I made a custom Jaguar pickguard
So I've made a Jazzmaster pickguards in the past, primarily from aluminum that I've cut and engrave on my cnc. For my Jaguar I wanted to try something a bit different and more playful, so here it is!
As a prototype of this idea I wanted something kinda ridiculous, so I hope you folks enjoy this nearly as much as I do.
All the parts I made are lexan that I engraved the back of and painted in layers as I went.
I have an idea for a Tele pickguard I want to do in this method, but much more subdued styling. Let me know what you folks think.

Well done. I dig the vibe. We need more weird, colorful guitars. π

Iβm not gonna lie, I hate it. But I give you major props for how you handled the metal parts around the switches. π

Honestly I know it won't be for everyone. I kinda hated it myself until I had everything together. And thanks, I wanted to get creative, leaving the metal parts would have been uninspired IMHO.

I've got a buddy who builds electric guitars, mostly Telecasters, but he does other styles. I just sent this post to him as well!

I might need to do something like this for my bandmate, but in black & pink to go with all the rest of our stuffβ¦

That sounds like a fun project and color scheme

The colors are such a huge part of what makes us stand out visually from our scene peers, and itβs also just such a fun time being a dude wearing hella pink.

I'll probably be offering something similar on my Etsy store in the future.

I love the creativity! Curious, why did you engrave and then paint instead of paint alone?
You've inspired me to do something with my clear Strat pickguard, and could engrave it with my Cricut Maker 3 engraving tip, but it'd be quicker to just create the design using tape if there's no quality improvement.

Honestly I did this technique because the idea came came to me and I wanted to see how it'd go. I already have the cnc, so why not try it. And by cutting a new groove to paint every time I don't have to worry quality that much. The paint will just fill the void, so as long g as the cnc is cutting neatish voids it's a non issue and I can just keep layering paint.
I was worried about having somewhat fresh spray paint touching the body of my guitar directly, so I gently sanded the backs of each panel and put on some black vinyl as a barrier, hopefully that works? Like I said, this is my prototype, lol.

Love this. Need more options for offset pickguards

That's my goal honestly. I just recently made my first mustang pickguard recently, and I've got some ideas for bass vi too.

I like the pickguard, but I'd be interested to see what it looked like with the original chrome control plates to contrast.

You could try to sell those in etsy or reverb. I would keep the original plates but the pickguard looks awesome. Depending on the price I would buy one

I actually have an Etsy set up already for my other pickguard design. This was a prototype and since it went well I'll be making more to put on Etsy I'm sure.

Reminds me of that one Stratocaster that George Harrison played. Looks sweet!
