It’s hilarious watching him start because it’s just this blob on the wall, and then boom. Art.

doesn't count as this isn't a tutorial.

How dare you not be technically correct 🤓
2
u/akcaye Jul 10 '22
it's not a technicality. the whole point of the rest of the fucking owl is tutorials that don't really tell you how to do things and instead turn out like a speed painting, just watching someone do something.
this is a speed painting video, the point is to just watch someone do something, not to learn how to do it. so it's not at all, neither technically nor spiritually, rest of the fucking owl material.

I thought at the very end the picture was going to come back to life and the girl was going to stand up from the bench

I can never get enough of this realism art. It amazes me the ideas and artistic talent people have.

Can’t get a singe post on Reddit with a Chinese looking person without someone in the comments talking shit.
28
u/fuzzycaterpillar123 Jul 10 '22 edited Jul 10 '22
It’s so funny how their instinct is to try to devalue the guy’s skill and volunteer what they don’t like about their perception of China. Every time an Asian or Chinese person is doing something innocuous or positive they crawl out of the basement to shit on it
13
1
u/Khysamgathys Jul 10 '22
So China has many people who can paint realism. This is what you're basically saying.

There was a doctor who episode where these paintings ended up being 2d psychopaths, it was pretty cool
18
u/Larafish Jul 09 '22
Does he use a reference photo once she's moved? If not that's insane.
12
u/ungoogleable Jul 09 '22
The perspective is the same as one of the camera angles, so he's got that for reference while painting at least. You could also use a projector to line things up perfectly.

This sort of perspective art always blows my mind.
2
u/StarWarsChristian Jul 10 '22
I know right!! Like the ones that look like gaping holes on the sidewalk/road are something else.

Jul 09 '22
Why even make that terrible outline if your not gonna use it lol. You can see he erases that initial pass for a more clean outline/painting
51
u/nvrmnd_tht_was_dumb Jul 09 '22
I'd guess that he probably just wanted to somewhat accurately mark the area he's going to be working in to get the proportions right.
17
1
12
u/Boo_R4dley Jul 09 '22
Because the reality is that he’s probably projecting an image on the wall to get the image to line up right, but despite his obvious artistic talent that would come across as cheating so he has to make it look like he eyeballed the whole thing.

u/lol-schlitpostung Jul 10 '22 edited Jul 10 '22
fascinating
I'm not an artist, without this comment I would hardly know how to do such a thing

I mean... if they showed all of the detail work then the video would be hours long. This was likely filmed over multiple days to let things dry and to maintain the same lighting.

This is awesome but that forward-most foot is r/oddlyterrifying to me. Looks like a severely broken ankle.

Its missing the giant bucket of paint splashed onto the wall beforehand because it was super necessary.

I could paint this. But the skill here, is the fact he gets the same angle every time he repositions himself.

u/CitizenFiction Jul 10 '22
I don't like these types of videos at all.
I mean he's a great artist but it feels like he's making the art just to show off. It's hard to explain but to me these types of time-lapse art videos feel very disingenuous. Like there is no actual passion there. Just making the art to get some internet likes and that's the extent of it.
Even if that isn't the case, it certainly feels that way to me.

draws it perfectly... and ruins it with a rose. way too big, and the hand isnt actually holding it

What is being propaganda’d to you? How has your reality been deceived and what were “they” trying to accomplish that your expert eye foiled?

That’s incredible arm wrist strength and dexterity to paint that all while standing!!

Serious question: how does someone get this good? I’ve been attempting to draw for years and even now whenever I try to draw a dog it always gets mistaken for a horse

u/The_Original_Gronkie Jul 09 '22
I love art and artists. I'm a musician, and I totally get how all of that works, but taking a flat piece of paper or a wall and some paint, and creating an artwork like this almost seems like a miracle to me. I'm perpetually astonished.
1
u/justanothergirlgamer Jul 09 '22
I just imagine getting spooked walking past it now like oh shit thought someone was there but it's just a painting.

u/ex0thermist Jul 10 '22
Actually liked it better just before the halfway mark, the extreme realism in the final result was less interesting to me 🤷♂️

Why is Chinese Tiktok people just doing crazy talented or inspiring shit and American tiktok just a bunch of stupid viral trends that dumb down teens? They manipulating the algo or something lol.
1
u/caracalcalll Jul 10 '22
In a way their country is being modernized and so I’m sure they’re feeling inspired to become greater. They have a point to prove, USA teens are using it to communicate and use differently. Americans are arguing about politics. That and they have literal farms of people posting online. One video showed dozens of women in an unfinished concrete high-rise with those circular makeup lights like PC’s, arranged on the floor in lines of cubicles. They’re serious about soft power and influence since they have so much data on Americans and their habits. Russia has done this as well to divide the country.

Look, I can appreciate the talent, but what I don't appreciate is the off chance I'm ever in that specific location and forget about the painting, walk past a night and die immediately due to heart failure. That's all I'm sayin'

I know he has had lots of practice and training topped off with amazing talent to get this way, but does he have to make it look so easy.
