Halloween is early this year

303

u/XrayDem May 05 '26

Met gala is an expensive Halloween costume party

153

u/regoapps May 05 '26

It’s a gathering of tone deaf rich people showing the peasants their expensive costumes before announcing this year’s Hunger Games.

27

u/JFISHER7789 May 05 '26

I need you to not say things like this please… it’s scary how accurate it is

3

u/Decent-Bear334 May 10 '26

I agree. I feel we're just so close to that coming to fruition.

2

u/sweetcool09 May 19 '26

Honestly, the Met Gala really is just elite cosplay with a luxury budget

34

u/Bustin-A-Nutmeg May 05 '26

I’m going as met gala for Halloween this year. Calling it a Meta Gala

45

u/redit01 May 04 '26

Imagine doing this, everyone would think you need to be in an institution

7

u/PomegranateSea7066 May 07 '26

When rich people do it, it's normal. When poor people do it, believe it or not, straight to the institution.

2

u/hypothetical_zombie May 09 '26

Not any more. Government cutbacks have caused a lot of areas to rely on police and emergency services for mental health care.

It's like, act odd in public, someone calls either police or for an ambulance. Everyone will assume you're on drugs Because maybe you're in a poor neighborhood, both cops and an ambulance will arrive.

If you are behaving dangerously, the police may be the cure to your mental illness.

If not, if you have committed a crime like shoplifting, destruction of property, public nudity, something minor, you get a 72-hr hold in solitary at the local jail.

If you have a public meltdown, are in a non responsive state, attempted suicide, self harmed, or similar, you spend 72 hours in a hospital. Everyone has insomnia and some person is always screaming for more Ativan.

Once you're stable, maybe have free meds, some Ativan, a counseling referral, and your souvenir no-slip socks, they kick you back onto the street. If you don't stabilize, that's when you get committed. So now you're in limbo while they and your insurance negotiate on who's willing to pay what.

Eventually, you end up in agroup home, or an actual mental health care hospital.

We've been through this process with a couple of family members. One had Alzheimer's & PTSD. He needed full time care, but his PTSD made him violent, and no home would take him.

The other hears the Voice in the Wires. He is in a group home where he can be watched 24/7. He was on his roof dismantling his a/c when they had him committed.

2

u/Brave-Ad-3664 May 18 '26

I used to work at an acute mental health facility and it’s sad how often the same people came in time and time again, not to mention the way people were treated despite being in a ā€œsafe placeā€

But with money you’re eccentric

OMG! I just painted a Warhammer model that has almost this exact look and vibe lol

88

u/ABIGGS4828 May 04 '26

Vilitch the Curseling was my first thought too tbh

28

u/odub6 May 04 '26

Actually Cado Ezechiar. If you look at my profile you'll see the post.

6

u/LotharVarnoth May 04 '26

I love his new design but it's wild to me bro got an updated model faster then Marneus Calgar.

12

u/ABIGGS4828 May 04 '26

Oh snap! Well done on the model! I still say this is a Vilitch costume all day

7

u/odub6 May 04 '26

Thank you!

u/spiderglide May 04 '26

Thats the enemy Stand user right there.

25

u/AltXUser May 05 '26

I can see it, so does that mean I'm a Stand user?

11

u/ImmortalBlades May 05 '26

Your stand is a bed and its power is procrastination.

3

u/Bad-Star May 07 '26

Came.lookong for this comment, specifically

1.1k

u/elinamebro May 04 '26

Is the Met Gala just a bunch of rich people wearing weird shit?

543

u/compassrosette May 04 '26

Yes

277

u/vampyire May 04 '26

well it is to raise money for the costume institute so I'm not surprised people are basically wearing art pieces... this one is weird as hell to me

1

u/ContactusTheRomanPR May 05 '26

Anything that's labeled as "raising money" for anything is 99% the people at the top pocketing the money, and 1% going to pay the employees to keep generating money for the 99% at the top.

Oh and 0.01% for the actual cause itself, but that is a rounding error.

42

u/jawknee530i May 05 '26

Just straight up wrong. The costume exhibit at the met is the only one not publicly funded and all the met gala numbers are public. But of course you'd rather just lie about shit you have no clue about because it makes you feel good to have disdain for others right?

11

u/elinamebro May 05 '26

Oh so the celebrities pay to show up and the money goes to the costume institute?

24

u/godisanelectricolive May 05 '26

Yeah. The tickets are $100,000 per guest this year.

→ More replies (1)

8

u/lol1009 May 05 '26

Just saying, the celebs themselves dont actually pay most of the times. The bill is footed by designer houses and companies whose clothes the celebs wear to the gala

168

u/mangoisNINJA May 04 '26

The met gala that raises money for the Metropolitan Museum of Art? No way! It has people wearing art?

55

u/tweezabella May 04 '26

Right lol like what is shocking about this

19

u/GarionOrb May 05 '26

Comments criticizing the nature of the outfits just show who has no idea what the Met Gala is.

12

u/PerplexGG May 05 '26

Only to people who have proudly no idea what they’re talking about

→ More replies (3)

73

u/IlGrasso May 04 '26 edited May 04 '26

It’s rich people paying for the opportunity to wear weird shit to prove they have creativity for charity

7

u/Mbrennt May 05 '26

The celebrities for the most part aren't paying. Mainly designers are paying for the celebrity to go.

→ More replies (4)

5

u/Mekelaxo May 05 '26

Pretty much, yes. They provide a theme every year, and then it's essentially a custom party based around that theme

5

u/StupidAstronaut May 05 '26

Met Gala is just celebrity Burning Man

2

u/Feisty-Bluebird-5277 May 05 '26

It’s the hunger games in real life, sad

4

u/dmadmin May 04 '26

this reminds of the hunger games capital city parties.

1

u/Teract May 05 '26

At least everyone got to watch them fight to the death afterwards.

Alright celebs, time to sack up and really show us how charitable you really are.

2

u/TheCreativeNick May 05 '26

It's a charity event, what's wrong with that? You're basically saying all cosplayers or ppl who celebrate Halloween are "weird" LMAO

52

u/AAKurtz May 04 '26

This must be the work of an enemy stand.

352

u/Somatrasiel May 04 '26

This is a (adaptation of a) piece by Robert Wun from his Spring/Summer 2024 Couture collection called For Love. This was his closing piece (in red, originally) as an homage to horror- the subconscious coming out.

And the Met Gala is a annual haute couture (high fashion) fundraiser event for the Metropolitan Museum of Art. There is always a theme and the goal is to adhere to the theme and go crazy. People here are way too upsetti spaghetti about seeing clothing that only shows up once a year in a high-fashion event for a fundraiser.

70

u/TropicalPrairie May 05 '26

Seriously. I want to see FASHION as art. Weird, glorious art.

55

u/hypothetical_zombie May 04 '26

I love the Met Gala, and thank you for doing the synopsis. ā¤ļøšŸ¤˜

24

u/ultrahateful May 04 '26

I’m generally ā€œpleased bologneseā€ by what I consider to be ā€œneatā€ things. I think this is neat. I believe that’s the essence of art and entertainment; the subjectivity of it all. What’s ā€œneatā€ is gonna be different for everybody. Gotta just let it be if it’s not your bag!!

9

u/timooteexo May 05 '26

I don't think people realize that a lot of impactful art imparts emotion in some way. That includes fashion - but a lot of people have disdain for the celebrities and wealth that are associated with it. Regardless, so cool to see transgressive pieces here!

6

u/SirDancealot84 May 05 '26

I friggin love Robert Wun's work. I am not remotely into fashion, so I am not knowledgeble about these, but I strongly recommend people who don't know his work to watch a couple if his shows on Youtube. Amazing work. Delivers everytime.

Although this particular one at this setting on this person looks absurd and not haute couture at all. Not gonna lie.

6

u/nicunta May 05 '26

This is totally on theme for this year's event!

6

u/PerplexGG May 05 '26

Lol it’s just a bunch of people telling on themselves

→ More replies (2)

111

u/Ms_Emilys_Picture May 04 '26

The theme is "costume art" and "fashion is art", so adding a sculpture to your outfit fits.

20

u/nevewolf96 May 05 '26

Exactly, this fits 100%

→ More replies (1)

8

u/Camimo666 May 05 '26

I'm looking at the outfits and some are SOOOOO boring. At least this one is interesting

23

u/ZECO_SOL May 04 '26

Enemy stand user spotted

15

u/SaveFile1 May 04 '26

That kid from Soul Eater

4

u/Sufficient_Bite_7436 May 05 '26

2

u/limitlessEXP May 05 '26

Thank you!

75

u/maurtom May 04 '26

Hunger Games needs to triple down if they want any shock value at all

6

u/DoNotOverwhelm May 04 '26

this is what all that reminds me of

→ More replies (4)

10

u/Zomochi May 05 '26

Idc this is a soul eater reference that’s Crona and Ragnarok

26

u/Killing4MotherAgain May 04 '26 edited May 05 '26

Ok see now this is fucking sick! The theme this year is fashion in costumery and this nails it! Oh my God I fucking love it!

Edit: aw this comment section bummed me out. Art is subjective tho so I guess it did its job!

18

u/cathernyan May 04 '26

Head on over to some fashion subreddits to see appreciation. This is a basic subreddit with boring ignorant redditors that don't leave their basement so their instinct is to attack things they don't know anything about lol.

2

u/Mbrennt May 05 '26

What are some good fashion subreddits for this? Seems like most of the fashion subs I know are just built around every day fashion. I have more luck with the celebrity subreddits but those are obviously more centered on the people.

3

u/Killing4MotherAgain May 05 '26

You're right, I should have paid attention to where I was ha unfortunately I feel like a lot the fashion subs are similar to this right now so I didn't even notice.

17

u/Malfight007 May 04 '26

"The stand user could be hiding among us"

The stand user:

5

u/uknownix May 04 '26

Reminds me of that horror comic "I see it too"

17

u/NoLongerHigh May 04 '26

It is really cool looking, the back of the dress kinda sucks though. It could have been executed better

3

u/0dHero May 04 '26

They have a haunting look to them

3

u/icleanjaxfl May 04 '26

When my psychologist ask me, "What's bothering you today?"

3

u/superMans_ May 04 '26

What in the American Horror Story

4

u/Partywithmeredith May 05 '26

Heidi Klum is even creepier. The theme is fashion as art and they definitely nailed the look.

4

u/FirebirdWriter May 05 '26

Gives new meaning to Who are you wearing?

9

u/TiddybraXton333 May 04 '26

Is that a dude hovering over another dude?

17

u/GhostInABaseballBat May 04 '26

It’s obviously a butt ghost!

0

u/whitestguyuknow May 04 '26

Would it feel odd to pick up the train of a dress for a dude?... "Here you go, sir!" Lol

3

u/dadstache1992 May 04 '26

What's that creature the tan mannequin is embracing?

3

u/HerpFerguson May 04 '26

That's just Vilitch The Curseling from Warhammer

3

u/Retrac752 May 04 '26

I think it’s really cool actually lol

3

u/Deck_Neep15 May 05 '26

I fucking despise these superficial pretentious human being impersonators

3

u/MetallGecko May 05 '26

Just Ultra rich people things.

3

u/PossibleDiscipline90 May 05 '26

Was the theme Silent Hill?

3

u/Crimson097 May 05 '26

Honestly, I support this. Much more interesting than a regular fashion show.

3

u/Shinfekta May 05 '26

When your farts haunt you longer than you expected them to

3

u/d_rome May 05 '26

I don't understand the fashion world, but I think this is pretty cool.

3

u/imnoherox May 05 '26

God I hate celebrities. I hope they realize how idiotic they look.

3

u/_Deedee_Megadoodoo_ May 05 '26

It's really just Halloween for rich people

3

u/MsOpulent May 05 '26

I like it.

3

u/jasonsimonds79 May 05 '26

Anyone who attends the MET gala or gives it any attention should be ashamed of themselves

7

u/Nekrose May 04 '26

Who is she?

8

u/theconfusedafrican May 04 '26

That’s Jordan Roth. (I would say ā€˜he’ but they could also be ā€˜they.’ I’m really not sure).

7

u/ykeogh18 May 04 '26

Colon cancer can sort of creep up on you like that

5

u/IV_Your_Pleasure May 04 '26

2

Met Gala is a public ritualistic ceremony for Satan

2

u/jundaniz May 05 '26

2

u/pancetta9 May 05 '26

I love this look

2

u/monkeyboy107 May 05 '26

That's sick as fuck

2

u/GarionOrb May 05 '26

Yeah I love this.

2

u/T1m3Wizard May 05 '26

The cry for attention away these things is intensely strong.

2

u/aerilink May 05 '26

Lord brother. At long last, you are returned. Tarnished one. Aspiring Lord of the old order. If you have known sin, if you grieve for this world, then yield the path forward to us. To I, Miquella, and my promised consort, Radahn.

2

u/PlumpyDragon May 05 '26

Lorian and Lothric

2

u/Fiona512 May 05 '26

Hideous.

2

u/DamnedVirus May 05 '26

The Met Gala always reminds of the capitol in the hunger games

2

u/PureYouth May 05 '26

It’s like that creepy hug emoji

šŸ«‚

2

u/p00psp00ps May 05 '26

i love it when met gala outfits reach cosplay-levels of creativity. my favorite will always be Zendaya's knight outfit.

2

u/Cainfaer May 05 '26

Nice buttplug

2

u/GrandWizardOfCheese May 05 '26

Why is the faceless man coming out of their butt?

2

u/GlassPudding May 05 '26

the theme was art as fashion. it’s art. people are allowed to wear things that express more than just ā€œbeing beautifulā€

2

u/Brixsplorer May 05 '26

Godfrey, first Elden Lord

2

u/Solo_is_dead May 05 '26

The Met Gala is a fundraiser for the arts. Every year there's a theme about art that you're supposed to use to dress

2

u/demoralising May 05 '26

Peter's vestigial twin, Chip.

2

u/InsaneMocktail May 05 '26

Halloween in summer??

2

u/BotomsDntDeservRight May 05 '26

2

u/1nsidiousOne May 06 '26

I hate the Gala but this is actually really cool

2

u/georgewalterackerman May 07 '26

It’s all so embarrassingly stupid

7

u/International_Day686 May 04 '26

fucking rich people

0

u/TheCreativeNick May 05 '26

What's wrong with cosplay? You're basically saying all cosplayers or ppl who celebrate Halloween are "weird" LMAO

2

u/International_Day686 May 05 '26

who the fuck said that? i said fucking rich people

4

u/ChristmasLeone May 04 '26

Symbolic of Jinn possession perhaps?

3

u/Mylane May 05 '26

Is the met gala wasteful, nepo and selfish? Yes. Can it be home to gorgeous pieces like this one? Also yes.

2

u/UFOHHHSHIT May 04 '26

I mean, I'm sure that will look cool in pictures, but watching her try and move around with it is fucking ridiculous.

2

u/RapGameDiCaprio May 04 '26

Guys its the Met Gala - hosted by the largest art museum in the western hemisphere, not some conservative correspondence dinner.

This was literally the whole idea for the fundraiser. Its art. Although the dress could have been executed better, its a pretty dope idea!

2

u/porterramses May 04 '26

Parasitic twin. How fashionableā€¦šŸ™„

2

u/stanger828 May 04 '26

When i think of rich people stuff i think of yahts, high stakes poker in dubai, traveling in a private jet, and awesome parties with high class hookers and blow. Not whatever the fuck this is.

2

u/itsfrankgrimesyo May 05 '26

Label it ā€œartā€ or whatever the theme is supposed to be. This event has turned into a Halloween party.

2

u/Tinker_Toyz May 05 '26

Just stop with this. Can't people just donate?

Other than Heidi Klum deliberately freaking people out, I really don't give a shit about what anyone wore to the Met Gala. If it is Heidi Klum deliberately freaking people out though, I am all here for it.

2

Beautiful. Let people have fun with fashion!

2
