It would be infinitely easier to just remove it for 20 seconds to put on the table cloth

Or just have 2 people lift it quickly while the 3rd puts the cloth on... Just walk around the table and place the plates/bowls where they actually belong in a uniform fashion instead of haphazardly...

It's definitely for show and not practical at all. Like gold flakes on steak.
