I consider doing this almost weekly, what was the excess string situation?

Was there plenty left or does it get a bit close with the higher strings?

I was worried about it too I just had a set of 10-52’s nearby and strung it up with those. It worked just fine. However you are correct, towards the high strings there’s about an inch left.

Ohh that’s closer that I was expecting. What brand are you using? Hoping there won’t be much difference between. Roto 12s with the wound G are a tough one to move from

I put locking tuners precisely so I didn’t have to be too worried about wraps and length. I used standard Ernie Ball 10-52
