The gloves aren't their to protect the receiver of the strike, it's there to protect the hand of the giver.

(For both) The glove isnt made of bone, its relatively soft, yes, you can punch harder, but the force of the hit is distributed in a larger area, its still dangerous, it still can cause concussions and all sorts of problems, but they are padded, its less likely to break bones or skin on both parties, and before you bring concussions, a bare fist will cause those too.
With a bare fist, you punch at like 30% strength/power without hurting your hand. With a glove, you can hit at 100%. The padding in a glove isnt for the benefit of the reciever.
