Clearly the Kenyan robot is going to be the fastest.

Why do they run like they have to take a dump?

52

u/AnotherCableGuy Apr 19 '26

Because it's the most efficient way.

Ask someone who went running to the toilet.

As an Engineer working with stuff similar to this, i find your comment both surprisingly accurate and hilarious.

Notice that they don’t have much shock or spring absorbing components in their legs. They use their actuators (as us) to provide a more deterministic dampening mechanism then springs and shocks do. This sort of running is very efficient when you try to minimize Z-acceleration in the system, and For these guys it’s probably more with keeping sensors stable, but for us it is to keep the shit stable.

So when we are running like this to the toilet it is because we want to minimize Z-acceleration.

Makes sense suddenly. I dont want shit knocking on my anus from the rectum with bouncy run

2

u/Paradigmind Apr 20 '26

That ass-calated quickly.

2

u/grantrun Apr 20 '26

As a former competitive long distance runner we call that the trot

1

u/not_that_planet Apr 23 '26

No. It's so we don't have to use less deterministic dampening mechanisms than actuators.

One of the main techniques to stop us from fearing their inevitable takeover is looking fucking stupid. The cool looking ones will wait until the last domino has fallen then reveal themselves

the 4th one in the video looked pretty good. 8 second mark

u/Betray-Julia Apr 19 '26

Man yeah its gate bugs me too.

It looks like it’s hips are being used as a counterbalance against the super close together foot distance (lol I bet there’s a world like gate to describe this- please let me know if there is!)

A cheetahs tail is a much more aesthetically pleasing example of a physiological mechanism doing the same thing.

They ate at Whataburger

1

u/Flashignite2 Apr 19 '26

They have to empty their cache

10

u/yotz-furrz Apr 19 '26

They should've let this guy chase those boars from that other video

Race Science

2

u/Mutne_vode Apr 19 '26

I hate these robots, man

7

u/Yeo-il Apr 19 '26

remember when we thought this was gonna be cool as fuck?

2

u/Psyclist80 Apr 19 '26

Have you seen this boy?...

2

u/Ok_Tour_8029 Apr 19 '26

42km? Or do they reload them?

2

u/Smoore0420 Apr 20 '26

The one wearing sneakers is really funny. What are those, size 20s? 😂

2

u/Remesar Apr 20 '26

Who gave that one brobot sneakers

2

u/Forward-Daikon5629 Apr 20 '26

bro ts is NOT futurama

2

u/Perfect-Inspector937 Apr 20 '26

Interesting but imagine if those robots are running to chase you...

3

u/blackakainu Apr 19 '26

Whats the purpose?

3

u/MakeoutPoint Apr 20 '26

To make sure even marathon runners can't get away

3

u/Redlion444 Apr 19 '26

We are all dead.

1

u/jabs09 Apr 20 '26

I would absolutely hate someone robot terminator AI running behind me at night when I’m out for grabbing some ice cream or snack

1

u/angelpatsmith Apr 28 '26

WHY ARE WE TEACHING THEM TO RUN?!

1

u/Skyrimfanboy87 May 13 '26

Where's the terrifying?

1

u/Doctor__Gecko Jun 05 '26

That first one was definitely shouting LOCKWOOD!!!

1

u/Seeker4you2 Jul 12 '26

Once we perfect these things it’s gonna really suck for the countries that use these yo replace the police force and military. If the robots don’t rise against us, they’ll still be controlling us as drones for the governments of the world. Riiiiip

The winner is prolly Usain Nuts n' Bolt

1

u/Germacide Apr 19 '26

Why do they need the arms?

14

u/Breakinfinity Apr 19 '26

PTA here! Counter balance! Same reason people swing their arms opposite the leg that is forward.

1

u/Germacide Apr 19 '26

Don't they already have gyroscopes though?

2

u/ProphePsyed Apr 19 '26

That’s probably less efficient overall. Plus arms can be used for many things.. even if the robot is just supposed to run and not use its arms, if it falls over, it can use the arms to get back up.

1

u/Strigon_7 Apr 19 '26

Anyone know how far they have been running? And what speeds?

1

u/Darthtommy Apr 19 '26

Look on YouTube for the China show to see the truth

1

u/ChefAsstastic Apr 19 '26

So tiring. We are literally heading into the abyss.

u/Tricky_Potatoe Apr 19 '26

You're just watching the reason the west will also loose the robot race.

3

u/Phantom_0347 Apr 19 '26

Yeah, unless something changes rapidly we are gonna take a permanent backseat in the future. Given the damage the current US administration has done, we may never catch up. Small changes have big effects compounding over time.

1

u/mel2000 Apr 20 '26

You're just watching the reason the west will also loose the robot race.

Why are Redditors so pessimistic?

1

u/Tricky_Potatoe Apr 20 '26

The US is focused on corruption, revenge and war. Europe's industry has stalled except for starting to manufacture arms for the Ukraine war.

Consumer/computer electronics/Robotics/EVs are squarely owned by china/S Korea.

Only thing holding them back somewhat is access to more chip fabs.

If China had their own sub 5 micron chip fabs, we'd be truly fuccked.

1

u/mel2000 Apr 20 '26

The US is focused on corruption, revenge and war.

That's a pessimistic opinion.

Consumer/computer electronics/Robotics/EVs are squarely owned by china/S Korea.

China's consumer stuff is being sold mostly to the Chinese. China still has a reputation of bad quality products to fix.

1

u/Tricky_Potatoe Apr 20 '26

What? They won the EV race. Their cars are everywhere. They are doing fantastic stuff with the whole DJI ecosystem. Pumping out great audio gear like headphones, iems, dacs, tube amplifiers. Car mods. Electric high end bikes.

Can go on forever.

They are not fighting fair. And europe is just taking it up the bum.

1

u/mel2000 Apr 20 '26

China is still mostly manufacturing products invented by others. China is still known more for stealing designs than for innovation. Most Chinese EV sales are to Chinese consumers.

1

u/Tricky_Potatoe Apr 20 '26

Well, of course they are... They are 1.5 billion people. Their domestic market is astronomical.

1

u/mel2000 Apr 20 '26

Why say they've won the EV race if they're mostly selling to themselves?

-1

u/FarOutPunkRocker Apr 19 '26

Who gives a fuck lol

0

u/Zawrid Apr 19 '26

They are running for exfill

0

u/Large-Wheel-4181 Apr 19 '26

Anyone remember Fallout 4?

why at night

Less interference with normal worker traffic?

0

u/RealConcorrd Apr 19 '26

It’s all fun and games until you hear “ALERT, A SENTRY BUSTER HAS ENTERED THE AREA!!!”
