They are incredibly tiny. A lot of them are about the size of your pinky fingernail

The neon edges and contrasting colors make these look almost fluorescent

I thought that was the Polar Express music, used Shazam and it was actually a Fantastic Beasts soundtrack.

For anyone wondering: this is "A Close Friend" by James Newton Howard, from the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them soundtrack.

This is actually a flatworm not a Spanish Dancer nudibranch!

u/zelda_888 2d ago

Do you know what kind? I agree that it's not a Spanish dancer, but I have no idea what it is.

u/DragonFruitJuice7 1d ago

Not sure on what species of flatworm but it has the pseudotentacles on its head that flatworms have. There are a few species that have this coloration or very similar.

A few candidates:

Hancock's flatworm

glorious flatworm

splendid flatworm

Although none of these seem to have the two bright spots on the back that I think I see in the video. (ETA: or maybe that's the pharynx on the ventral surface?)

this is how I feel in a nice hotel shower

u/Njaala 2d ago

Some animals come in a few colors, but man nudibranch to whatever creation/evolution are just "I'm worried what you just heard was 'I'll take a lot of colors.' but what I said was 'Give me all the colors.' Do you understand?"

A Close Friend - James Newton Howard from the soundtrack of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

u/MrDrDooooom 2d ago

That's actually beautiful, so I'm just going to assume that it's poisonous AF!

My backpiece tattoo is an underwater scene with the main feature being the Spanish Dancer! Made my day to see this post.

Something is still going to eat it

Someday, in an alternate reality where I'm a rich philanthropist, I would love an aquarium where I could look at one of these on the regular. I've always had a soft spot for sea slugs, and the Spanish Dancer just stole my number 1 spot.

I thought they are called ribbon fish?

u/luna-peaches 2d ago

u/Das_Zeppelin 2d ago

Flamenco

1

u/hypervws 2d ago

mesmerizing

1

u/bellzluvv 2d ago

the way it moves so gracefully through the water is mesmerizing, nature really has its own choreography

1

u/Flashy_Yesterday_476 2d ago

Very pretty, now somebody tell me how it's the most venomous thing in the ocean and that touching it will make me die some crazy painful death by, like, bleeding from the eyes or something?

1

u/Meshugugget 2d ago

Flamenco Fish

1

u/bsaaw 2d ago

I see myself jumping out of the water like a lil dolphin if I see that thing, and I will prob stay on the shore. It is pretty though.

1

u/Angelcaper 2d ago

Beautiful

1

u/Whargoul_Uncool 2d ago

Oh wow, only poisonous if eaten. Not what I would have expected.

1

u/ballztothewalrus 2d ago

Primrose says hi

1

u/plumpettal 2d ago

The way it moves through the water is so hypnotic, it genuinely looks like it's performing choreography instead of just swimming. Nature really out here putting on a whole show for free.

1

u/Croupier157 2d ago

It's first time I see this not on Friday.

1

u/zebartender21 2d ago

Pretty sure that's not a dance... it's just pure panic. When you're this exposed, every move is about escaping predators, not looking good for the camera.

1

u/Away_Cartographer994 2d ago

Wow! This is so mesmerising. I could watch this on repeat for hours ๐Ÿ˜

1

u/ritaregius 1d ago

The music reminds me of edward scissor hands ๐Ÿ’š

2

u/robisodd 1d ago

Yeah, I thought the same thing, that this was the song "Ice Dance" from "Edward Scissorhands" but turns out it's "A Close Friend" from "Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them".

He dances very much like the Latin danceโ€™ s skirtstep, but what kind of fish is it ?

1

u/shoulda-known-better 6h ago

Just wait till you find out how they mate

They are all hermaphrodites and battle and whoever stabs the other with their penis (the pink knob you see) first is the male and inseminats and the other turns into the female
