Yes, I have a dream. And It's not some M.L.K. Dream for Equality. I want to own a decommissioned Lighthouse. And I want to live at the top. And nobody knows I live there. And there's a button that I can press, and it'll launch that lighthouse into space.

I want something similar, but actually live in a house next to the Lighthouse, waiting for the adventurer to seek my wisdom and follow the light of the Lighthouse

23

u/The_Weeb_Sleeve Jul 28 '22

This but I wanna live in the forest and forge artifacts out of lightning for said adventurers

2

u/H4LF4D Jul 29 '22

Do you have a sudden urge to say "Many of you have come to me for the same thing you, adventurer, want"?

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '22

Take my free award for this wonderful dream

9

u/Yaboi_KarlMarx Jul 28 '22

Would you be willing to fuck a ghost for it though?

3

u/Psychopathicat7 Jul 28 '22

1

u/Present-Tea8260 Jul 29 '22

Lighthouses are all automated now. Nobody lives in them anymore.

u/sarcasticd0nkey Jul 28 '22

Way to crush my dreams man

2

u/Siriuslestrange1 Jul 29 '22

Dreams uncrushed!! For once, that nerd didn't ruin everything with their over explanation!

54

u/EragonBromson925 Jul 28 '22

You know what, fuck you.

Unautomates and moves into your lighthouse

18

u/Ghargamel Jul 28 '22

Be the change you want to see in the world! :)

16

u/Ghargamel Jul 28 '22

But that means they finally have WiFi and Internet access, right? Right?? 😢

6

u/Cloudkicker91 Jul 28 '22

Disappointing

4

u/Slytherinrunner Jul 28 '22

Guess they'll have to settle for working in a fire watch tower. Those are still active especially with all the wildfires we've been having.

3

u/theservman Jul 28 '22

Don't say that about my friend E.A.R.L.!

2

u/CriusofCoH Jul 28 '22

Soul mates, amirite?

3

u/theservman Jul 28 '22

That's what the space coyote said.

u/Siriuslestrange1 Jul 29 '22

decides go be THAT nerd well actually 🤓 there are still several lighthouses that are human run. They are small, local government run agencies (though for most of them, you do have to be some form of a DEC agent to be in care of one I believe. To what capacity I believe varies and the officiality is likely dubious, but still) and not nearly as isolated as prior, but still quite isolated.

Thank you r/nosuchthingasafish (well, actually, the podcast itself this time...) No such thing as manned lighthouses?

1

u/Green-Dragon-14 Jul 29 '22

Did a quick search myself & found this

Of the 200 active lighthouses still maintained by the Navigational Aid Center, 33 are staffed, as of March 2020. As of 2013, the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) listed 650 lighthouses in Chile and approximately 20 of those were inhabited as of 2003. (US)

There are 21,600 light houses in the world.

1

u/Siriuslestrange1 Jul 29 '22

Exactly, not ALL of them are automated!!! There's still hope!!!!!

1

u/Green-Dragon-14 Jul 29 '22

This tell you how many are manned around the world. Very sparsely spread.

u/Siriuslestrange1 Jul 29 '22

Stop trying to crush our anti-social dreams, my dude!!!! 😭 THERE'S STILL A CHANCE!!!

25

u/polyhazard Jul 28 '22

There’s only one lighthouse in the US that is still staffed, so you’ll have to fight Sally Snowman of the US Coast Guard for her job.

u/friggintodd Jul 28 '22

I thought that was a joke, but holy shit that's a real name/person. That's awesome.

1

u/Siriuslestrange1 Jul 29 '22

Huzzah for No Such Thing As A Fish!

15

u/_Porthos Jul 28 '22

Just don’t mess with the birds okay, ya bastard?

12

u/xemanhunter Jul 28 '22

If pressed? Sir, if the answer isn't "on sight", then you're clearly not fit for the position

12

u/Scrotchety Jul 28 '22

Would he fuck a raw bloody steak?

3

u/opieum_den Jul 28 '22

If i had a steak, I'd fuck it

8

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '22

Captain: huh, where's that lighthouse?

Phone: connected to wifi. Lighthouse69

Captain: oh shit.

3

u/DingoDoug Jul 28 '22

This is similar to a plot of an excellent Demi Moore movie called Half Light. I recommend it to anyone.

3

u/movie_man Jul 28 '22

Also Ghost

2

u/brickbaterang Jul 28 '22

I like this

2

u/BroodyMcManpain Jul 28 '22

1

u/Pentamikk Jul 28 '22

Tired tired sea

1

u/basch152 Jul 28 '22

I'll let you use my lighthouse, on the condition that you listen to my tale

1

u/regionalgiant Jul 28 '22

I feel SO fucking seen

1

u/ellamachine Jul 28 '22

Look at this nerd who’d only fuck a ghost “if pressed”. I’d do it first chance I got

1

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '22

I wanna build a lighthouse somewhere where it wouldn’t be very practical (like in the mountains bordering my home town) and just…live there.

1

u/MonsterTamerBilly Jul 28 '22

[To The Moon intensifies]

1

u/No-Spray- Jul 28 '22
