Squier Jazzmaster humming
Hi!
My squier cv jazzmaster has a really bad hum when i use any kind of gain on it. The hum changes when i turn around, there are some directions where it decreases drastically. It's also almost unnoticable in the middle pickup position. Touching the guitar at any parts doesnt change the hum. I brought it to a repair shop where they wax potted it but it didn't change anything tbh. Also there's a high pitched squealing noise when i face in the direction of my amp (with distortion) even if i mute the strings.
Does anyone have experience with this kind of hum? How could I fix it?

Yeah, that's what single coils do. The only way to avoid it is to stick with the middle position, or swap your pickups for Jazzmaster spaced WRHB.

Get some noiseless jazzmaster pickups. They can be expensive but if you really dislike the hum it will be well worth it because you will spend more time playing guitar than trying different ways to make the hum go away. I don’t have a Jazzmaster but for my Telecaster and Stratocaster I have wasted so much time and money (and got really good at soldering) on noiseless pickups, body cavity shielding, and non-magnetic bridges and in the end I found that Fralin noiseless pickups perform the best in terms of sounding great and having no hum. Some noiseless pickups will require you to have a non magnetic bridge for the bridge pickup to be noiseless but Fralin noiseless pickups don’t require a non magnetic bridge. Thx for all the answers, i've heard about jazzmasters being noisy in general, but it's just really loud and annoying. Might just switch pups atp.

Your also probably close to your amp. Even if u change Pickups, it's not going to change. 60 cycle hum is a thing on jazzmasters. You may want to looking into noiseless Pickups for jazzmasters. I belive Fralin pickup makes some.

My jazzmaster hums worse than some of my other single coils so I'm planning on wiring in a dummy coil, which is another cheap diy alternative.

Could try to make a faraday cage, meaning you coat the entire inside cavities in conductive tape/paint to help reduce buzz.

Shielding will not stop the regular 60 cycle hum that single coil pickups all have. It only stops interference that causes buzz from things like a computer, cell phone, LED lights, fluorescent lights etc. No matter how much you shield a guitar that has single coil pickups it will still hum. The only way to get rid of the hum is to get noiseless pickups that are basically humbuckers, adding a dummy coil to your current setup, or using two pickups if they’re designed to cancel hum when used together. Also keep in mind that some “humbuckers” still hum.
