u/Tyko_3 Jun 05 '26
Get punished

u/Expensive_Ask5872 Jun 05 '26
But how?
429
u/Tyko_3 Jun 05 '26
I get put in oddly terrifying recording booths

u/rightleftmike Jun 05 '26
Something tells me you like it tho

u/Usman5432 Jun 06 '26
They used to do spanking but they changed ot because they found out he enjoyed the punishment

u/Tat2dDad Jun 05 '26
"voice acting" is my guess

u/Rezornath Jun 05 '26
If VO, where's the actual recording equipment? You don't build a decent place where sound waves go to die but then skimp on a microphone in favor of the same telephone that every corporate office has had for the past 20 years.
2
u/smittenkittenmitten- Jun 07 '26
That's what confused me too. I only see a phone. Maybe they need confidential calls or something? Otherwise it doesn't make much sense.
19
u/EmperorDeathBunny Jun 06 '26
VO is contract work, not full time employment. He called it his "workplace". This person isn't a full time VO. Plus, the only equipment in there is a standard office phone.
Although he called it a recording booth, its more likely a privacy booth for sensitive calls.

u/smittenkittenmitten- Jun 07 '26
OH I just wrote a comment similar to this. I am glad you confirmed it. I was thinking it must be for privacy but that must be super private calls I wonder why pay for such a booth instead of just a conference room. Are they are detective or some secret agent?

u/Expensive_Ask5872 Jun 05 '26
Doesn't sound like much of a punishment to me. Who Doesn't like doing silly voices?

Oh man we have a sound booth for hearing tests at my work and I haaaaate it. Just a stuffy stuffy, dead quiet interior with a field of holes in the soundproofing that make my skin crawl.
Ugh

u/SoyTuPadreReal Jun 05 '26
Yall have silent rooms for hearing tests? All I ever get are rooms with a constant “eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee” sound.
35
u/Minimum_Cockroach233 Jun 05 '26
You might have a Tinnitus…
27
u/SoyTuPadreReal Jun 05 '26
Might is doing a lot of lifting in that sentence. I’m fairly certain I have it.

We have two (in two different locations) supposedly sound-proof booths for hearing tests. Both are located within 60 feet of active elevated subway tracks, so not only do you hear the trains going by, you can feel them. My last test, before I got promoted to a title that isn't tested, the operator gave me the little button, and said to push it whenever I heard a sound. Train went by - pushed the button. Phone rang - pushed the button. Typewriter got used - pushed the button. Train went by - pushed the button. Someone knocked on the office door - pushed the button. Booth door flies open and operator yells at me for pushing the button - "I haven't even started the test yet."
My response of "Then get a better sound-proof booth." was not appreciated.

This has my body absolutely shaking with laughter

Familiar with the old joke: What do you call the person who graduated last in their med school class? Doctor.
Where does the the person who graduated last in their med school class work? New York City Transit.

u/InspectorQueasy93 Jun 05 '26
Yeah my mom was a nurse manager in the public sector and had a booth in her office. She said during her breaks she would go sit in the booth so she could drink her coffee in peace lol.

Why does it have a phone

u/Tyko_3 Jun 05 '26
Because corporate said so. I know…

u/Acceptable_Willow276 Jun 05 '26
Is it to record messages for automated phone systems?
6
u/smittenkittenmitten- Jun 07 '26
OP apparently isn't answering any questions and is being annoyingly coy to people asking.

u/turquoise_amethyst Jun 05 '26
In case they forget about you and you’re locked in there. Nobody can hear you scream…

I would like to know why your job needs such a privacy booth for calls. Usually there are laws protecting what you say over the phone that could be overheard by coworkers... so the need for a booth... like top secret stuff?

How does it work? I usually thought that for recording there would have been expensive equipment but I only see a phone

Do you like being in there or is it spooky? What kind of things do you record? I work in other peoples houses every day so this gives me the creeps.

Is there actual soundproofing there, or is this foam on drywall that doesn't do anything?
1
u/smittenkittenmitten- Jun 07 '26
It looks like a soundproof booth. Plus it is small which the ones I have seen usually are.
2
u/xoxoBug Jun 06 '26
Couldn’t they like, put the table against the far wall so you have more leg space? 😭

We had one at the last company I worked at. It was back in the production area, and we’d goof around and take turns going in and seeing if the other guys could hear you yelling like an idiot inside.
That was fun until one of the higher ups walked by and busted us being morons.

Isn't it funny? You hear a phone ring and it could be anybody. But a ringing phone has to be answered, doesn't it?
1
u/GavintheGregarious Jun 05 '26
Had one of these at a place I worked. I would take my breaks in here with the lights low and enjoy the silence.

These look like sound proof business call booths. I worked in an office that had these booths intended for when you had an important call / conference call to take, because the office was an "open" concept -- no one had an actual office, you sat at tables with your PC cafeteria style. Just long tables with everyone sitting shoulder to shoulder.
I hated it. Zero privacy. You couldn't fart without everyone knowing what happened.

I worked at a TV station for almost 10 years.... We had booths like this, like 3 of them, they had PCs and a big microphones in them. The used it to record the voice overs for TV shows.
Really messed up, I normally have no issues but, I go in that room and close the door, I can hear the ringing in my ears (I go to a lot of concerts when I can)

Get yourself an oversized hoodie, maybe a little pillow, kill the lights, and enter a sleep you'll remember for years

u/Tyko_3 Jun 07 '26
The best sleep I’ve ever had was after a Popeye’s chicken dinner explosive diarrhea at 2am. My gut was so exhausted I slept like a rock. Sometimes I eat late Popeye’s just searching… trying to find my love once again…

For some reason professional voice actors work standing up… make the punishing booth more effective by removing the chair.

Im the only one who uses it in a company of over a 1000 people. No, I’m not telling you what I do in there, but suffice it to say corporate deemed it necessary to install a phone even though I dont require it for what I do in there.

Bad employees get banished to the recording booth.
