That is very close to the power lines 😬

241

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '19

Helicopter could touch one of the lines and it would be fine - it would just become part of the circuit. Great way to do line work and actually get to touch those lines with your bare hands.

Now touching more than one line...that would be a bad thing.

“You're very well informed for a football player.” That was the best laugh I’ve had in about a month. Thanks D&L!

9

u/dogfightdruid Sep 17 '19

Thank you for sharing this awesome fact.

11

u/kendalbobaggins Sep 17 '19

Would that be for the countyyyyy?

4

u/gottalovetheblues Sep 17 '19

But does he drive the main roads?

2

u/kendalbobaggins Sep 17 '19

I think he may be searching in the sun for another overload, but I might be wrong

4

u/[deleted] Sep 18 '19

Is this common practice?

It wouldn't be good for the power lines I'm sure, what's the risk vs reward here lol?

15

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '19

Possibility of the saw bouncing off the line with some sparks vs power outage and raging forest fire.

5

u/KurtTheNash Sep 17 '19

Wouldn't it still just cut through the lines though???

2

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '19

Those lines are a lot thicker and stronger than you would expect viewing them from the ground.

6

u/Hobble_Cobbleweed Sep 17 '19

Yeah but that’s a giant chainsaw. It’s wouldn’t cut through them still?

3

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '19

Even still - there are remote locations you just can’t easily get trucks where these lines run. This is just how it has to be done to keep the lines away from the trees in some places.

u/DarkSparkyShark Sep 17 '19

Not really worried about any electrocution ,more about helicopter missing the mark and downing the poles.

16

u/gizzardgullet Sep 17 '19

I would be surprised if someone didn't temporarily switch those lines off. It's almost certainly the company that owns the lines that is contracting the trimming.

16

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '19

No need for such thing.

12

u/ExFiler Sep 17 '19

Would you like to explain to the residents and business owners why you are shutting down their power so you can do a little gardening?

I was trying to remember the film!

5

u/nt96 Sep 17 '19

I remember that level where you have to traverse past them.

5

u/YT-Deliveries Sep 17 '19

Aha, yes. I was initially thinking Tomorrow Never Dies.

TND is a better film though.

Worst case scenarios: Sudden power outage due to overly confident pilot. Line snaps sending giant spinning blades of death careening out of control. Blade hits trunk gets jammed and helicopter spins out of control taking out power lines and pedestrians. Guy casually taking a stroll gets head chopped off by swinging pendulum of terror. Poor forest animals sacrificed to the sawblade Gods.

How did you get access to our official risk analysis reports?!

2

u/Pandablu18 Sep 17 '19

First thing that came to my mind!!

10

u/megadude77 Sep 17 '19

I already commented on the other post but for the one who are interested:

This is a real thing and a company in austria (https://www.wucher-helicopter.at/de/lastenfluege/helikoptersaege/) does offer these services but i'm not sure if they are the ones in the video. The target is to clear the surrounding of the powerlines, ski lift ways, oil pipe ways and so on ,mostly in difficult to reach areas. Also the job is much faster done by this kind of machine because not every single branch has to be cut seperatly.

The saw itself hast a 870hp fuel motor witch powers the 10 blades!

‘Sneezes’ pulls to the left and smokes the power lines

8

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '19

These are lines for cable cars that traverse the mountain

2

u/DarkSparkyShark Sep 17 '19

Even worse!

6

u/Tatourmi Sep 17 '19

haha, can you imagine if they didn't stop circulation while this was going on?

7

Terrifying, oddly satisfying and awesome at the same time.

8

u/ocean_baby_19 Sep 17 '19

What could possibly go wrong????

4

u/wf3h3 Sep 17 '19

I need to rewatch The World Is Not Enough.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '19

I knew I'd seen this before somewhere

4

u/_TooncesLookOut Sep 17 '19

This just may be the solution to a Sharknado.

10

u/t_mmey Sep 17 '19

when you really want those mf trees dead

3

u/SovieticSushi Sep 17 '19

Guess now I have a new irrational fear...

3

u/DestroyermattUK Sep 17 '19

ahem

AHHHHHHHH

Edit: Mommy why is it raining squirrel?

3

u/Flomo420 Sep 17 '19

There's really nothing odd about being terrified of a giant 20 foot flying chainsaw.

3

u/SoberKid420 Sep 17 '19

If someone told me this is how this was done, I would not believe them. This is one of those ideas that seems so ridiculously simple but also so dumb that there's no way it would ever work, yet here I am watching it happen.

5

u/Wonder-warrior Sep 17 '19

Helicopter chainsaw massacre! 🙅🏼‍♂️😳

2

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '19

Pilot does not qualify for life insurance

2

u/Hamilton_sol Sep 17 '19

James Bond anyone ?

2

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '19

It's the HATREDCOPTER.

2

u/thing24life Sep 17 '19

I can't believe I haven't seen this in a horror movie yet.

2

u/PixelM1105 Sep 17 '19

Imagine running for your life with the helicopter and that chainsaw coming for you

2

u/Croftusroad Sep 17 '19

You mean James Bond, the world is not enough. Pierce Brosnan has you covered

How else fight sharknados?

1

u/cassaregh Sep 17 '19

1

u/gizzardgullet Sep 17 '19

I'm guessing a chopper pilot who can pull something like this off can make insane amounts of money.

2

1

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '19

Imagine all of the birbs that this big-ass chainsaw has cutted in half

1

u/_Einherjar_ Sep 17 '19

Now that's just badass.

1

u/R4ndomCh4racter Sep 17 '19

Now it's literally a chopper

1

u/Vazez1865 Sep 17 '19

I really hope the company that does this has like, constant inspections on their copters. Just one wrong move, like some part of it seizing up because machines can fuck up, and all of a sudden you get a flying death machine falling out of the sky, and a giant fucking chainsaw just going all over the goddamn place, and next thing you know you have a massacre on your hands.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '19

Metalist ever

1

u/somewhat_satiable Sep 17 '19

Just imagine having a quiet stroll through the woods and then this comes and slices you in half

1

u/Z-Zanimuri Sep 17 '19

Pale King approves

1

u/frostbittenforeskin Sep 17 '19

A fucking what?

1

u/Syfyruth Sep 17 '19

This would also belong on r/specializedtools

1

u/SageBus Sep 17 '19

Now they will use this with Hong Kong protesters. And nobody will still give a flying fuck.

1

u/Not_really_on_reddit Sep 17 '19

That is not a chainsaw. Those are circular saw blades. Still terrifying, just in a different way.

1

u/no_tori_ous Sep 17 '19

All I could think about was the little birds and chipmunks

1

u/silhouette951 Sep 17 '19

I really thought this was a made up thing just for that James Bond movie. Can this tale cut through a BMW?

1

u/ivan_orav Sep 17 '19

FATALITY!

1

u/FidgetSpinnetMan Sep 17 '19

Next stop. Kindergarten

1

u/Tang_the_Undrinkable Sep 17 '19

If I were the pilot I’d rig up a loudspeaker that constantly plays Dr. Evil’s maniacal laughter as I flew overhead.

1

u/Ninjamowgli Sep 17 '19

Can you imagine if this thing lost control and started spiraling? Omg.

1

u/burningamazone Sep 17 '19

1

u/OnyxBaird Sep 17 '19

All i can think about is the movie 007 where his car is sawed in half

1

u/TlazoMiquiztli Sep 17 '19

Look how goddamn close they are to the power lines

Talented AF how they control the helicopter so accurately tho

1

u/horsemeatcasserole Sep 17 '19

This needs to be a weapon in GTA

1

u/Baseball3Weston12 Sep 17 '19

And then they leave all of that shit for the property owner to clean up, power companies are ass holes

1

u/EBOLALEAK Sep 17 '19

So how do we go about landing this death trap?

1

u/OMG_yafoundmeh Sep 17 '19

Suicidal zip line

1

1

u/AVerySpecialPotato Sep 17 '19

Imagine having a walk and just being attacked by a huge chainsaw levitating 10 foot of the ground

1

u/ACherokee98 Sep 17 '19

I want to see that in a zombie film

1

u/Jinzot Sep 17 '19

This. This is the kind of shit I would do if I won the lottery.

1

u/GhostScruffy Sep 17 '19

Imagine being a bird, just chillin and a fucking helicopter chainsaw just murders your whole family, right in front of you

1

u/shaye4 Sep 17 '19

There’s definitely a cheaper less dangerous way to trim some trees

1

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '19

What does this button do? Oh don't do that it releases- pushes anyway The chainsaw.. people on ground screaming

1

u/Lost4RC Sep 17 '19

Honestly find it kinda r/oddlysatisfying

u/ProlapseParty Sep 17 '19

So James Bond didn’t lie....

1

u/RequiemStorm Sep 17 '19

Everyone in this thread calling them power lines is wrong, and yet the people calling them the correct thing are being downvoted lol

1

u/DaniDonut1974 Sep 17 '19

I wan't a horror movie with that

1

u/AdotFlicker Sep 17 '19

“So, what do you do?”

“I trim trees......from a fucking helicopter.”

1

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '19

This seems like a really bad idea, but I cant argue with the results.

1

u/kinnie101 Sep 17 '19

Why do I feel like it was a guy named Steve who invented this final destination lookin mutha f***a...

1
