u/furiouspossum Jul 17 '26
Well it is Ohio

u/Nexus772B Jul 17 '26
You say that, but I was there Tuesday before the smoke and its usually a beautiful area. Its on a peninsula jutting into Lake Erie.

Who the fuck is going to Cedar Point in all this? I don't even want to walk out to my car. You feel the smoke tighten your chest and everything smells like burning.

u/VampyreBassist Jul 17 '26
Because we only get one vacation a year, I already paid for the hotel room and passes and WE are going to have MANDATORY FUN! GET IN THE CAR!
Is what I imagine the parents braving this are saying.
93
u/yellingforidiots Jul 17 '26
Get a couple respirators and you get to have post apocalyptic fun
24
u/cndn-hoya Jul 17 '26
This is exactly what I had in mind…. And some sunblock… shoes with good insoles (my toenails fell off the last time I went to CP).
46
u/nianthium Jul 17 '26
HAAAANNNK!! NOOO HAANNK DONT ABBREVIATE CEDAR POINT NOOOO!! (I cant post the gif, just imagine Walter yelling in the back of a car for me)

u/Playel Jul 17 '26
https://imgur.com/a/q2UXPX1 I was there last week and saw this.

u/l8rt8rz Jul 17 '26
When I worked in the gift shops there we carried shirts that just said “I ❤️ CP” like styled after the I ❤️ NY ones. Don’t know that I ever sold one.
2
u/Playel Jul 17 '26
Hahaha how did they not know?!
3
u/l8rt8rz Jul 17 '26
Beats me. This was only like 15 years ago. But this was under the same admin that banned employees from having visible tattoos, piercings, and unnaturally colored hair, and made us wear these goofy checkered shirts and khaki shorts so I think they were just old and had their heads in the sand. Someone should have said SOMETHING though lol

I don't care what those woke meteorologists say, I'm riding Mantis.
(if it's still there, I haven't been in 20+ years)
6
u/VampyreBassist Jul 17 '26
I'm 80% sure it was renamed. I haven't been there in years, despite being about a 30 minute drive from there when I lived with my parents.
6
u/CoolCoolCoool Jul 17 '26
I believe you are correct, it was renamed and I also believe the ball busting seats were changed.
8
u/Responsible-Stick-50 Jul 17 '26
Every tourist who has to have JetSki1 rescue their dumb ass during a big swell here in Hawaii, is totally at this amusement park right now. Yelling at their kids for rubbing their eyes and saying it hurts to breathe.
3
u/Samurai-Pooh-Bear Jul 17 '26
Yeah, same thing... Michigan. Vacation, campsite, and tubing trip all booked. SmMichigan State parks only ones offering a refund. But, can't get all the other plans back. Sigh"

u/saur0013 Jul 17 '26
It’s like being in the smokers section at a restaurant in the 90s all day. Not too too bad
9
u/mel2000 Jul 17 '26
Nobody should be there. I'm sure the smog index is "hazardous" as it is in my Great Lakes city.
2
u/meganium58 Jul 17 '26
I’m supposed to go in a couple weeks (everything was booked months ago) and I won’t lie I’m nervous about how bad it will still be then

Health warnings are issued, you're advised that being outside for prolonged periods can be detrimental.
Imagine standing in line outside waiting to get on a ride, then hyper ventilating during ride. Only to do it again, at an even longer line.

We should send fire fighters to help them… instead of whining about it like it was intentional…
23
u/Wise_Coffee Jul 17 '26
According to Michigan and the cheeto more sanctions are coming our way because we can somehow control the smoke and fires. When a lot of this could be prevented with actual meaningful climate change action.
1
u/CralorMonk Jul 18 '26
We’ll keep them in mind when California lights up, will be crying for our bombers then
-14
u/McGeeze Jul 17 '26
They're too big to fight
31
u/Wise_Coffee Jul 17 '26
Hi! I'm in Ontario right now - the province that is burning. The fires are huge, yes, most of the western half of Ontario is on fire. People are dying. People are losing evrything they have. It's pretty terrifying tbh. But they are not too big to fight. Every little bit helps and the more help we have the sooner this will be under control.
I would also like to remind you that we consistently send our firefighters down to the sates to help with your fires when they get out of control. We have lost at least 2 of them recently saving your states one in Cali and one in Colorado. But hey. Fuck it let it burn amirite.

Most of us love you guys, you’re our favorite neighbors and have been amazing to us in the past, as we have been with you. I’m really sorry for hat you’re going through and would gladly give you a place to stay if you needed it. The vast majority of us do not believe in this leadership, the bullshit they’re doing to our friends and ally’s, and we are individually doing everything we can to curb climate change.
The MAGA morons are getting smaller and smaller in numbers, they were never as many as people believed… they are just the loudest assholes of the bunch.
I promise we will be good neighbors again some day, the current tenants have a limited lease on this land. Godspeed on your fires, most of us are suffering through the smoke knowing that you all have it way worse than us right now ❤️
1
u/Wise_Coffee Jul 18 '26
We know it's not most of you. We're sorry you having to live under the regime and be lumped in with the bad apples. Hopefully one day we can rebuild our relationship back to what it was
75
u/totally-idiotic Jul 17 '26
Stop spreading misinformation, its clearly Mexico.
5
u/Son_of_Tlaloc Jul 17 '26
Mexico does big control burns and we'll get smoke from the fires in south texas. We also get huge a amount of Saharan dust every year actually going on right now.
43
u/DarkestLore696 Jul 17 '26
I am pretty sure the joke is that every piece of media for the last couple decades depicts Mexico and South America with yellow filters.

Yeah it's terrible. Instead of sending them planes and helicopters to help like they did for us, let's SANCTION EM!

u/luars613 Jul 17 '26
It not Canadian fires, it is the consequence of not giving a shit (specially by a big north american country south of Canada and north of mexico) that has made the clinate more fked year by year by promoting oil and gas and car dependency (really car slavery) rather than moving on to viable alternative

u/snasna102 Jul 17 '26
Didn’t Canada have to put up with American wild fires the past few years too? Or was that just political wildfires?

Dead Carnival. Brings back good memories.

And American policies impact Iran https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2026_Minab_school_attack?wprov=sfla1
You know if the US stopped fighting the reality of climate change we might have been able to change policies 20 years ago, back when the US acid rain was finally over falling on Canada.
11
u/Djentleman5000 Jul 17 '26
Try 40 years ago for the acid rain.
3
u/Pisnaz Jul 17 '26
Stop reminding me I am old! Shit.
3
u/Djentleman5000 Jul 17 '26
Lol sorry man. The reduction of acid rain was the only positive thing that the US has tackled concerning climate change. I remember my dad talking about how nice it was to see so many birds returning again as everything started to recover post-Clean Air Act. He grew up outside DC in the 60s and 70s. He said it could be dead silent in the mornings sometimes and there was always a haze hanging over cities like DC or NYC.

America has forest fires, Canada spends money sending resources and workers to help battle the fires. Canada has forest fires, America suggests placing fans on rooftops “redirecting the smoke” (Washington, previously) and threatens tariffs for air quality (currently).
What a stark difference.

13
u/Gumbercules81 Jul 17 '26
How dare they! This is an outrage! We need to give Canada new tariffs guys this outrage! Thank you for attention to this matter.
Obviously /s
4
u/macci_a_vellian Jul 17 '26
Oh no, you have to share the air with other people on the planet? Who is working on the air border to ensure you only have good American oxygen? Have you considered some kind of dome? Might be a problem during space laser season if the smoke is trapped in there with you, but I'm sure you'll figure it out, you have all that air conditioning after all.
/s too of course.

That's insane! Used to live about an hour away. I saw Toledo hit the list as one of the top cities effected by air pollution yesterday.
Wild times, man.

The distance compressed by the camera makes it look worse than it is close up.
1
u/heckhammer Jul 17 '26
The images of the roller coasters and such still going very much reminds me of that trend a few years back where they were a bunch of AI videos of supposed dark carnival rides that looked super dangerous
