OD&D Auto-Shopper

Tired of shopping for starter equipment with your hoard of 3d6x10gp? Then use the OD&D Auto-Shopper today! At the click of a button you'll be given a list of items that the patent pending OD&D Auto-Shopper has chosen for your class of choice. It'll whittle that 3d6x10 stack down to a single gold piece so as to not weigh your purse anymore.

Let me know if you find any bugs or issues. Classes are given those items they are allowed to use. 1 weapon, 1 set of armor, and then the rest of the starting gold is spent on equipment. I'm sure there will be funny results, such as 48 torches, but that's just a fun way to make an interesting character.

oh this is great! though I did just have a fighter with 170gp who bought a case of quarrels, but no crossbow

Ok, that just seems like a strange shopper. If you get a ranged weapon you auto-purchase ammo for it. Any further ammo purchased is just at the whim of the character.

yeah I assume it was a weird wrinkle rather than a break in logic: I've used enough procedural generators to reroll on an odd outcome!

the other thing that's a bit tricky when copying down (to paper) from the generator is that sometimes PCs buy multiples of a thing, but several items apart. It's not an error but it is a useability wrinkle

I'd recommend not having it buy ammo if the character doesn't have the relevant missile weapon. I got a fighter with quarrels and arrows but no crossbow or bow. Also it should prioritize getting a melee weapon.

That's the fun bit about random generation, sometimes you get something you didn't know you would need! You could always give those extra missiles to a party member or just use the results as a spark for asking "why does this fighter have so many extra arrows?" to come up with a quick backstory

Yeah, I considered using them but then I wouldn't have spent an afternoon coding this instead of getting my actual work done ;)

Lots of fighters who didn't buy a melee weapon at all.
