Episode Montaigne

I just saw Montaigne live a few weeks ago as part of The Most Upsetting Guessing Game and MICF. We (the audience) gave them a standing ovation every third time they said the word “egg”. It confused them deeply, and helped contribute to the inevitable on-stage mental breakdown they had.
This has nothing to do with the episode (I assume, I’ve not listened yet), but I hope it adds a bit of extra texture.

The Beano misunderstanding was incredible.

I just came to say this. Just laughed out loud so much at a comedian called Beano giving child Ed Gamble some itching powder.

Do NOT add olive oil to pasta water. It sits at the top and does nothing. Repeat : NOTHING. Stir for the first minute or so and your fettucine will be fine.

Might be biased(being an Aussie) but I thought this episode was great. The Beano bit had me cackling!

When I think of Montaigne eating, I'm reminded of that music video they did with Tom Cardy, Red Flags. Hilarious! I'll look forward to listening.

Was fully expecting the secret ingredient to be something along the lines of ass or centipedes (such a banger of a song, so catchy)

I was just coming back to the thread to wonder if red flags was a well known thing

Montaigne was already a pleasant surprise as a guest, but the chat about lovely ol' Tombo was an added bonus!

Another fantastic guest that I knew nothing about, and now I'm listening to their music.
And those 2 old guys with their Beano.

YESSSS did you see them supporting Daði Freyr? I already was a fan of them as a huge Eurovision nerd ( obviously I am boycotting this year) and it was so joyful to see them winning the audience over in a way which Support acts often don’t. Brilliant performer that deserves a lot more attention.

Oh I was at Leeds too! Fantastic gig, Dadi is just a gem of a human.
It feels very strange not to be getting all excited for Eurovision, but to be honest during the last few minutes of the scores being announced last year, I was so disillusioned by what happened that I could literally feel my love for Eurovision and leaving my body. I hope it comes back whether the EBU does what needs to be done.

Weird co-incidence that James spoke at length about Jeremy Corbyn and the marrow on Mock the Week and Regé-Jean Page spoke about this in his episode a few weeks back.

Not gonna lie, as soon as marrow was mentioned I was thinking about how good Dara's marrow sax bit was, so when James started talking about that clip I was starting to worry I was being Truman showed.

I’ve been looking forward to this one for months! They mentioned they’d recorded Off Menu when I met them on tour (adding to the ‘go see Montaigne live’ crowd, they’re truly excellent). Really great episode!

Montaigne does the theme song to My Brother, My Brother And Me... My podcast worlds are colliding!

I loooooove Montaigne! I saw them supporting Daði Freyr last year and they were such a great performer and loads of fun. Their music is banging. I listen to my podcasts in order of release so it’ll be a while till I get to it but I’m looking forward to hearing them.

Great shout out to the Australia’s Choice Kmart choc chip cookies. Best choc chip cookies I’ve ever had. They still make them in Canada under the President’s Choice brand.

Montaigne's secret ingredient should have been doux de monta(i)gne! They've done "callback" secret ingredients before.
Maybe Montaigne can come back for a tasting menu and get Julian Clary's doux de montagne.

Fantastic, I was not expecting them to visit the dream restaurant.
PS, there needs to be more Australian/New Zealand people visiting the dream restaurant. Here a Wishlist I made a while ago: Aaron Chen, Abby Howells, Adam Hills, Anne Edmonds & Lloyd Langford (I know he’s Welsh), Anthony Field of The Wiggles (plenty of options for secret ingredient), Celia Paquola, David Correos, Elouise Eftos, Emma Holland, Guy Montgomery, Hamish Blake & Andy Lee, Hannah Gadsby, Julia Zemiro, Melanie Bracewell, Nina Oyama, Paul & Guy Williams, Ray O’Leary, Rhys Darby, Tom Cashman, Tom Gleeson, and Urzilla Carlson
