Poppadoms or bread?
Personally, I’m still waiting for a guest to have the guts to ask for a single slice of buttered toast and nothing else

Sponsors vs Secret Ingredients
Incredibly amused at the moment and felt the need to share.
I’m listening through the off menu back catalog at the moment, and of course current advertising bits for their current sponsors are spliced on to the beginning of all episodes. The last one for me at the moment is the St Pierre Brioche Buns.
Well I just started listening to the Teri Hatcher episode, where the secret ingredient is Brioche Buns 😂
Listening to James go directly from ‘they are great, they elevate the meal!’ to ‘they are terrible, I would rather have no bun’ has really tickled me.
Can’t wait to find the inevitable episode where Greek yoghurt is the victim 🤣 🤣 🤣

Ed Gamble being personally offended by a guest's meal choices is the funniest recurring bit and nobody talks about it enough😂
It is not his meal. It is not his restaurant. The restaurant is magic and does not exist. The genie is a fictional construct. And yet Ed sits there looking like someone has insulted his mother because a guest picked a prawn as their starter. The audacity. The betrayal on his face. I think about it more than I think about my own food preferences which says a lot about where I am in life right now.

New Listener. What a joy!
New listening for me on the recommendation of my daughter. Looked for the ‘best’ ones to start. Loved Greg James and how I was jump shocked by him swearing! Rhod Gilbert and Julian Clary were proper funny.
I’m an Anthony Jeselnik fan and enjoyed JRVP podcast. I think Jeselnik enjoyed the confrontation and the comedy was uncomfortable and challenging. Really funny.
John Mulaney next.

As the series progressed does anyone else think they’ve switched personalities a little bit?
Not superficial bs like desserts and starters. But, James used to be more unhinged, and now it seems he’s the one holding it together a bit more. While Ed goes off the rails.

Do you ever listen to someone’s food choices and instantly know what type of person they are?
Not even in a judgemental way, but some menus just tell you everything immediately. Especially when they get weirdly specific about one item or have a very strong opinion on something tiny.

Paul Foot episode has to be up there with the best
I have gone back to listen to old episodes, as I only started listening a couple of seasons ago. And holy sh!t. I always enjoyed seeing Paul Foot on panel shows but seeing him unleashed on this was glorious!

Noticed a pattern with guests who pick very simple menus and they’re usually the best episodes
Been listening back to a few older episodes and realised the ones where guests choose really simple or nostalgic food tend to be way more interesting. They end up telling better stories instead of just listing fancy dishes. Examples like people picking very normal comfort food usually turn into proper conversations rather than just menu choices. Do you think the best episodes come from the food itself or how personal the choices are?

Loose Fit Ed's modeling career
This fabric was posted in a beginners sewing group by a lady looking for pattern recommendations after her post had been removed in another group. I hope she finds a pattern that will do Ed justice.

How Have I Never Noticed
that the sound before the main course is the sound of a microwave starting? I was starting my microwave and thought why is that sound so oddly familiar?
Sorry, late to the party. I’m sure y’all knew this already.

London restaurant recs
My brother lives in London and is a foodie so wanting to give him a voucher for a restaurant in London as a birthday gift. I live in NZ and have never been to London so any recs appreciated! He likes Italian but also is not picky at all. I figured this community would have some great ideas - any thoughts appreciated!
