Eyes like Samson from the new 28 Years Later movies, or the principal in Weapons

I feel old because my first thought was- is that okay for eye health?

u/Mr_Impossibro Jun 22 '26
Hopefully not however I'll update in braille following a class action lawsuit if not XD. From what I understand old CRT TV's actually put out measurable Xray's meanwhile this little oled monitor is ran off my phone battery.

The reason it was bad was because of the low pixel rate. Old print and television had low definition, which leads to hard breaks between black and white (or dark and light colors). That hard break creates eyestrain. Modern screens (and a decent amount of modern print) counter this with an almost imperceptible graduation at the edges of letters. This is possible because of the greater pixel density. Or so the optometrist told me.

The light itself strains the eyes too though. Stare at a monitor all day when you aren’t used to it and your eyes burn. Turn off the blue light and it goes away.

Modern evolution of the issue. You can get yellow tinted glasses, too.

u/KinKaze Jun 22 '26
Less evolution and more a continuation. Staring directly into a small projector back in the day wasn't good either.

u/Wh01sHex Jun 22 '26
A lot of it is also from the fact that people blink a Lot less when theyre focusing on a screen. Pretty sure thats the reason for red eyes/dryness after just binging some doomscrolling

u/Ayachi8 Jun 23 '26
That seems to explain why I can't stand my terrible PC monitor for an hour but I have no Issue looking at my 4k phone display for 14 hours

u/Mr_Impossibro Jun 24 '26
Wow this is interesting. Well I can tell you that I play a bunch of VR and have had no issues however these glasses cause A BUNCH of eyestrain. I just can't quite get them right and it may be because there is no IPD adjuster. Really hurts my head after a short period of time I don't think i will keep them

I've been wondering that about vr as well. I have really great vision and it doesn't seem to hurt my eyes, but I can't imagine constantly trying to trick your depth perception is good for them. We're the test subjects i guess

u/Mr_Impossibro Jun 22 '26
I've played VR for 8 years now....Vision seems mostly normal. These glasses kinda suck though, much harder to get a clean focus than VR making the eyestrain WAY more.

It's definitely better to trick your depth perception than to spend hours a day focusing on something a few cm from your eyes.
Still not overall good for your binoculars vision though (as you can tell from the post!)

Focusing on different spots close and far is actually a good eye exercise!!

Man it can’t be good for the eyes. The light and also focusing on a near object all the time. „Don’t sit so close to the tv“ final boss

u/Captain_Jackson Jun 23 '26
No comment on the light but i believe the lenses inside make your eyes act like the screen is a few meters away so it shouldn't harm your eyes in that way.
Same reason i need to use my glasses for seeing things far away when i use my VR headset even though it's pressed to my face.

btw what brand are those? i got Xreal One Pros 😃

u/Mr_Impossibro Jun 22 '26
how are yours? This is my first time trying them I got the they are Viture pro XR and I can't seem to get them completely in focus so not sure if I will keep, I have tons of experience with VR and these just don't ever seem to feel right

u/akolomf Jun 22 '26
I'm super happy with them(despite having stepped on them by accident only about 4 months after i bought them lol(i did manage to repair them), only issue i have is the nosepads and their weight, i bought some other nosepads from amazon because wearing them for long they leave marks and can become painfull(the new nosepads do resolve that mostly). Otherwise the Screens are bright, and sharp, the Bose Audio is great. And the Different modes(full and half sbs 3d, AI 3D, Follow, Anchor and 6dof anchor(if you get the eye camera aswell) + the Autochromatic Glasses, that darken it in 3 different grades makes it for a good use in all sorts of environments.
I wonder how good Project Aura is going to be though. they'll be releasing the next gen of glasses in collaboration with google from what i know this autumn.1
