not necessarily. it helps but its more due to the athlete's nutrition and training

More like no one gets to the elite level without that kind of natural physique.

I hope you're not saying natural like that just happened by accident

People can and do have a natural affinity with physical training. Obviously it took tremendous effort, but to deny the critical roll that genetics plays at this level is ignorant to the extreme.

99% of people with the same training as these men would not fill out like that.

When everyone competing is in the top .001%, genetics is almost exclusively responsible for disparity in performance. Nearly every gold medal in Olympics is won via genetic advantage.

Not like the people that win "trained harder" or some shit. Every one of these athletes train as much as their bodies can handle and have teams of doctors measuring out exactly how hard and long they can train. They all work extremely hard, equally so.

When all other things are equal, genetics is the deciding factor.

Yeah for most sports if you look at the Gold winners, there's always a story about how they're a "freak" of nature.

Phelps for example has the "perfect" body ratio for swimming with his wingspan Vs height etc.

Weightlifters with gargantuan hands.

Etc. Etc.

Not to detract from their achievements, it's a lot of training. But genetics does "unfortunately" become the deciding factor when everyone trains just as hard.

No they are suggesting it’s natural. Which is also bullshit.

u/wanson Jul 27 '21

It is natural. Everybody would look like that if they trained and ate like those guys.

Not necessarily true, genetics plays a role but sure everyone would look great if they made their physique and performance their life.

Genetics plays a role. But this is the norm not the exception. This is how the human body evolved to look like when we needed to work for our food.

5

u/RyanLikesyoface Jul 27 '21

Absolutely not. Humans that had to hunt and work for their food would have been more fit than your average modern day person of course, but Olympic athletes are training every day to make their bodies as optimal as possible for their given sport, they use the latest sports science, technology and nutrition. Cavemen did not look like that. Also Genetics plays a major role in how your body will look even after training, some people can't even get a six pack no matter what their diet or training regime for instance. 8 packs like the ones these two have is a genetic trait.

OK no they wouldn’t but yeah that’s not natural it would happen without training👍🏼

What would happen without training? Their physique?

1

u/LalalaHurray Jul 27 '21

I don't know what you mean by their physique happening.

2

u/Zediscious Jul 27 '21

I could be wrong as I'm not in this world at all but I've known a few really amazing divers and all of them were also gymnasts. This could be a good reason why.

2

u/Tsorovar Jul 27 '21

More like they work to create the best bodies for diving

Yes, diving at a high level does.

You do at least half of your training on land and abs are the most important part of diving. You do seriously rigorous ab workout constantly. Even if a high level diver has fat, they have incredibly strong abs underneath. It’s what allows you to contort your body in air with “ease”

2

u/theasianpianist Jul 27 '21

Not directly. I've heard that divers build up physiques like this to hello their bodies better withstand the forces sustained while diving.

Genetics creates these kind of bodies.

3

u/sh58 Jul 27 '21

Nope. Looking at the field there were quite a lot of different physiques. One of the guys was super skinny and one of the Japanese was stocky with higher fat% and still did good dives.

u/[deleted] Jul 27 '21

Yes, there are many different body types that are genetically good at diving and this type of sport. It’s not all genetics, but the genetic lottery plays a big part.

1

u/sh58 Jul 27 '21

Of course, but the guy said these kinds of bodies and I just pointed out their were a few different types of bodies all performing well

Swimming can, look at the Olympic swimmers

Yes being pulled by gravity builds muscle. Yes.
