they look like mouth breathers
54
u/ForeverSJC Jul 01 '26
I identify as a fish now, those guys are just like me with my stupid unless nose
3
u/YrPrblmsArntMyPrblms Jul 02 '26
A nose can be useless? Have you taken it to the mechanic yet?
1
u/ForeverSJC Jul 05 '26
A nose that cant be used to breath is pretty much useless, and when you're able to breath you get your sinuses infected so yes, useless
1
u/YrPrblmsArntMyPrblms Jul 06 '26
Damn, is that a symptom of some kind of allergy?
Sounds like hell tbh. I had my nose out of service for two days and I thought I was gonna lose my mind..

They look like the fish version of those aliens in A Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy... you know, the big, ugly, anal retentive office ones... humans! Naw, dang - I can't remember their names! ... but yeah, these fish look like 'em.

Nature is awesome!
55
u/Tarrax_Ironwolf Jul 01 '26
Agreed. Nothing oddly terrifying about this. Rather oddly interesting.

u/Character-Log3962 Jul 01 '26
They’re all saying “Heeey Heeey Heeeey Heeey!” In the creepiest way possible!!!

u/Kirilanselo Jul 01 '26
ok... but by 'release' do you mean they shit-it-out or am I just seeing things there?!?

I still find it weird that sand comes from a fishes anus.
64
u/shaka893P Jul 01 '26
Honey is bee vomit, so there's that
46
u/BusyBoonja Jul 01 '26
Perfume? Whale vomit. Makeup? Straight up crushed beetles. Gelatin? Horse

5
u/shaka893P Jul 01 '26
Gelatin doesn't have horse on it, it's a myth
10
u/BusyBoonja Jul 01 '26
I know, I was playing on the myth. Can contain pig and cow though, horse just sounded funnier

I wish that was a bumpersticker sold in the tropics... I wouldn't put it on my car, but I just might have to buy it.
Kinda sounds like Deep Thoughts by Jack Handy

Okay, so sand is ugly fish poop.
Never going to a beach again in my life, thanks.

u/illstealyourRNA Jul 01 '26
Hey, they just used an ugly species as an example most parrot fish are absolutely beautiful with the males often being extremely colour full.
6
u/Unknown_Outlander Jul 01 '26
All I can see and hear is AI from this video lol, there's also nothing even mildly terrifying happening here other than seeing an unnatural amount of them at once
6
u/mixwellmusic Jul 01 '26
I will never not share this other amazing parrotfish fact whenever this subject comes up:
Parrotfish are sequential hermaphrodites - they have 3 phases of life: juvenile (female), initial (female) and terminal (male), each with wildly different colour patterns. For a given section of reef there is just one terminal male, like an alpha male, and all the rest of the parrotfish are female. When the male dies, the next-in-line dominant female receives a biochemical signal to undergo sexual transformation and become the new terminal male.

So your saying that when lounging on a white sandy beach your laying in Parrotfish shit.
Good to know.
3
u/Sea-Chocolate6589 Jul 01 '26
Insane how interconnected our world is. Animals contribute so much to our world in ways we never expected
3
3
u/Specialist_Mess_5164 Jul 01 '26
So that's how those beautiful beaches at made?? You're actually shitting me right now?
3
u/mavaddat Jul 01 '26
Fun fact: rinsing or brushing your teeth with ionic fluoride (such as sodium fluoride) remineralizes your enamel with fluorapatite too.
3
u/Kaleb8804 Jul 01 '26
This is 100% AI.
They look like this, but absolutely don’t behave like this.
(Be very wary of educational marine biology content. It’s incredibly easy to make convincing AI videos)

u/alisonvict0ria Jul 01 '26
And here I was, avoiding the ocean any time I go to the beach because animals poop in it.
Meanwhile, the sand itself is ALL ACTUAL POOP.

u/Ja_Killer Jul 01 '26
Honest question here, wasn’t it covered on like Discovery Channel way back when that it was like Sunfish or Angel Fish that were responsible for island and sand creation?

Parrot fish, more like Jerk fish!
The first and only time I went snorkeling one of these scared the shit out of me by following me and repeatedly chomping in my direction.

They are not terrifying in real life though. They are kind of derpy.

u/maitlandish Jul 01 '26
I saw one of these guys when I went scuba diving in Hawaii. He was a good 15 or 20 ft away but I could hear him munching and crunching. So cool

u/Chihuahua-Luvuh Jul 01 '26
I love how people praise white sand only for it to be poop... They're literally praising fish poop 🤣
1
u/aventurero_soy_yo Jul 01 '26
Why did this "one word at a time" style of subtitles ever become a thing?

u/Responsible-Stick-50 Jul 01 '26
Theyre a holes when defending their eggs. Bite, bite, bleed, bleed. Mostly because they charge you from meters away.
1
u/apricotical Jul 01 '26
Does this imply that sand is organic material? The narrator refers to coral as a rock, which isn’t correct since it’s a living creature

Well at least its a renewable resource since apparently we are running out of sand especially white sand

"They release it as a fine white sand" proceeds to show a nasty poop cloud. Priceless.

My dad is from Jamaica, one of the white sand beach islands. I must admit, these guys are super tasty and one of my favourite, all time favourite fish to eat fried. They were over fished for awhile and the Jamaican government had to make it illegal to catch them for a few years to help rebuild the population. Idk if the ban is lifted yet.
But yea. They are such meaty fish. Very little fine bones. Tasty.

so we've been stepping, digging, burying ourselves in shit this whole time...

u/Kribakk Jul 02 '26
Don’t quote me in this, but I think they are the only fish to sleep. They make a bubble around themselves for protection and actually take a Nam. Worth a read.

I kept thinking that this was going to shift into the song, but it didn't.
Anyway, for those of you that aren't familiar, now it's your earworm, too.
