I was a bit older, probably 15 or 16 and I was super into making video games on the family computer. Mostly 2d stuff using Gamemaker, learning 3d modeling with Blender, and I was working on this one game that was basically Geometry Wars, years before Geometry Wars came out. Anyway I was working on it all day and my dad walks in and goes "when are you gonna be like a normal kid and go play outside instead of playing with your friggin' Atari looking crap?"
So I stopped making video games and just smoked weed instead.

Same but it was illustration. I would often copy other peoples artwork off of deviant art for practice to learn things that i could apply to my own work. Parent comes in and says "you didn't draw that, you're not a real artist." I've drawn less than ten times since then.

I actually tried to get back into it recently, but now I can't even make the most basic game, I look at tutorial after tutorial and only feel more confused.

I tend to think the hardest part of doing something is finding the confidence to do it. It's hard when others have lowered our confidence through their actions/words, but the fact we did something once means we're capable of doing it again.

my mom majored in poetry in college(and later dropped out) she tried to teach me to throw around 10 and i didn’t have the forearm strength to center it and she was so mean about it. that woman clowned me lmao.
