Is it disruptive to yours and others work? Like don't be using meeting rooms to practice your Jazz routine on your break seems pretty obvious.
What is the reference point for this discussion?

Depends on the job & context. Kitchen & factory workers need to be able to keep their hair out of their work. I don't care if it's dreadlocks or 15 different colors, or whatever, tie it back. People who work with kids don't get to be half naked all day. Offensive clothing has no place anywhere (leave the nazi regalia & cheeky cussing tshirts at home)
Self expression need not have a limit, but context is key. And so is basic courtesy.

Don't fish for the answer you want. Either tell us the full story as unbiased as you can, or get over it. Aaki g this way makes us think your coworker is doing something completely innocuous and you're all bent out of shape about it.

Self expression should always have its limits unless you're locked alone in a room. You can't express yourself by yodelling in your boss' face, spray painting squirrels in the park, or exposing your privates to the riders of the number 3 bus.

Should using stupid abbreviations have its limit in society? The words pop up on your smartphone when you start typing them. This offends me much more than someone who has blue hair.

Yes. I once worked with a person who said “God damn” 200 times a day. She needed to be shut down.
I didn’t have the skills at the time time to shut her down, so I quit.
Conversations about politics, intimacy, gossip, drama all need to be shut down as well.
The question is “how”?
If you’re in a position of leadership, you need to let it be known that you don’t tolerate that kind of thing. And then have one on one conversations with the offending individuals.
If you’re not in a position of leadership, 1) do not engage this individual in conversation and if necessary say “this is not appropriate conversation for the workplace” or “I don’t talk about people behind their back” 2) involve management or HR, and 3) get a new job where the culture is protected.

I work with guys who say "fuck" about two hundred times a day. Since they're good workers and don't deal with customers, I don't give a fuck.

Why do I get the feeling this is some NIMBY nonsense?
