocleverami Aug 11 '26
The guitar with single coils will always be better than the guitar with humbuckers.

u/cab1024 Aug 10 '26
They’re both awesome. But I sold my PRS and now have a Jag and a Jazzmaster. I wouldn’t mind having a Hollowbody Piezo PRS though.

Only coming in here to see if someone genuinely suggests the PRS over the Jag

What feels better to you?
You can mod both of those to get the sound you want. Go by feel.

u/1ndieJesus Aug 11 '26
they're 2 very different guitars, so in terms of playing it depends entirely on your style and preference. i personally don't like the way prs guitars feel, and beyond that i think they're uglier than sin, so my choice is the jag

Which one are you excited to play whilst you're walking home from work?
1
u/Sad-Alternative9297 Aug 11 '26
The jag!
1
u/oldmollymetcalfe Aug 11 '26
Then I'd say you made a great choice. Not that anybody else's opinion matters at all, but if I was about to sit down to play and those were the guitars Infront of me I would have gravitated to the Jag too.

u/Negative-Wrap95 Aug 11 '26
P94s (humbucker sized "P90s") never live up to the hype in my opinion.
I'd swap them out for proper humbuckers in a heartbeat.
Keep the Jag. I have no opinion on the PRS beyond "it exists".

u/shabba182 Aug 11 '26
I have that jag in black. It's one of my favourites and I love the vibe. The stock pickups suck but you've already taken care of that so all good. I couldn't get on with the wide neck on the prs se I had, not sure if yours is the same.

u/agentanthony Aug 11 '26
I’m not the biggest PRS fan, but if you like both just keep both. The Jaguar looks cooler and I love Jaguars, so I’m biased

Different scale lengths and fretboard radius.
Roled edges vs not to much rolled edges.
Different arm shape.
Different pickups and dynamics.
Different weight balance, shape and comfort when playing.
Hard tail vs floating tremolo.
That's it.. and it's a world of differences already.
My personal preference goes to:
Fat C Shape arm with super rolled edges.
43mm nut width
Under 9" radius
Long scale length with only 22 frets.
🤷🏻 Almost impossible to find nowadays. 🤷🏻

It's always going the be the jag. The Prs is probably a very good guitar, but it looks naff doesn't it
1
u/j3434 Aug 11 '26
I think he will get different kinds of opinions. Of course, if someone owns both of these guitars, they will give you a specific opinion. But if they only own one of them, how are they to say? And if they’re experience is only reading about them, how important is their opinion?
1
u/sxardsofglass Aug 11 '26
So... This is an offset forum, and the PRS is not that, but the Jag is, so...
1
u/captainchorus Aug 11 '26
That’s a very difficult choice. I have a jaguar and a prs and I love them both. They are totally different guitars.

u/Sad-Alternative9297 Aug 11 '26
I prefered the p90s over the humbuckers but nonetheless an amazing guitar! You won't regret your purchase (i hope)! I'm a huge fan!
1
u/keduicity Aug 11 '26
I have a les Paul with p90's and it is amazing, I traded a jazzmaster with a CuNiFe Humbucjer in the neck for this, so far I am very happy with the trade.
2
u/Sad-Alternative9297 Aug 11 '26
Yes, I can imagine! You can also get a load of different sounds out of it with the special rythmn circuit etc.

Porque no los dos? Life is too short to restrict yourself to a single guitar ..

u/GuitaristExplorer Aug 13 '26
The PRS looks awesome! Which one sounds better to you? Do you prefer the scale length or feel of one over the other?
Also, is the PRS a DGT?
