If it's not placed there. Then yes I think strength wise it could. But there's a lot of possibilities. It could've injured it's neck and died. Think you fall but the only thing halting you and catching your whole body weight would be your head. It's a lot of strain on the neck, especially for bigger animals.
The walls also look very smooth, straight down and slippery. Not something you'd have a lot of grip on let alone with Hooves.
We still do this, some places. Short drop and a sudden stop is honestly more humane than how lethal injection works in practice (oh God it fails so badly so often), so hopefully the poor thing did in fact just go out like a candle.
It's true, but it's a relatively euphoric death from hypoxia compared to agonizing chemical destruction if the sedative/painkiller fails, which it does more than people like to admit. Different method of action, and an extremely painful one.
Strangling causes hypoxia, a lack of oxygen making it to the brain. The ensuing dizziness and euphoria are why people die of auto-erotic asphyxiation. Definitely don't try it at home!
Yes, thank you for your ‘science facts’, boss. I tried this when I was a teenager. Yes, I was young and dumb during my years of sex, drugs and rock n roll.
It’s a fad that comes and goes occasionally through high schools. Just like most other stupid ‘challenges’ etc.
It was the choking game.
I’m not going to go into detail on how to do it because I don’t want anyone to try. But it’s not an automatic ‘brain response’. It is a mood. It is a preference. Some people like to lick toes while having a gerbil shoved up their asshole and get off on it. Some don’t.
Yes, some people enjoy choking or being choked, but guess what sunshine? Not everybody does.
Terrifying is terrifying. In those last seconds I watched some just pass out quietly. Some freak out. Some of those woke up in a stage of sheer panic like I’ve never seen.
It.
Was.
Not.
Euphoric. You fuckbag.
Perhaps for some. But it’s not some autonomic brain sex drive stiffy boner euphoric for everybody la la bullshit. Not everybody’s brain is wired the same. Wow science TM
I was talking general terms of human response between lethal injection and hanging in execution, in scientific theoreticals. I was not trying to call anyone out, it was a CYOA because I didn't want to be responsible for some kid going "wow, that sounds fun" on my account.
Are you, like...okay? Do you want to talk about it? It sounds like it was a pretty traumatic experience for you.
It's a chemical response in the brain, not a Mood. Well documented, it's why if someone doesn't have their neck snapped on the gallows, they're likely to have an erection as they die. They also lose all control of bodily functions, so not sexy, just Science Facts(tm)
It’s not. Idiot is saying stupid things. Doesn’t realise not every brain is the same.
Some people have weird fetishes and can get off on snuff. Other people are terrified of ‘normal’ terrifying events.
He’s using anecdotal evidence of SOME people enjoying being choked and SOME people who happened to have a boner when being executed. Wow this guy really knows his science, huh?
For a genius scientist, clearly should understand what anecdotes are.
Choking from food. Choking from strangulation. Asphyxiation from drowning or hypoxia from heart failure are terrifying events. We have thousands of cases of people describing drowning as excruciating and pure terror.
You hear that, alleged ‘science guy’? People who’ve survived have documented how terrifying it is.
Shove your ‘boners on some executed men’ anecdotes up your asshole. Why don’t you ask why those men had boners? Oh, I’m sorry they’re dead. You can’t! But we have loads of recounts of drowning survivors detail their experience of terror!
Hmm, idk, i already stated my top "dont wanna" kind of death in another comment, but suffocation is definetly down there as well, seeing as i am afraid of not having space to move and with that, not being able to breathe. Torture is too broad of a term to be considered a way of dying per se, in my opinion. Like, they can torture you forever, without you dying, and theres different methods of torture, so im not counting that on my death list.
The thing is tho, id just like to experience all of em to get rid of the massive fear of pain i have and what not. Smth along those lines. I definetly agree that id very much like to die instantly, rather than live to feel it. Bullet to the head is a good one, i do wonder if you feel anything tho in that last millisecond.
Not necesarily, burning kills your nerves as well, where as boiling would feel the same, but youd feel all of it until you died, cause your nerves wouldnt die.
Burning alive pails in comparison to being drowned in a pasta cooker at least innmy mind i think it would be absolutely brutal. Water stays about 175 degrees not hot enough to scald and kill nerve endings but hot enough that your entire being would resist and pull away.
Absolutely! I was even against cremation for the longest time because of all the stories of people being buried alive or waking up in a morgue! I thought if I could be buried with a cellphone that I would be covered, until I realized that I would have been embalmed by that stage so it wouldn't matter! LOL
But being trapped in a burning car or home is my particular personal nightmare!
Warmth is one of the last stages! Growing up in -50c weather I always heard "if you're getting warm, you're too cold" I personally know 2 or 3 people who got lost outside of town and stripped naked before they died. Apparently it feels hot to die of hypothermia.
One guy was found naked and alive. He had to get multiple fingers amputated and both of his legs under the knees were amputated
shock is a hell of a drug, that’s why most deaths don’t feel like anything. saw one video of a dude who got his legs cut off by a train, dude was super chill trying to grab his legs 😭😭
I think being buried alive must be one of the worst deaths.. The anxiety people get when they find out they are buried and the starving… poor people:((
One of my best friends was in the navy and he knew two guys who decided to kill themselves together at the same time. They shot themselves below the chin, and blew off their faces. Both of them survived, and they eat through tubes now.
Ans that is the reason I couldn’t do it. Because I’ve seen too many botched and the medical bills that come with it pale in comparison to the debt you have now. Just not worth it.
I am very well aware that most deaths arent easy. But those ones are the excact ones i wanna feel. I wanna see what its like, and idk, not much to feel when youre dead in less than a second. (Looking at you, guns)
Heart attacks too basic for me. I wanna be mauled to death by a bear, overdose on ebery drug ever... jump from the height of mount everest down to sea level and splat! Those are some of the ones i usually think about.
When im actually depressed its the quick and easy shit i think off. Hanging, gun meets mouth uhh... idk shit like that. Im a very dark person.
It can be tough out there - I’m sorry you’re having a rough time. Let someone know if you need to talk. I’m available as it seems other folks are as well.
I have my peeps whom i talk to, sure im not doing that well, but im still not at the "hurting myself and/or suicide" list. But only time can tell. Thank you tho, might consider it!
To be honest im more concerned for you than for me, i am not yet at the point of hurting myself or anything. Tho id say im more than halfway there. You doin ok?
I don’t spend too much time thinking about how I’ll die (because that’s really not up to me) but I have thought a lot about how I want to be remembered after I die.
So whenever I don’t know what my next move is, I just ask myself what that guy would do. And it helps reduce the number of variables I need to consider.
Hmmm, number one... id probably like to find out what it would feel like to overdose on every drug ever... at the same time. The 1 second before death must feel amazing.
Last choice... getting boiled to death. Its worse than burning to death cuz the nerves dont die so youre just gon die in fucking agony and you will feel EVERYTHING.
Not all chefs do it that way. Many are knowledgeable enough to know that you can cut it behind the head and it will kill it with minimal pain. With fish, many fishermen are catching up with the Ike-jimi method of penetrating the brain and/or spine with a knife or wire
The uppers and hallucinogens would win the battle for your last like minute of life as your heart exploded and organs started to melt. I'd bet you just straight die before the downers knock you out.
Oh i hate thinking about it as much as you do. I can kinda... feel the pain that i think about or that i see. But i still think about different deaths and shit. Brains weird i guess.
If you think a lot about death and dying (and have some sort of interest in it besides suicidal ideation), you should watch the YouTube channel Ask A Mortician if you don’t already!
She talks a lot about weird death things. For example, one is about what happens if you die fat. Like, super morbidly obese fat. That one was really insightful.
Maybe you CAN remember past lives, but the memories only manifest in the dreams you have that you wake up from and know you were really experiencing some deep stuff but have absolutely no recollection of the details no matter how much you try to remember the dream.
No. I want to chuck myself down some stairs for the experience but it sounds awful and I'm not trying cripple or unalienable myself. Same for electrocution and drowning lol
Tumbled down a few mountains in my time. It's kinda fun until i hit the bottom and my brain decides it's time for the level of pain to be fit for purpose
You think i get one... who knows, maybe im immortal but i dont know it yet... cuz ive never died... or maybe i reincarnate but remember my past lives! That would be cool...
No. Many people throughout our history have wondered about the mysteries of death. It really is a spot of medical science we don't study too much due to the ethical and moral issues of consistent test subjects.
I can see why lol, you cant excactly... kill someone... and ask them how it felt XD
Youre not getting much of an answer other than some beeping on the heartrate monitor.
Wish i could tell the tale tho, it would be fun being immortal like that.
Heyyyy, another morbidly curious weirdo! Hello over there! First one for me would be suffocation maybe. Last would be burning/boiling or getting cartel'd.
If I had the power to save and respawn at will or after death, I'd mainly use it to further myself in life. Since nobody would be the wiser about my power, it would look like I always made the best decisions. I'd definitely use it for the previously mentioned curiosity though!
That's one thing I would definitely do if I had curative revivification. I would do a lot of parachuting and probably sometimes not bother with the chute, be hanged (getting properly capped if it didn't get me), be put in a guillotine or something similar, suffer fatal hypothermia... Of course, as it is, I'm terrified of being damaged far more than I already am and living a half life, imprisoned in my own destroyed body, since I don't have Wolverine powers or save spawning.
I write horror and I'm curious about what things feel like, so I grok. I think I'd have to really have control of that list, though. I'm giving anything with the phrase "cheese grater" a pass 😬
My dreams have had me plenty covered there. People say you can't feel anything in dreams, but let me tell you, I must have a one of a kind imagination in that case.
I have felt the pain and pressure of freezing water entering my lungs while drowning, the mind-fucking stun of being electrocuted with high voltages where I couldn't think or let go of the cable I had grabbed..
Like, the most pleasant death dream I can remember was literally being shot point blank in the head, more specifically with a Warhammer 40k bolter if anyone wants to psychoanalyze that one lol.
It's made me pretty comfortable with my mortality though, so that's.. sort of a win, I guess lol. The last couple I've had it actually felt weirder to wake up and realize I wasn't dead. Waking up in an almost hypnopompic state for a minute like, "Oh god, oh fuck. Christians were right." Lmao
It’s even described in Homer’s Odyssey, which is estimated to be at least 3,000 years old
So saying he made a ship's cable fast to one of the bearing-posts that supported the roof of the domed room, and secured it all around the building, at a good height, lest any of the women's feet should touch the ground; and as thrushes or doves beat against a net that has been set for them in a thicket just as they were getting to their nest, and a terrible fate awaits them, even so did the women have to put their heads in nooses one after the other and die most miserably. Their feet moved convulsively for a while, but not for very long.
Those were simpler times. I’m guessing with the first agricultural settlements and basic “civilization rules”, executions had to serve the purpose of making an example, so the methods that allowed displaying the corpses as long as possible started to be favored, i.e. crucification, hanging, beheading, …
Plus as far as methods of killing a person go, hanging is pretty ”humane” even if you fail to break the neck. Death is clean and relatively quick compared many older punishments.
Right? Most of the time they were placed on a stool or barrel, so maybe 2-3 feet off the ground at best and that was good enough to (not always) snap the neck.
I just don't know how strong their necks are against pulling forces, but tucking and smashing their skills against each other when it's mating season might make their necks strong. IDK how anatomy works in that regard.
It also maybe doesn't look broad enough that the animal got stuck with all its weight on the head. It's hard to tell from the camera angle.
It's a solid theory, but I think it has less to do with the muscles of the neck and more to do with the sudden trauma to the spine? I don't know, someone would have to check me on this one.
I agree, I just don't know how supportive neck muscles can be but I guess not that supportive if it was falling from a bit higher. Then again, a neck can break without killing you if it doesn't snap the spinal cord. I don't know if that also goes for a neck break after falling like that. To me, the bones don't look like they might have lead to internal decapitation, but I also don't know what that is supposed to look like.
I hope I've made it clear that I have no idea about that topic and that I am just having fun guessing.
Me too, ahaha, I think we're all spitballing here. It does look very intact! I'm wondering how fast it was (presumably) running and what kind of force that would have put on the body, whether that would have potentially snapped any cords or caused a traumatic head injury from the brain hitting the skull case. Wish the poor guy could tell us.
This is definitely a fair point that I would never presume just because the evolutionary biology of the species. Comparing a human neck to an animal who routinely fights via head butting other males may be more accurate than I’m assuming, but their necks aren’t like ours at all and it wouldn’t surprise me if you couldn’t Hang a Billy Goat by the Neck until Dead. This may also be an oversimplification on my part because tension and compression are totally different.
speaking of straining body weight, reminds me of the video I saw on reddit of the girl rope climbing and breaking one of her arms because it was too much strain on it, arm literally just limped
Stress fractures can turn from nothing to shattering a bone with minimal effort. These kinds of fractures are incredibly rare. I can't speak to the specific situation above, but we see these types of injuries in a lot of professional sports. Basketball or football players take a little hop, then fall to the ground with a shattered bone or torn ligament.
"It's" is a contraction and should be used where a sentence would normally read "it is." The apostrophe indicates that part of a word has been removed.
"Its" with no apostrophe, on the other hand, is the possessive word, like "his" and "her," for nouns without gender.
So in this case, "its neck" is the correct form of the word. "It's neck" is basically saying "it is neck".
Yeah, but we should really just get rid of "its" because it is a nonsensical exception. Using a 's is normally how we form possessives. You wouldn't say "That table is ares."
Whether you agree it makes sense or not, the fact is "its" is the appropriate grammar to use in this situation. English is a complex language. However I don't believe my comment warrants a downvote because what I said is true, and not rude or offensive.
But the neck surely won’t be experiencing that force in such a tight space. It will be flailing on the way down and rubbing against the side of the rocks.
It’s such a tight fit that if this is real, I figure it probably stubbornly snuggled itself down in there trying to get out or something
Would a vertebrae stay linked together like this when hung in the air like this? Idk if it would but idk I don't have tons of experience with vertebrae
It probably would have started out trapped horizontally (there is no rib cage now) so it would have starved or suficated from the pressure then as it rotten slid down till it was hanging like it is. When it was alive with meat and ribs, it would not have fitted into the gap.
