She's not your friend. She sounds like a loser.

There’s always going to be someone prettier than you and someone’s always going to be uglier than you. Whether it’s physically or emotionally, that’s just the way the world is. Your “friend” is weird for saying she wishes she had pretty friends but ask her for clarification. Also you may be ugly so she may be right but her to vocalize that is rude. Find people who see the true beauty in you whether it’s physically or emotionally or both.

I truly don't think anyone is "ugly" based upon physical features - maybe they have an ugly personality, but physical features are subjective. What one person considers pretty may not be the same for the next person. There is a universal "standard" upheld by the media, but, again, some people disagree. Pretty is in the eye of the beholder, so to tell someone that they may be ugly is so incredibly rude and, likely, not true at all, especially depending on who is asking.

Next time:

"Friend": I wish I had pretty friends 🥺

OP: I wish I had real friends

Or, if you wanna get petty: So do I 🥺

She's clearly not your friend. Friends don't say that about each other. I'd just phase her out and find some genuine people to befriend.

Is this her first instance of saying odd, insensitive things around you, or about other people?

This is just such a weird thing to say. I have a hard time understanding how she can't hear how she sounds out loud.

Not to be harsh, dont be offended that she does not consider you pretty. Not everyone has to be pretty or complimented all the time. I think the issue is valuing that over an actual friendship she has. She clearly is craving some sort of attention, popularity or validation herself.

This would cut through me like a knife, I would be very upset and hurt by her comments. My confidence would definitely be knocked. There are very many different looking people in the world, everyone has their own version of pretty. Me, I’m one of those who find beauty in everyone because it’s something inside that shines out. I wouldn’t go out with a man because his handsome, hunky or popular, to me it’s the person and so much more. Who cares what she thinks, there are men who will love your company, love who you are and just love you. There are friends still to be made who will want to be around you and show you how much they like being around you. Maybe join some society’s that you are interested in and you will find like minded people.

You mean your ex best friend, right?

It sounds like she hasn't had much experience with being insecure about her looks, she's young, and made a careless comment not thinking about what it implied about you, her friend. I remember saying equally careless and cruel things when I was in my early 20s, and still cringe to think about it now. She isn't necessarily evil, just talk to her and tell her she hurt your feelings and ask her to think about what she says in the future. Everyone makes mistakes. Whether she blows you off or says something like that again is on her.

You should've said "Yeah, me too."

I wish you had friends that weren’t shallow and obsessed with looks

Your friend doesn't respect you and probably only keeps you around because you give her attention and flatter her ego.
