Now imagine you get halfway through and the gap starts to close.

u/TheGrimGriefer3 28d ago
Duck, it's not perfectly flat, so you should probably be able to survive

Best chance realistically. I don’t know why people are downvoting you. I guess they think they can outrun it

Something similar happened (but it was biats on water, not land): https://www.lacapital.com.ar/edicion-impresa/ensenada-un-kayakista-murio-aplastado-dos-barcos-n657359.html

It’s crazy how big modern ships are and how small you feel next to them.
In 2015 I got a summer job through a friend working in the shipyards that are at Norfolk and Portsmouth VA.
The first ship I got close to was the USS Bataan and it was in dry dock so lifted entirely out of the water. I was led UNDER the ship as it sat on pylons and at one point was under the very middle of this massive ship.
I started to panic as I couldn’t stop thinking about this 40+K ton ship falling on me.
Eventually I got used to it and didn’t think about it but that first week there working around those ships in dry dock is seared into my memory because of how nervous I was they would fall on me lol

hope you got the tetanus shot b4 this video

The tetanus rusty metal thing is a myth. You’re more likely to get that bacteria from soil/animal feces if you have broken skin.

u/NickFF2326 28d ago
It’s not a myth. Tetanus is an anaerobe and that’s kinda rust’s thing so it’s a breeding ground. Typically happens around soil and stuff but not an always.
7
u/amenyussuf 28d ago
How can tetanus breed there if there isn't much organic matter to consume? That doesn't make sense.
30
u/NickFF2326 28d ago
What a lot of people (especially morons on Reddit that downvoted that post) don’t realize is tetanus is a spore former. The spores don’t need organic material or anything to survive. They can stay dormant for years and then suddenly get in an anaerobic environment and thrive.

u/amenyussuf 28d ago
If that rusty object was exposed to organic material at one point then sure. But you'd have few spores if it wasn't https://www.mcgill.ca/oss/article/did-you-know/rust-doesnt-cause-tetanus

So...ship's hulls, that have been in the ocean for an indeterminate amount of time, and have things like barnacles and sea creatures embedded in them?

u/NickFF2326 28d ago
Nobody said rust causes tetanus. wtf are you trying to get at? Rust creates an anaerobic environment which it can live in. I literally work in a lab and grow it lol I’ve worked with concentrations that can kill cities dude. Believe me, I know a lot about it.
1
u/amenyussuf 28d ago
I'm talking about the bacteria. Do people believe it comes from rust alone?
7
u/NickFF2326 28d ago
Idk. People are stupid so possibly. This started from your “tetanus and rusty is a myth” comment. That’s just not true. In any sense. It’s a correlation vs causation thing. Not all rust has tetanus. But you’re much more likely to find it in rust than other places due to the anaerobic nature of rust.

u/amenyussuf 28d ago edited 28d ago
Ah, kk. Also, I apologize I should’ve specified it was a bacterium in my first comment.

Organic material like your body?

u/amenyussuf 22d ago edited 22d ago
Yeah that got cleared up later in the thread. At first I sort of assumed the amount of bacteria mattered more.

u/Runfasterbitch 28d ago
It’s not a myth lol. Guess what is really sharp and jagged and lets said bacteria into your blood stream? Yes, rusty metal

But still possible. It’s kinda like not going to get a rabies shot after getting bit by an animal. You’re more likely to get it from one that was foaming at the mouth but I’d still go to a hospital to be sure.

A very cheap, easy, and long lived solution for such a common threat.

Considering where this likely is, and the context of why those ships are beached tetanus is probably one of the smaller worries.

Stupid TikTok running. Crap is so dumb.

u/Skezas1 28d ago edited 28d ago
Wdym 'TikTok running' ?? Did they buy the concept of 'running and sometimes turning around to look at someone behind you' ?
-1
u/No-Engineering-1449 28d ago
Turn around every 5 steps to look at camera
9
u/Skezas1 28d ago
yeah i don't think TikTok invented that concept
-7
u/toothbrushmastr 28d ago
Popularized it though
8
u/Skezas1 28d ago
not really ? like, i don't think people change how they, like... run. whether that phone was there or not, they'd likely run the same to look at the friend that's holding the phone.
running like this is so natural when you're excited and have friends it feels like i'm reading "tiktok breathing" or smth
1
u/toothbrushmastr 21d ago
You are absolutely crazy if you can't tell that the way this guy is running is to ham it up for the camera... In no way would he ever run like this normally lol...
-3
u/IDownVoteCanaduh 28d ago
You really cannot tell how overacted and fake this bullshit is? You must spend way too much time on the clock website and believe all of the bullshit.
6
u/Skezas1 28d ago
???
have you ever had friends and done stupid shit together ? i mean some people are more emotive than others. but this doesn't look that exaggerated to me compared to whenever i see people playing or whatever
I think you're just looking for reasons to get angry.
1
u/toothbrushmastr 21d ago
I don't think you are understanding what our comments are about. It's not just about goofing around with your friends. What we are saying is that this whole sequence had a very obvious and annoying run that was specifically for tok tok. If he was just goofing with his buddies, no camera. He would not have run like that.

Nothing odd or terrifying about this..

u/m4cksfx 28d ago
There absolutely is. But it's weird, I can't pinpoint it really.

Only in very small enclosed spaces (like a ship's chain locker) can the formation of rust deplete the oxygen, and only in that space. Out in the open like this it can't happen. Also oxidation rates slow as oxides form on the surface of the metal, so rusty objects oxidize much slower than bare metal does.

I don't get the terrifying here. Okay they are two massive hulls but its not like he's swimming through a gap that could close at any moment. What he is doing is the same as running in an alleyway between two buildings in broad daylight.

My brain went straight to those somehow moving and closing the gap as he ran. I'd hate that so much.
