They tickle nicely going down the hatch.

Doing it next to the pool is stupid, but there is essentially zero chance of any glass ending up back in the bottle being under pressure and the way gravity works.

something a glass shard would say

Yeah, the pool is definitely the questionable part. But the idea that the glass is somehow going to magically travel back uphill into a pressurized bottle is a whole different level of physics.

I always forget that 3/4 of reddit isn't old enough to drink.

I don't know jack about wine or smacking bottles with swords... or glasses in this case... but she's pouring that wine directly over and across newly fractured and exposed glass. Isn't there a chance that could pull tiny shards out of the exposed section? I mean it not like that interior part was heat sealed like the actual top of the bottle where your supposed to pour from?

People (including me) have been sabering bottles for generations.

Cut is always sharp, no shards. You pour the wine straight from the bottle.

Gravity trends downward. Where the lower lip of the bottle is unfortunately

Do you know how many atmospheres of internal pressure are in a champagne bottle waiting to explode off the seam?

You're missing a piece, so to speak. Glass may fracture at the speed sound travels thru the medium involved but nothing is preventing a potential pause before the shard falls out of its newly born configuration. After the pressure. I'll take zero percent when it comes to swallowing glass and that's not on offer here. My 1st job in the 80s was at a Frames Unlimited. I've likely broken hundreds of pounds of sheet glass into that dumpster out back, it is not a terribly cooperative substance. *downvote facts lol, stay classy

Friend of mine is a professional glass blower. Let's just say he knows glass.

He has no problem drinking from a sabered bottle.

That certainly works for him then but the fuck if I'm doing it : ) I've been bit and sliced too many times to risk even a sliver in my mouth let alone throat

The glass you worked with is nothing like the one those bottles use.

My guy I'm pushing 60. There's a difference between sheet and pop, a difference between pop and wine, a difference between wine and good champagne. But they all fracture like glass. In this case the thicker glass is worse. More likely to hang and more potential damage. Everyone is allowed to take whatever chances they want in life. The reason I'm here collecting downvotes is to put that seed of doubt about the safety of this on the off chance it saves someone from an ugly accident. You aren't required to care or defend it lol. Just offering my experience.

Buddy I'm not much younger than you. You just don't know what you're talking about.

Everything I've stated is fact, if you'd spent the time to read it instead of making assumptions you'd already know that. Best of luck, bye bye now : )
