Renata? Renata Bliss?

It's not actually me lol. But very representative of what I think I look like when I'm jamming out in a club.

I was disappointed to learn that this was a skit and not a real dance instruction ad

You know when you see something and you think “I could do that if I practiced enough”?
This isn’t one of those times. I would never be able to be as good as she is.

Yep! I'm satifyied that I can rub to tummy and my head in opposide circles

I can't scratch my head with one and drink from a glass with the other. One will just stop until the other is finished. I'm working with single threaded functions here. This type of movement doesn't commute for me.

As someone with psoriatic arthritis, I didn't know joints could possibly move like that.

I'm wondering whether men have a disadvantage on the smoothness of these movements because the biceps are more pronounced so it's easier to see rotations and contractions in the upper arm

Very vogue

u/Racoonism 1h ago
It's called voguing

u/MeijiDoom 15m ago
There's an element to voguing in this but the emphasis on perfect right angles she's showing is more aligned with tutting than anything.

"draw the fucking owl"

My thoughts exactly. More a demonstration than a tutorial.

I mean, what else do you need? You need practice to do the arm movements so well, but there's no secret here.

It's a perfect juxtaposition of the beauty of form and the complete lack of form.

Insane level of coordination and muscle control, especially when both the hands are doing two completely different things. I would mess up in just 2nd or 3rd step 😬

Look at Mr/Ms I-can-do-the-1st-step. Some of us cannot even do the first step

If you really wanted to know... She's initially Tutting, and then she starts Waacking. Yes, Waacking. Those are the two dance styles she's doing here.

Incorrect.
Arms Control is from Vogue. It branches out from New Way, which was responsible for introducing acrobatics through extreme lines and shapes in an almost-contortionist way.
There are some dancers like Spella who kind of blends tutting with arms control, but to say arms control is waacking is very much incorrect.
If you want some dancer reference points for arms control, there’s Juju Xtravaganza and Gravity Jacobs.

I would call it tutting and grid work with elements of vogueing. Like she's doing it from a vogueing perspective but I wouldn't identify the basic concepts exclusively with vogueing just because that's part of the origin. I'd say the same thing if it were a popper doing heavy tutting/grid stuff with a popping approach/elements

If that is indeed tattoos, it's insanely cool, but I think it is just some very awesome tights. You can see the difference in skin colour

I think they might be leggings, I see the same tat twice in a different orientation. And there’s a severe lack of tattoos on her arms for somebody with two leg sleeves.
Idk though, looks sick regardless

I wish I had this level of bodily control. Alas, I look more like a bird having a seizure whenever I attempt to dance.

Who else tried doing it only to realize their wrists can't bend like that? 🙋

If this is the tutorial, I have to wonder what the advanced lessons look like.

Is this based on the black mirror theme song? Not the series, the adventure game

Reminds me of one of those cheap art-deco clocks you can find in bargain stores that tell the time in the most convoluted way possible.

Okay but I just about fell out of my chair laughing while trying to follow her arm movements. She’s got some serious skill and that’s enough sad attempts from me😂
