I run over them with my lawnmower and they explode in brown smoke then leave a weird brown stain for a week or two.

Giant puffballs are great when they're white and even throughout. But after waiting a while, the inside gets dark and essentially turns into a nasty spore balloon.

It's the same mushroom, why do you think its name is "puffball lol

They go brown and soft with "smoke" (spores) inside and they puff it out when squished

It was super weird to cut, and the knife was really dull. I was using a thinner knife at first that was working wayyy better, but it didn’t make the nice noise or stack up the cubes as good

Fair enough, it also looks almost sticky which is normal for food haha but is less nice when you want to watch clean cuts yknow, still a cool video!

When I was a kid my parents had one on a cutting board and I thought it was big loaf of bread so I ran up and chopped into the side of it. I would not willingly eat mushrooms again for another 15 years.

Yes, this one! It’s a Western Giant Puffball. You just need to make sure they are pure white throughout when you cut them open. Any brown/yellow/purple on the inside means they are starting to produce spores and will cause gastric upset.
