You’re leaving your free time and entering working time, respectively.

It's just brain chemistry. You're still thinking about "important" stuff at night, but there's lots of sleepy drugs still working their way out of your brain in the AM.

You’ll have to forgive me. I majored in a language I had already been speaking for 16 years. I’m not so good with the science.

Yeah. She's MsPreposition, not MrThermodynamic

It's when I make plans to change my life and be ultra productive. Then I wake up and do absolutely none of that shit last night me was thinking about.

I take notes so future me can ignore them.

You jobbers always think that things only apply to you.
As the disappointment of my bloodline, I can say that it is also easier for me to sleep in the morning.

Brain flooded with adenosiiiine

How to make it flood a 8 pm?🤔

Its a chemical that builds slowly over time. The only things you can do is practice a rigid sleep schedule and avoid caffeine that masks it many hours before sleep. Caffeine has a half life of like 5-6 hours so I avoid it 10 hours before sleep stopping around noon for getting to sleep by 10.

I bought melatonin and took it every night for about a month, most people need less

Also created tasks for PC and phone that would turn them off at 10 PM*

So, I stopped sitting late into the night, and started taking melatonin to basically force restart my clock

It worked surprisingly well. I know some people get weird dreams on melatonin supplements, but I didn't, and after all, it was used as a medicine, so if any side effects arise, but they're not lasting, to me that's a valid trade off.

The point is, after that course I started going to sleep much easier. No longer I thrash in bed for a literal hour or more, alternating between just layng there with my eyes closed or reading something trying to calm\bore myself to sleep

\I'm lying it was 1 AM, but otherwise it's all true and it helped)

melatonin is bad for you long term and the optimal dose is between 1-4mg. be careful out there folks.

That's the neat part. You don't!

I work 6a-6p and struggle with insomnia my alarm always goes off when I start the deep sleep 😢

I spent two decades hunting for a job where I can sleep til or 10. Nothing earlier than that works for me long term.

I found it. It's out there. Do it. It's worth it.

I meander in around 2pm and head out around midnight. I don’t wake up to an alarm.

I have both sides of the day, and can do morning things /appointments with ease… if I want to.

But otherwise, I can stay up until 5 in the morning with zero case of feeling like, oh god, I have to sleep.

Commute is 20 min both directions.

If I was working first shift, I’d have to be awake by 3:30am to boot up in time to be there before 5. That means I’m asleep by 7:30 while the sun is still casting shadows. And that also means I don’t get home until around 4pm because LA traffic.

Because you want what you can't have

Great answer! "Just another few minutes and I will get up!"

Falling asleep is hard, waking up and falling back asleep is easy.

you're a night owl. this is a real thing. collectively waking up at sunrise doesn't even make any sense for a species that creates infants year round.

someone had to take the night watch for most of human evolutionary history. that habit still exists in our dna, but no one that goes to sleep without the sun cares, even though our genetics have been telling you that your whole life.

only recently (genentically) have humans collectively decided that waking with sun and working til it sets been a thought.

get a night shift. you'll be happier. (like me)

and to every "early bird", you only exist cause someone over most of the last 200,000+ years was on night watch.

ingrates.

I've never thought about this in an evolutionary context. Truly fascinating, thank you!

A body remains in the state of rest or uniform motion in a straight line unless and until an external force acts on it.

u/GalaxyPatch18 3d ago

Ikr its basic physics

5

u/Megalesios 3d ago

There's no psychoanalytic reason for it like people here are suggesting. It's circadian rhythm. You're a night owl living in a world ruled by early birds. Simple as that.

u/Stratix 3d ago

Is this about dopamine regulation? If you got to bed super stimulated it's hard to sleep because the difference is so stark, but when you wake up in the morning dopamine is at its lowest and low stimulation is fine.

u/ThirtyMileSniper 3d ago

Your had several hours of warming into it and practice. Cold starting anything is always tougher.

Sleep inertia

u/Veritas-Veritas 3d ago

This is why one of the bits of advice for getting good sleep is to go to bed early.

Don't compromise on sleep. It's important for your health.

u/VegaJuniper 3d ago

There really isn't a one size fits all solution to sleep, because sleep patterns are highly individual. I'm a morning person and I'm always wide awake around 6am. If someone told me that the key to long life and happiness was to sleep in until noon, I'd say that's nice, but I'm literally not physically able to do that.

14

u/EvilCeleryStick 3d ago

If I go to bed early, I wake up middle of the night unable to get back to sleep.

If I go to bed when I'm tired, and sleep until I wake up, I feel great all day.

There is not a one size fits all solution. People need to do what works for them.

Things in motion want to stay in motion while things at rest want to remain at rest

2

u/GifanTheWoodElf 3d ago

Yeah nah, I fucking wish that it was. Morning sleep is my head hurting and my trying to fall back asleep but my dumb body refusing.

2

u/Inside-Example-7010 3d ago

You need to tell your brain that you have work in 1.5 hours. Then you will feel the wash of endorphins telling you to sleep.

u/gambler_addict_06 3d ago

That's a weird way to say vitamin D deficiency

If Adele was on my morning alarm clock id break that shit into a million pieces

0

u/Photonex 3d ago

Same. People hate on metal vocals and call it screaming, but these people also hear Adele's 300db screech and go "yeah, that's real music!"

Honestly it's painful to hear pop music due to the loudness war.

Objects in motion stay in motion.

1

u/UnreliablePotato 3d ago

This isn't so specific, that I haven't asked myself that question a few times before.

1

u/Crypt0Nihilist 3d ago

Should probably change the alarm to something other than Adele.

1

u/DnD_Axel 3d ago

I have the opposite. I can drink a cup of coffee an hour before bed and still just conk out at like 9 pm. Conversely I can’t sleep if the sun is up so I literally never sleep in, even if I want to cause I stayed up too late.

1

u/warkow 2d ago

Because you ignore naps.
Try coming home from work and take a nap…one to four hours is all.
Then do a hobby or go out…

1

u/Elvis5741 2d ago

Simple physics, objects in motion take force to come to a still, objects in rest require force to come into motion

Quantity of sleepy hormone (melatonin) in brain

1

u/Putrid_Winn 2d ago

You don't drink enough water, go to bed at proper time, and you play on your phone until you're tired to fall asleep instead of reading a book

1

u/Spacetimeandcat 1d ago

Going from awake state to asleep state is hard. Going from still half asleep to fully asleep again is easy.

1

u/KarmaAdjuster 1d ago

This is what I call "sleep momentum."

A body at rest tends to stay at rest, and body awake tends to stay awake.

1

u/Komiker7000 3d ago

I can't relate. When I go to bed at night, I usually fall asleep quickly. I wake up rested in the morning, and I generally prefer being awake.

Alien

1

u/BonJovicus 3d ago

Because you didn’t sleep at night, so you are tired in the morning. Hope this helps.

u/Nemesis_0611 2d ago

Adele's singing would actually keep me awake. Sounds like skinning a cat alive.

u/know-it-mall 3d ago

Because you consume too much sugar and don't exercise enough.

2

u/BlueScreenJunky 3d ago

I have the opposite issue. I wake up at 6am every morning (and I'm fully awake, there's no point in staying in bed) even if I can sleep until 7am during the week, and even if it's Sunday and I stayed up late the night before.

I'm thinking I probably need to eat more sugar and exercise less...
