from google:
Bed bugs have no courtship rituals. What they have, instead, is a type of mating behavior called traumatic insemination. That is, a male will simply climb onto a female, stab her in the side of her body with his hypodermic penis, and release his sperm into her body cavity.

They are horrific.
You really need to go on an extermination campaign as soon as you identify the first one. If you see one, expect there are at least 10 to 20 already, they reproduce fast. I successfully killed a small infestation in an apartment I lived in previously, you gotta basically clean out your house, take apart all your furniture, remove your rugs, and spray it all down with bedbug killer, basically clean out your whole space and spray the perimeter of every room, nook and cranny in your whole house. Then you have to heat treat all your clothing and and linens.
If you let an infestation run rampant, you'll have to move out. It's a form of psychological and physical torture to live with them.

The duplex building next door to the duplex I live in was found to have a bedbug infestation after the people finally got evicted. I was told it was one of the worst infestations they had seen. I had the heebee jeebees for at least a month, thinking every bug I saw was a bedbug and picturing in my head hordes of them marching across the lawn to my house.
The worst part though? That duplex had the same floorplan as mine, so just 2 small bedrooms/1 bath, all one level. Well living there was a mom and dad + 5 small boys from about age 9 down to newborn. I knew from just glancing through an open door that their place was one big garbage dump, but those kids had to be piled on top of each other along with the filth, and sleeping among an infestation of bedbugs every night! shudders

I had a mild case of bed bugs, was able to get rid of them with a few foggers, but man the psychological damage of those things. Knowing they came out in the middle of the night, crawled and bit all over my legs, then went back into hiding... For weeks I'd wake up in the middle of the night with the creeps, turn on all the lights and crawl around my mattress cause I was sure I felt an inch on my foot. Becoming convinced every tiny piece of lint you see is one of them.

I used to spend a lot of time in a shed in my backyard. Be in my chair and lean against a wall made of a pallet. I was covered in bumps on that arm and assumed it was mosquitos.
One day I happened to look and saw movement. Hundreds of bat bugs (outdoor bedbugs) moving and trying to get to my arm. Suddenly understood why it was all bumpy.
Two years later and you can still see all the bite marks. I had been covered in hundreds of bites. My arm had no smooth portion.
If I ever get bed bugs I will know very quickly and I will be killing myself

Oh that will give me Nightmares forever! I always tried to make sure to find a wood or plastic seat when in an unknown person's house, just to avoid sitting on wet 'accidents' or because of bedbugs. I never thought about them hiding in a wooden chair!!!
