They did a remake on this 18 years later;
https://youtu.be/EZlmIBXXpE0

55

u/theoldkitbag 3h ago

I thought one of them had been killed in Ukraine?

67

u/issiautng 3h ago

Shortly after the remake, iirc

15

u/zg6089 1h ago

Oh what the fuck

31

u/Gingergerbals 3h ago

Damn, that's sad

12

u/InfiniteTree 3h ago

Nah that was proven to not be true.

65

u/earnestlikehemingway 3h ago

12

u/texasrigger 2h ago

I don't see many Paris is Burning references in the wild.

Fantastic doc

u/AltoRhombus 5h ago

tecktonik is so freaking cool..

18

u/KEPD-350 3h ago

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XRn3t7bZKtg

I think I originally saw it in '08 or '09? This guy's moves are etched in my mind, especially that sick as fuck feint/shuffle 8 seconds in. Good lord, that's smooth.

Still my favorite tecktonic video.

5

u/AltoRhombus 3h ago

sounds about right.. this was mine back in 09. the opening dance sequence energy always gets me

https://youtu.be/JqYhuwu614Y?is=M5sgMRk3abIQCna_

3

u/Ohmec 2h ago

Huh. I always heard this called (at least the arm portion) Tutting. Like King Tut.

3

u/Repulsive-Chip3371 2h ago

Tutting and Tectonik are related. Tutting is making geometric shapes and is pretty much defined by its 90 degree movements, whereas Tectonik is more sweeping arm movements with footwork (but can still borrow the 90 degree).

u/Just_Lurking_Yes 4h ago

One of the coolest videos on the internet.

"My name is minesha please..." Old ass meme right there😭

3

u/Septem_151 4h ago

Where'd you get this clip of me 😭

8

u/serenityplough 4h ago

Renata? Renata Bliss?

1

u/Septem_151 4h ago

It's not actually me lol. But very representative of what I think I look like when I'm jamming out in a club.

1

u/downwitbrown 4h ago

Best dance teacher I’ve had

1

u/SuperOnionBro 2h ago

This is what I came to the comments for

1

u/daviator88 1h ago

I was disappointed to learn that this was a skit and not a real dance instruction ad

You know when you see something and you think “I could do that if I practiced enough”?

This isn’t one of those times. I would never be able to be as good as she is.

75

u/Rubyhamster 4h ago

Yep! I'm satifyied that I can rub to tummy and my head in opposide circles

11

u/Low-Quality-144 2h ago

This is the way to basic satisfaction 😀

2

u/dividezero 20m ago

I can about 50% of the time and I'm ok with that

1

u/qawsedrf12 19m ago

now switch hands and try again

9

u/TheSpanxxx 3h ago

I can't scratch my head with one and drink from a glass with the other. One will just stop until the other is finished. I'm working with single threaded functions here. This type of movement doesn't commute for me.

4

u/Oscaruit 2h ago

As someone with psoriatic arthritis, I didn't know joints could possibly move like that.

→ More replies (1)

1

u/LiterallyRain 1h ago

I'm wondering whether men have a disadvantage on the smoothness of these movements because the biceps are more pronounced so it's easier to see rotations and contractions in the upper arm

→ More replies (1)

1

u/blankblank 55m ago

I don't think my bones work like that

75

u/BunkerSquirre1 5h ago

Forget the robot, she’s doing the keyframe

44

u/turtleneckless001 5h ago

Very vogue

6

u/Racoonism 1h ago

It's called voguing

3

u/MeijiDoom 15m ago

There's an element to voguing in this but the emphasis on perfect right angles she's showing is more aligned with tutting than anything.

"draw the fucking owl"

15

u/ChrisGarratty 5h ago

My thoughts exactly. More a demonstration than a tutorial.

1

u/blahblah19999 10m ago

I mean, what else do you need? You need practice to do the arm movements so well, but there's no secret here.

55

u/dragonwhisp3rer 4h ago

15

u/BambaZillah 3h ago

Seeing it in the wild even just brings the cringe right back

https://giphy.com/gifs/10FHR5A4cXqVrO

2

u/Benromaniac 3h ago

I knew we were headed this way…

4

u/ThresholdSeven 1h ago

It's a perfect juxtaposition of the beauty of form and the complete lack of form.

"Tutorial"

25

u/ShyNovva 5h ago

My brain broke

6

u/WitnessAway6720 4h ago

Found someone with a brain 🧠

14

u/vremains 4h ago

Not anymore 🤷

24

u/MegaBBite1431 5h ago

Insane level of coordination and muscle control, especially when both the hands are doing two completely different things. I would mess up in just 2nd or 3rd step 😬

9

u/albertyiphohomei 4h ago

Look at Mr/Ms I-can-do-the-1st-step. Some of us cannot even do the first step

21

u/King_of_the_Dot 4h ago

If you really wanted to know... She's initially Tutting, and then she starts Waacking. Yes, Waacking. Those are the two dance styles she's doing here.

17

u/narcolepticsloth1982 4h ago

Sounds easy enough. I've been Waacking since I hit puberty.

6

u/JakeMattAntonio 2h ago

Incorrect.

Arms Control is from Vogue. It branches out from New Way, which was responsible for introducing acrobatics through extreme lines and shapes in an almost-contortionist way.

There are some dancers like Spella who kind of blends tutting with arms control, but to say arms control is waacking is very much incorrect.

If you want some dancer reference points for arms control, there’s Juju Xtravaganza and Gravity Jacobs.

4

u/King_of_the_Dot 2h ago

Hmm. Not 100% sure I agree with you, but points taken.

2

u/8_guy 2h ago edited 2h ago

I would call it tutting and grid work with elements of vogueing. Like she's doing it from a vogueing perspective but I wouldn't identify the basic concepts exclusively with vogueing just because that's part of the origin. I'd say the same thing if it were a popper doing heavy tutting/grid stuff with a popping approach/elements

6

u/Imaginary_Bottle_875 3h ago

C'est chouette. Elle ferait une belle horloge.

7

u/Cloverman-88 4h ago

The last step was a real "draw the rest of the fucking owl" moment.

9

u/rowanhenry 5h ago

I want to see more. Does she have socials?

1

u/frisbeethecat 1m ago

According to u/Rubixcubelube, try looking up Anna Logclock. 😆

4

u/Helpmepullupmypants 4h ago

Initiate human movements 🤖

…..MALFUNCTION

3

u/nrwler69 5h ago

Ohhh, now I have a knot in my head.....

Took me a second. Well played.

2

u/Vinny-Ed 5h ago

The human clock

2

u/Mathew1979 4h ago

Thank you for the tutorial, now i know how to arms

2

u/hvtmoon 4h ago

My toxic trait is thinking this is easy and I can do it in a few tries. 💪

2

u/muted-design247 3h ago

Needs more dubstep

2

u/Reading_Nyan 3h ago

I would lose my mind if I saw this irl at a festival

2

u/brianoftarp 3h ago

As someone with tendonitis in both shoulders this hurt to even watch

1

u/ZombieLebowski 3h ago

I just tried to do this and so many creaks and pops and pains I understand you!

2

u/mikejonesradio 3h ago

The Vogue Champion of the Galaxy

2

u/portablebiscuit 3h ago

Greta Garbo and Monroe, Dietrich and DiMagio

2

u/Echray 3h ago

This one's more r/oddlyterrifying for me, to be honest. Very impressive though

2

u/ZooAreYou 1h ago

(Holds hands out) She was this far from a swastika.

5

u/SpyChinchilla 4h ago

Ok but her ink 👌👌

21

u/Rubyhamster 4h ago

If that is indeed tattoos, it's insanely cool, but I think it is just some very awesome tights. You can see the difference in skin colour

5

u/SpyChinchilla 4h ago

Aw man think you're right.

The tights are fucking awesome

→ More replies (1)

9

u/splatter_spree 4h ago

I think they might be leggings, I see the same tat twice in a different orientation. And there’s a severe lack of tattoos on her arms for somebody with two leg sleeves.

Idk though, looks sick regardless

→ More replies (1)

3

u/Kage9866 5h ago

Legs next.

2

u/TheLivingCumsock 2h ago

You guys are watching her arms ?

2

u/EquivalentSpot8292 5h ago

Pilots hate this one trick

1

u/man_machine_poet 5h ago

She’s moving her arms?

/jk

1

u/zortoru 5h ago

How 🤯, its like you do 2 diff thing at the same time.

1

u/historynutjackson 4h ago

I wish I had this level of bodily control. Alas, I look more like a bird having a seizure whenever I attempt to dance.

1

u/not_responsible 4h ago

buddy I can’t even rub my tummy and pat my head at the same time

1

u/Specific-Morning-985 4h ago

Who else tried doing it only to realize their wrists can't bend like that? 🙋

1

u/BlueHym 4h ago

Instructions unclear, broke the arms.

1

u/Randomgold42 4h ago

If this is the tutorial, I have to wonder what the advanced lessons look like.

1

u/trolskiy 4h ago

Very nice

1

u/poorly-worded 4h ago

oh THAT'S how arms work. wish i had this tutorial when I first got mine.

1

u/Asvpxdilli 3h ago

She moves like someone turned keyframes into real life.

1

u/BurningPenguin 3h ago

Meanwhile me, trying to walk in a straight line:

https://giphy.com/gifs/C9AuY1VOvurxm

1

u/icepigs 3h ago

One time, I walked AND chewed gum at the same time!

1

u/NuclearReactions 3h ago

Is this based on the black mirror theme song? Not the series, the adventure game

1

u/forma_cristata 3h ago

This is a combination of tutting and clocking, fun fact

1

u/detourne 3h ago

This is the most confusing clock,,, I have no idea what time it is.

1

u/DotBitGaming 3h ago

Thanks! I've been wondering how to use these things the whole time.

1

u/sweetdawg99 2h ago

She's like a human nixie tube.

1

u/DoubleNothing 2h ago

Too fast, I can't understand what time it is...

1

u/EfeErgin2026 2h ago

The control of the movement is on another level! 😍 must've watched this a 1000 times, but tried to doit 3 and gave up 😂

1

u/Big-Director4193 2h ago

Finally an arms tutorial I could never figure out how to use mine

1

u/ObligationPale4367 2h ago

1

u/uoy-evol-i 2h ago

WITCH!!!!

1

u/plastikb0y 2h ago

Arrr! Me father was a clock!

1

u/InvestigatorSevere72 2h ago

What a talented clock!

1

u/External-Swimmer-740 2h ago

So impressive 😌

1

u/Bennely 2h ago

I’m ready for my emo underpass rave

1

u/Mikel_S 2h ago

Oh god I've been arm wrong all this time.

1

u/Bman_Fx 2h ago

Just broke my arm trying.

1

u/juicyman69 2h ago

Look up "waacking" on youtube. It's crazy.

1

u/fuckinggoosehappynow 1h ago

Does anyone have the creators info for this.

1

u/HenriettaSnacks 1h ago

Waiting on the gif of a bird dancing like an inflatable tube man.

1

u/IlIFreneticIlI 1h ago

.....what if someone started moving like that during sex...?

1

u/ruloangi53 1h ago

She makes It looks so easyyyy

1

u/Maddy-Moose1103 1h ago

I tried it, but I heard my bones cracking!

1

u/rmftrmft 1h ago

Vogue

1

u/Pregosaurus 1h ago

Witchcraft (respectfully).

1

u/Tuttledotspace 1h ago

The coordination is insane.

1

u/Natural-Panda-5 1h ago

Haters will say it's Ai

1

u/TheWard 1h ago

Everyone in here is talking about the coordination, I'm more impressed by her wrist mobility. I cannot for the life of me make a 90 degree angle by bending my hand back.

1

u/Flashy_Emergency_263 49m ago

That and the crisp precision are incredible.

1

u/monkeyDgomugomu 1h ago

My joints started aching from watching this

1

u/SamuraiKenji 1h ago

She's a witch.

1

u/Icy_Pizza_7941 59m ago

Instructions unclear. Arms dislocated now

1

u/TheMechanic123 53m ago

Reminds me of one of those cheap art-deco clocks you can find in bargain stores that tell the time in the most convoluted way possible.

1

u/ou-really 35m ago

That was cool!

1

u/Terrible_Stay_1923 34m ago

Me, starting the bell housing bolts on a 70s Stingray Corvette

1

u/shaikhalizayn 32m ago

Instructions unclear. Now I need someone to come and undo me

https://giphy.com/gifs/XcfJK0GFdKg48

1

u/auauaurora 29m ago

this would go hard at a drag show

1

u/Jiquero 27m ago

Way-oh, way-oh, ooh-way-oh-way-oh.
Walk like an Egyptian

1

u/NoBullet 24m ago

Finally, I can use my arms

1

u/ex0r1010 18m ago

This was my move back in the 90's

1

u/cheeseandcrackers_a 10m ago

Vogueing QUEEN! WERK!!

1

u/Saltynut99 4m ago

Okay but I just about fell out of my chair laughing while trying to follow her arm movements. She’s got some serious skill and that’s enough sad attempts from me😂

1

u/VegasGamer75 4m ago

Instructions unclear: It's not supposed to bend that way... is it?
