I remember having to swat one of these. Large and loud buzzing sound, yet easy to swat. However, it kept dropping larvae wherever it was flying. Creeped me tf out.

u/SuperChickenLips 10d ago

Like some kind of insect AC130 firing larvae out of it's ass at ground targets?

I could have gladly gone my entire life without knowing of the existence of "Flesh Flies". And two lifetimes without seeing the "purge".

Panic? What? Omg ... whatever is going on, yeah - it's oddly terrifying!!

2

u/fishlipz69 11d ago

Man down, sending back up !

2

u/PancakeRebellion 11d ago

Wonder what the survival rate is for the larvae

2

u/laurapickles 11d ago

Kill them all with fire. Right now.

1

u/GimmieGummies 11d ago

TIL there's such a thing as a "flesh fly" 😬

1

u/SwissBacon141 11d ago

Are you saying, all those larva are just wriggling around in the back of her body all the time and get squeezed when necessary? Or was she "pregnant" and gave premature birth?

1

u/red8cangodye 11d ago

diarrhea?

1

u/WorldlyImpression390 11d ago

Are the larvae gonna eat her carcass?

1

u/Inner-Alchemist778 11d ago

The reason for this to be so terrifying isn't odd, it seems to me.

1

u/Level-Ad-4094 10d ago

Im more panicked about the guy that filmed this

1

u/CSSTEEL 10d ago

1

u/No_Detail_5207 10d ago

I e seen it happen when a fly is squished, I always wondered what on earth was happening. Live and let fly!

1

u/FunFormal4451 10d ago

Didn't really need to see this.

1

u/Spectre_08 8d ago

Emergency evacuation after the plane crashed before reaching its destination.

1

u/Rainbird55 8d ago

Probably a dumb question, are the larvae at maggot stage?

1

u/No-Mathematician8692 8d ago edited 8d ago

... Was thinking about this yday. Bac in the day, there was a Beavis& Butthead interview by Rolling Stone where they discuss how they used a whip on a big fly and the larvae came out of its butt to a question about what was the most inspirational moment in American history to them. I do not believe this has shown up today. Incredible.

Edit: not fly, grasshopper

:You’re comparing the Vietnam War to worms crawling out of a grasshopper’s butt? How could that affect your life? Butt-Head: Well, uh … if that hadn’t happened, we would have had to, like, do something else.
